This was just pure fun and the perfect story to introduce someone to the world of Godzilla with. Three unique girls spend the summer at a sports camp which was not what what they were promised and a chance meeting with Minilla will change their summer forever. I really hope we get another story featuring the characters that expands their corner even more, I'll be there 100% for it.
Special Thanks to IDW Publishing and Netgalley for the digital ARC. This was given to me for an honest review.
This graphic novel is an absolute treat with stunning artwork and a captivating storyline that brims with humor, heart, and important life lessons.
What sets this graphic novel apart is its emphasis on positive messages such as acceptance, representation, and environmental stewardship. Through the characters’ adventures, readers are reminded of the importance of embracing diversity, standing up for what’s right, and taking better care of the planet we call home.
Overall, “Godzilla Monster Island Summer Camp” is a delightful read that balances fun and heart in equal measure. Whether you’re a fan of Godzilla movies or simply enjoy a good coming-of-age story, this graphic novel is sure to leave you smiling long after you’ve turned the final page.
This was the CUTEST graphic novel! The story follows Zelda, a teen at summer camp, who stumbles into "Monster Island" and meets Minizilla (mini Godzilla). Zelda teams up with her fellow campers and their new friend Minizilla to defeat a nefarious scheme at camp.
The illustrations absolutely made this book! I have not read/watched much from the Godzilla franchise, but these monsters were so cute and definitely made me want to dive in deeper. Middle Grade and YA readers will LOVE this one!
Thanks to NetGalley, Rosie Knight, and IDW Publishing for the chance to review this advance copy!
mini godzilla fights capitalism :)
very pretty color palette and style. and the kind of scooby doo esque hi-jinx i loved as a kid.
Loved the monsters, our 3 main characters, and the effortless diversity/inclusivity of identities! I'm giving a 3 star review because I wish there was a bit more depth to certain parts of the story.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy for an honest review
I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend and I can’t wait to buy a copy for myself 🙂
Rating 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp was such a fun read from beginning to end. We follow Zelda to summer camp, but the counselors are weirdly aggressive and something seems off. With the help of her new summer camp friends and one unexpected friend, they uncover a secret. The illustrations are so colorful and detailed, and I loved the art style.
Highly recommend for fans of graphic novels!
I received an ARC from IDW Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
How do I (admittedly a whole ass adult) go to Monster Island Summer Camp because I’m sooooo in!
This book is full of diverse and loveable characters that you won’t want to leave.
Oliver Ono has illustrated such a gorgeous comic but the monsters especially are so cute. Please check out this book!!
Thank you, NetGalley and IDW Publishing for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
HIS HIDING LOOK!!!!! OH MY GOSH SO CUTE! I am all for creating Kaiju/Godzilla content for younger audiences and this is a good fit. It's reminiscent of the old Pokémon cartoons and is full of fun characters.
Also, my Queen and love showing up was just the best. I want to go to this camp so badly...well the camp at the end not the start lol.
