Talk about twists and turns aplenty! This book had me racing through and turning the page to find out what happened.
I really enjoyed the new Orleans setting and found the storyline pretty fast paced. The ending was satisfying if not a little open ended. At just under 300 pages it’s a quick, entertaining thriller.
Many thanks to Bookouture audio for the ALC. The audio narration by Stephanie Cannon was highly entertaining and easy to listen to.
2.5 stars
I don't have much to say about this book other than that I was utterly disappointed by it. The book description held so much promise and I was so excited to start reading it, but alas, in the end it just wasn't for me.
I listened to it on audio and the one positive thing I can say is that the narrator is good. However, because of all the overdramatic reactions of a very angsty main character, the constant dramatization started to grate on my nerves. In short, there was just way too much drama and angst for my liking.
Most of the plot, even if I'd suspended disbelief, is ridiculous and hard to fathom. Though in parts the story is fast-paced, there were more parts that dragged on and bored me to tears. Combine that with a very simplistic writing style and mediocre prose, lots of telling and very little showing, the only saving grace that got me to the end of this audiobook was the good narration by Stephanie Cannon.
If you enjoyed The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden, you will most certainly enjoy My Perfect Husband. I'll leave it at that.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to listen to an eARC of this book.
I was fully expecting a quick, entertaining read with a twist that might or might not be predictable, but the twists were shocking and just kept coming! To say this book exceeding expectations is an understatement. It was really the ending that turned this one into a memorable read, and I cannot recommend it enough.
Had me guessig until the very end. Quite enjoyable.
Thank you to NetGalley aan the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
OMG! I loved this book the twist and turn I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I got the Audiobook and 10/10 recommend!!! I love forward to reading more from this author as this was my first one and I'm hooked!
Thank you for the ARC. I was really looking forward to reading this book but it was archived before I got a chance, almost immediately after I received it. I plan to download it elsewhere and return for my review
Well what a rollercoaster this was. Such a good book. I listed to this on audio and I loved it. The narration was great, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this.
I didn’t see the ending coming, this was a great - fast paced psychological thriller. I was gripped from the beginning and was excited everything I was listening.
Brilliant and a totally engrossing story!
It had been a while since I last delved into the pages of one of Georgina Cross's novels, and I must say, this one was truly worth the read. While the initial plot seemed like a familiar set-up, the way the story twisted and turned was nothing short of remarkable.
The narrative begins by introducing Lauren and Alex, who share a pivotal connection - both have experienced the pain of a missing sibling. Following years of marriage and tireless efforts to find their lost loved one, a sudden call unravels the long-buried secrets from the night Lauren's sister disappeared. As Lauren digs deeper into the newly surfaced information, she begins to harbor growing suspicions about her own husband. However, just when you think you have it all figured out, the author flips the script, blurring the lines between hero and villain.
What initially appeared to be a straightforward novel transforms into an enthralling mystery that keeps readers second-guessing themselves at every turn. I'm always captivated by stories that not only make me think but also take me by surprise, and this novel certainly exceeded my expectations.
I want to extend my sincere appreciation to NetGalley for the opportunity to delve into an advanced copy of this novel, as well as to Georgina Cross for crafting such a truly exceptional and gripping thriller.
My Perfect Husband
by Georgina Cross
Narrated by Stephanie Cannon
My Perfect Husband by Georgina Cross is a bit of a slow burn. Lauren's sister Ellie has been missing for years. Lauren's husband Alex has a similar story regarding his brother Clive, who has also been missing for years. In fact, it's just that which brought them together initially. The police find Ellie's body, and Lauren realizes that she died on the day that she went missing all of those years ago. What Ellie has in her pocket, pictures of Alex, Clive, and Ellie all together, sends Lauren spiraling and determined to find out what really happened and what her husband has been hiding.
This story mainly takes place in NOLA, which is such a fun city as a backdrop. The story stumbles along somewhat slowly. It's not bad at all, though I found myself listening at a quicker seep than usual, as there was a lot of Lauren's thoughts, a lot of descriptions, etc. I didn't find it as fast-paced as I typically like. That being said, this is a good story with a pretty unexpected ending.
The narration was well done and I really enjoyed listening. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author for the chance to listen to and review this ARC!
.Ooooh! This book was really good! When her sister has been missing could her husband have something to do with it? Great twist at the end. A great read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an audio ARC of this book.
This was fun! We first meet Lauren and her husband, Alex. We get a glimpse into their perfect relationship and life, until we realize that it might not be as perfect as it seems. HE might not be as perfect as he seems. Could he have killed Lauren’s sister? The truth unravels slowly but surely.
While I didn’t want to stop listening, I wasn’t overly thrilled with the ending. Still a fun read though!
A great listen. Excellent storyline that keeps you interested and guessing right to the end. I often find audiobooks disappointing because the narration is not to my liking but this one is very good.
