This book had an interesting plot and while I didn’t love the author’s writing style, it was well-executed…for the most part.
The story was a little too focused on the protagonist. I would’ve liked to hear more from (or about) the book’s other characters.
The ending definitely left something to desired. As the book came to a close, I just wasn’t sure how to feel.
3.6 rounded up to 4.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.
This book was okay, at best. The whole storyline was a bit weird. I found the book boring and had to force myself to finish it. I wasn’t excited to pick it up and keep reading it. Overall, disappointing.
I sped through this book in no time! I loved that the setting was in New Orleans and that the author used such vivid descriptions I felt like I was there. This was a quickly paced and very entertaining popcorn thriller. While being fast paced, there were points where I felt it dragged and was slightly repetitive. I would've liked to have heard more from the husband's perspective. The story was told in dual timelines, which I absolutely love! They added to the suspense building, and kept me guessing about what would happen at the end. The characters were well developed. I found myself questioning everyone at one point or another. Overall this was a fun and entertaining read.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Lauren's sister Ellie disappeared from a work event in New Orleans over a decade ago. During that time, Lauren has spent every day wondering if that'll be the day Ellie finally comes home. Shortly after her sister's disappearance, Lauren meets Alex. They fall in love and get married. Alex's brother, Clive, also went missing around the same time as Ellie.
When Ellie's body is discovered, so are pictures she had in her pocket. Pictures that show Alex and Ellie together at a cafe the same day she disappeared. Alex may have been one of the last people to see her sister alive. Now Lauren must travel to New Orleans to get answers and hope her secrets stay buried.
It's going to be hard to review this book without giving away spoilers, but I'll do my best.
I really enjoyed the premise of this story, and I thought it started out strong. But when Lauren got to New Orleans and secrets started coming out, I quickly realized that certain character's actions and motivations were not adding up. And then the big reveals at the end cause the entire book to not make sense. There's no way Lauren and Alex would have been able to hide all those secrets from each other for over a decade.
The book was very slow-paced with lots of filler details that didn't add anything to the overall story. I needed more action to break up the monotony of the MC's thoughts.
This book really had the structure to be phenomenal, but in the end, it was lacking.
2.5/5 stars rounded up.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an audio ARC of this title!
3.5 stars.
The moment Lauren first gazed into Alex’s soulful gray eyes, she knew she’d met the man she wanted to spend her life with. She met Alex when her beloved sister vanished. He supported her through the whole ordeal, and she was glad to have married such a good man. But suddenly a decade later, the police found a fresh new clue, a photo of her husband and her sister together on the day she went missing.
First of all, how good was the premise! I was glad to see the story dived immediately into the suspense, and didn’t waste time with fillers.
I liked the first PoV approach in this as we got to be in Lauren’s head the entire time. It also induced a claustrophobic feeling as Lauren was pretty much suspecting everyone all the time. One thing I wished for more though, was more chemistry between Lauren and Alex. We only got to see a small glimpse of their supposedly ‘perfect’ relationship, and I could’ve used more.
While in the end the plot twist was a bit too dramatic (and hence, far-fetched) for me, it delivered its promise as a high-adrenaline pop-corn thriller. Was I entertained? Heck, yeah! It was such a fun ride. The audiobook performance was amazing, and I gladly sit in the journey from start to finish.
It’s not about the destination it’s about the journey. Case in point, in My Perfect Husband one is better than the other.
Lauren gets a call from the police after 12yrs of her sister Ellie going missing, but the news she receives is not what she was hoping for – her sister is dead and was found in a dilapidated building – she was so close yet so far from her family!
When the police show an old photo of her sister she realizes that one of the person in that picture is her husband, she is taken aback as her husband has never revealed to her that he knew Ellie – why would he lie and why did he befriend her? Does he have anything to do with Ellie’s disappearance all those years ago?
The twists that kept coming throughout the book left me baffled!

This was my first book by this author and I want to give her other works a try to see if they follow the same outline. I did like that no time was wasted getting to the story. The author jumped right in. The story held my attention but this is the second book I’ve read recently where there was no consequences for terrible actions. Yes, you have to use your imagination on what happens in the future but I felt after being invested in the outcome, that there was no justice. That just doesn’t sit well with me.
Thank you NetGalley for this book in return for an honest review.
I am not sure how to feel about this one. The idea of this book is very interesting and promising but it was missing an element that im not sure what it is. Just something about it didnt feel right and felt ... missing. I was interested just enough not to dnf it because i wanted to know the ending.
Which brings me to my next point, the whole book, the whole build was DESTROYED and RUINED by the ending. I was never annoyed by an ending as much as i was annoyed by this one..
I wouldnt recommend it.