Georgina Cross is back with another twisty domestic thriller that had us all talking incessantly at The Pulse. Thanks Georgina, for giving Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse the opportunity to read this one prior to release!
Lauren and Alex are happily married. As happily married as two people who have trauma bonded over having siblings who went missing and have never been found can be. Until the day Lauren gets the call that her sister Ellie has been found, unfortunately not alive.
When Lauren heads down to New Orleans to identify and claim the body, she finds a photo on Ellie’s body that indicates her sister knew not only Alex, but also Alex’s missing brother. Now, having her entire life flipped upside down, Lauren tries to discern the truth from lies and get to the bottom of what really happened to her sister and if Alex was involved or not.
Those two paragraphs aren’t even the tip of the iceberg of how twisted this story gets. Through much of the story we have only mounting questions and little to no answers making it compulsively readable until the very end.
I love a New Orleans setting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a book with that setting and thought “ehh, I’ll pass.” On the contrary, I’m far more likely to pick a book up when I see such a great setting that lends to SO much sinister and culturally unique storylines.
I completely understand why people don’t enjoy the marital secret realm of thrillers, but I love it. It’s always a wild ride to examine how two people living in the same house, sharing a life, can also lead such separate lives and withhold so much information from each other. Psychologically, it’s fascinating to read these types of stories.
I would say that this is definitely one of those thrillers that belief needs to be fully suspended to enjoy this one. There are some very “WTF” plot holes that don’t quite add up and the idea that somehow all of the secrets were kept and nothing ever came out, nothing was ever researched is super far-fetched.
My Perfect Husband is available on Kindle Unlimited AND two of Georgina’s previous books have been optioned by Netflix, The Stepdaughter and Nanny Needed, so that’s awesome for her. I have not read either, but I have picked up Nanny Needed to read later this summer.
This is my second book by Georgina Cross and it definitely wont be my last. This one was great from the first page and kept me guessing through out the whole book. This book is told from the POV of Lauren, who just found out her husband may have been involved with her sisters death- 12 years earlier.. I also really enjoyed the dual timelines and how they complimented each other. While I did enjoy the story overall, I wish we got a little more from the ending.
🎧The narration of this book was done very well. I really enjoyed how you were able to feel the emotions of the character through the audiobook.
🌸Definitely check this one out if you love :

Everybody lies. The end is surprising, but mainly because you are led down so many rabbit holes, it's hard to keep up with the latest suspect. When Lauren learns her missing sister, Ellie, is dead and that her husband, Alex, may have some connection to her death, Lauren is devasted. She leaves Alex and agrees to work with the police to get answers about Ellie's death. That seems like the right thing to do until Lauren realizes she is being followed and may be in danger herself. It's hard to know who can be trusted in this thriller, but it's never the one you think it is. In the end, the characters got what (and who) they deserved. Great work, Georgina Cross!
This book was the definition of a page Turner, even using the audiobook. It was listening, and every chance I could get to get to the end of the story to know what happened. It’s a little When you think that you may have married your sister’s murderer, especially when your husband denies having any knowledge of her. The characters themselves all have some secrets and you don’t really like any of them, but you’re drawn to all of them. We just are desperate to know what secrets they are hiding and how well we know them, how well we know each other in the world, that people could be hiding some very big secrets. There are some very big twists at the end that make the book all come together
4/5✨
This story was such a whirl-wind, whew. I loved how chaotic the main character is in this story. If you want a story where you think one person is the "bad guy" only to see it another way in a quick and fun read, this is it!
Thank you Georgina Cross, Bookouture Audio, and Net Galley for a free, advanced audiobook of this title in exchange for my honest review. It is narrated by Stephanie Cannon who also did an amazing job.
This US novel is set in Illinois/Chicago and is filled with deception, secrets and suspicions.
Lauren, married to Alex, has, for 12 long years been seeking to find her missing sister, Ellie. Coincidentally, Alex also has a brother who disappeared around this time - this being one of the factors that have bonded the couple. Imagine Laurens shock and horror when it is revealed that on the discovery of Ellie's body, her possessions include a photo that show Ellie to be with Alex just prior to her death! While I don't won't to give spoilers I will just say this is not the only twist in this superb original story!
The reveal was spectacular and well worth waiting for - as for the ending ....yep pretty gratifying too!
As one would expect from Stephanie Cannon, narration is utterly on point!
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook in exchange for an advance copy.
Twisty and unpredictable until the end!
I’ve read other books from this author and they always keep me at the edge of my seat and engaged. Great writing, fast-paced and an unexpected ending, the perfect mix for a good domestic thriller.
Thank you Suzy Approved Book Tours for this tour invite.
This was a great thriller. I have a huge problem of only reading my favorite authors in the thriller category, but Cross did an amazing job keeping me on my toes. There were so many twists and turns. This is a book I couldn't figure out "who" it was. I would totally recommend this book for any reader wanting a great thriller.