Wow!! WTAF?!? JUST WOW!!!! Where do I even begin? What an absolutely gripping, intense psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, flying through the pages and full of suspense!! Filled with twists, turns, red herrings, lies, family, secrets, shocks and explosive twists you won't see coming!!! I have read hundreds of books and this has been the one that has shocked me the most this year and it has definitely hit my top 3 biggest twists of all time!!! I WAS absolutely hooked from beginning to end and just could not put it down. I started it in the morning and couldn't put it down until 2am. Georgina's writing and Stephanie's narration of this fabulous book kept me wanting, no needing, more!! Georgina is a fantastic storyteller and I have loved each and every one of her books and how she comes up with unique storylines and characters for each and every one of them! She draws you in and keeps you hooked from the very first sentence to the very last page! When the big reveal came my mind was absolutely blown away which I loved!! I read the audio version of this book which is narrated by the absolutely fantastic Stephanie Cannon. I have listened to several books narrated by Stephanie and she does an absolutely amazing job of really portraying the characters feelings and emotions every step of the way helping to bring the story to life!! I just cannot wait to see what Georgina comes up with next!!
Do not even attempt to start this until you have cleared your schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!!
The characters were strong and realistic and I was completely invested in them from beginning to end. Georgina's emotive descriptions and Stephanie's fantastic narration really do work perfectly together to ensure the characters come to life in front of you and it feels like you are right next to them throughout the book feeling and seeing everything that they are. It is also one of those fantastic books where you question yourself about the characters constantly not knowing whether you believe them or not and still i was shocked by the ending!
Congratulations Georgina on an absolutely explosive page turner!!! Also a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS on writing a book that has shocked me the most this year!!! Fun and suspenseful adventure. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming. sometimes I really like a bit of a complex twist/reveal. Looking forward to what’s next for this writer.
Twelve years ago, Lauren's sister Ellie went missing. And of course ever since, Lauren has been searching for answers.
She is now married to Alex, whose brother Clive also vanished.
When Ellie's body is finally discovered, police reveal photos found with her—pictures of Ellie with Alex and Clive taken on the day she disappeared. But why has Alex never bevore mentioned that he knew Ellie? Determined to uncover the truth, Lauren travels to New Orleans, suspecting Alex might have killed her sister. However, Alex isn't the only one hiding secrets.
This is quite some fast-paced read with twists at every turn perfectly narrated by Stephanie Cannon!
Thank you #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio for this audiobook
1 star and that is purely personal preference. There is nothing wrong with the book - and Georgina Cross can definitely write well, the narrator was brilliant and I was hooked. So, why the low rating - because of the ending. It isn't for me, I didn't like it and found it spoiled the book for me. However, if you enjoy Sarah Pinborough, Gillian Flynn or Lisa Jewell I would probably say pick this one up - and I will certainly be looking for more from Georgina Cross just based on writing -style alone.
This book put me on the edge of my seat. I was eager to listen every chance in the car I had. I got chills. I needed answers. The plot twist got me. So many secrets to unravel. This was my first thriller in a long time and it was a good start back into the genre.
Quick plot: Lauren’s sister has been missing for 12 years. So has her husbands brother. Questions and suspicions arise. Could she have married her killer? Her perfect husband?!
I enjoyed the flashbacks and the scenes set in New Orleans. I would like to visit there one day possibly.
The narrator was sweet, talented and I loved her accent.
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc in return for this review.
I really enjoyed the narrator for this audiobook. The story itself seemed to nice a little slowly at parts for my taste but I still enjoyed listening to it on my commute to work and home. The ending definitely picked up and sparked my interest to see how this was going to end. I have to admit I was slightly disappointed in how it ended. It seemed very abrupt. I was hoping this was going to wrap up in a way that gave me some closure to the story. Overall I did enjoy this audiobook.

Lauren has been searching for her missing sister for more than a decade. Her husband Alex has always been supportive of her loss as his brother is also missing. When the police call that Ellie's body was found along with some pictures, Lauren is left with a lot of questions.
I enjoyed Stephanie Cannon's narration.
Lauren and her sister, though opposites in so many ways were always close. When Lauren learns her sister is missing she and her family go all out on finding her. For years and years they are all left bereft and wondering what happened and where she is. Alex is missing his missing brother Clive and wonders if he is off traveling the world or could something be amiss.
The two meet, fall in love, get married and have a seemingly wonderful life together. When the police call to tell them they’ve found her sisters body, their dark, twisted, stories start to unravel. Who did she marry? What do they each really know about each other and their past? It was a well written, interesting and at times heart stopping listen. And the ending, just wow. Not sure what I was expecting, but definitely surprising. The narration was wonderful.
4ish stars
Another fun and suspenseful adventure. I definitely didn’t see the multi-layered ending coming, either, which I appreciated; sometimes I really like a bit of a complex twist/reveal. Looking forward to what’s next for this writer.
I really enjoyed the premise of this book. The twists and turns throughout the book kept me wondering throughout the whole book. Although it wasn't my favorite book, I was intrigued enough to keep going as I was invested enough to need to unravel all the secrets.
*3.75 stars
Thank you Georgina Cross, Bookouture and NetGalley for the gifted ALC & e-ARC. All opinions are my own.
_______
Lauren has never gotten over the disappearance of her sister Ellie from twelve years ago. She is able to share her grief with her husband Alex whom she met at a support group. Alex can understand because he lost his brother. Lauren’s marriage is suddenly threatened when police find her sister’s body. A picture is found in Ellie’s pocket of her, a strange man, and Alex. Alex swore to Lauren he didn’t know Ellie. What else did he lie about?
It’s clear right from the beginning that Alex lied, but what isn’t clear is why or exactly what happened to Ellie. Lauren travels to New Orleans (where Ellie went missing) to speak with the detective on her case. Lauren reminisces a lot about Ellie and specifically a traumatic event in the sisters’ lives that bonded them. My favorite part were the scenes from the past while getting to know the sisters. Stephanie Cannon’s narration of the younger version of the sisters was excellent. She also did a great job with the male voices, though a New Orleans accent for the detective would’ve taken the audio up a notch.
The Perfect Husband is a light suspense drama with unfolding secrets. Some parts felt overly descriptive but I enjoyed the slow reveal of the story, and the immersive New Orleans setting. If you like domestic turmoil mixed with secrets, lies and not knowing who to trust, then this is for you!
