New Orleans comes alive in this twisty thriller with its rich history and haunting atmosphere. Lauren, haunted by the disappearance of her sister years ago, is thrown into a tailspin when her remains are discovered with a photo of her husband, Alex. Alex, who claimed he never met Lauren's sister, becomes the prime suspect. The more Lauren digs, the more unbelievable the truth becomes. While the deceptive narrator trope wasn't for me, the suspenseful plot and vivid descriptions kept me hooked until the shocking and, admittedly, frustrating, finale.

I must admit that the first chapter truly captivated me. Things started falling apart for the main character, and it was really crazy. It had a lot of amazing turns and moved quickly. The New Orleans setting was appealing, and I like how descriptive it was. It was a decent domestic thriller!

This story is refreshing. Its concept immediately grabbed my attention and kept me engaged until the end. The emotions it evoked were genuine, and the pacing felt just right. It's like taking a leisurely stroll through a park rather than a wild rollercoaster ride.
Discovering this unique concept felt like finding a hidden treasure. It's different from the usual fare, and that's what made it memorable. The author's ability to balance tension with heartfelt moments was effective and kept me invested in the story.
I felt a connection to the characters, like I was experiencing their journey alongside them. The author's descriptive writing painted vivid scenes that allowed me to immerse myself in the story without feeling overwhelmed.
The story was a pleasant surprise. It reminded me of the joy of discovering something new and different in literature, and it's definitely one I'll remember for its originality and heart.

When Lauren met her now husband Alex in a grief support group, she felt they were fated to be together. Both suffering from the loss of missing younger siblings, Lauren finds comfort and support in Alex. Now married for several years and 12 years after her sister Ellie’s disappearance, Lauren feels she has the perfect life with the perfect husband. But, one day she receives a phone call from the New Orleans police department with shattering news. They have finally found Ellie, dead in an abandoned and dilapidated house lot. Grief stricken from the discovery, Lauren is even more confused when the detective tells her there were two photographs found in Ellie’s jacket, photos of Ellie and Alex together with a third man - a man who just happens to be Alex’s brother, who also went missing around the same time Ellie did. Throughout their entire relationship Alex has told Lauren how he wished he could have met Ellie, and yet now Lauren doesn’t know what to think. If Alex actually met Ellie all those years ago, what else is he hiding? What else is he lying about? With her own past and secrets to protect, can Lauren figure out the truth of what really happened to her sister so many years ago?
Overall I mostly enjoyed this book. I listened to it on audiobook and thought the narrator did a good job. The book was a quick read and I found the storyline to be intriguing. Unfortunately, I personally felt like the ending was not much to write home about. While I felt there was reasonable suspense and the author provided enough mystery for the ending to go multiple different directions, I was slightly disappointed with the “big” reveal. I did like how we were given flashbacks to Lauren’s childhood and early adulthood throughout the book to add to the understanding of her character and story.
**Not really a spoiler but don’t read if you want to go into the book completely blind**
One reason I probably did not like this book as much as I could have was it contains a certain trope in mystery/suspense books that I do not always enjoy. When done well, I can be blown away by the realization of the truth but unfortunately this book did not meet those expectations for me after the big reveal.
My Perfect Husband was an entertaining and addictive popcorn thriller. The fast pacing of this book is what made this one a one sitting bingeable read. It definitely kept me intrigued from start to finish with its multiple twists and turns.
The characters were well developed and were honestly all hard to trust, I had no idea who I could trust and I suspected everyone at some point.
The author did a great job of steering the reader in multiple directions and of shocking you with the final twist. I did not expect that at all, I would've liked it to be less open ended though. Very suspenseful, you won't be able to stop until the end.
✨️ Thank you to @netgalley, @bookouture & @georginacross for my gifted ALC in exchange for an honest review.
The potential to make this book amazing was missed with this one. Two people who siblings have both been missing for years. This could have been a twisted and suspense driven, instead there is some slight foreshadowing in the first few chapters & a disappointing ending. 90% of this novel was so boring it isn't worth reading
My mind was thoroughly engaged by the unexpected and gripping plot twist - it caught me completely off guard! This fast-paced psychological thriller had me captivated from the very first chapter. The book features a compelling mix of elements, including missing siblings, a dubious spouse, countless secrets, and thrilling twists that kept me eagerly waiting for more. I devoured this book in less than a day.
After over a decade of seeking answers about her sister Ellie's disappearance, Lauren receives the dreaded phone call she had been bracing herself for. Ellie has been discovered, albeit only her remains. The shocking twist? Pictures were found alongside Ellie's body.
I would like to express my profound gratitude to both NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.

A very well written psychological thriller with unexpected twist. Well described characters, unexpected plot & great narration.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the ALC.
This was my first time listening to an audiobook narrated by Stephanie Cannon. No issues with the characters voices and I spent extra time on the treadmill just to hear one more chapter.
Lauren has been searching for her missing sister for years. A phone call brings tragic news. She is shocked that her sister is gone forever. Lauren cannot believe that she was carrying a picture of Alex, the man Lauren married. Something Alex has never mentioned in all the years he comforted her and helped her search for Ellie. Was Alex involved in Ellie’s disappearance?
The author always writes books with out of the blue twists. This time, I wondered if she would reveal the guilty party so early (was it Alex), or was I just being set up for a different reveal. No spoilers here, but I went back-and-forth trying to decide what happened to Ellie. Add in the fact that Alex’s brother Clive is also missing, and the story kept me on my toes and guessing. So many secrets and lies!
This publishes on May 16 and my vote is that it would make a great beach listen.
Well that was fun. I enjoyed listening to My Perfect Husband and would love to know what happens next! This one goes fast and I can all but guarantee you won't see the ending coming.
This was so good !!! I listened to it in one day! I often found myself second guessing and the ending was surprising , but perfect. If you’re looking for a twisty psychological thriller, add this one to your TBR!!
Overall, My Perfect Husband was captivating psychological thrillers with some fab twists and revelations. Narrated by Stephanie Cannon, the audio version of this was well done and attention holding.
Main character Lauren is married to Alex. They have a great marriage and each have tragic backstories which bonded them in their feelings of sorrow and loss. They both have siblings who are missing. Lauren's sister Ellie went missing in New Orleans years ago and no clues or sightings have ever been found. Alex's brother Clive was enroute to Texas and disappeared, also, no hints as to what happened to him,
Lauren receives a phone call from the police confirming the worst news possible, they have found her sisters deceased body. This could be seen as a sense of closure but instead opens up a lot of new questions, suspicion and doubts. In her sisters possession she had photos. The photos show her sitting with two men. One of them is Alex and one of them is his missing brother. Crazy thing though, Alex said he had never met Ellie before even saying to his wife he had wished he had met her.
The story escalades from here and the suspicion of everyone is real. It wasn't until the last quarter of the book my detective senses started to put things together but I was still not prepared for how all the pieces clicked in together.
Excellent listen, highly recommend the audiobook! 4 solid stars.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book
I listened to this book in less than a day and was hooked from the start. It has all of my favourite mystery and thriller tropes:
- main character with complex backstories
- all of the secrets!
- a great dual timeline and POV format
- it kept me guessing from start to finish
- some great twists
Would highly recommend. This was my first book from this author and I will now be adding the back catalogue to my ever growing tbr!!
Don’t let my rating push you away from this one. I think it has good reviews overall, from what I’ve seen.
Personally, I cannot stand the deceptive narrator trope- and it had my eyes rolling throughout. Others enjoy and appreciate this, so that is why, if you enjoy thrillers- you should give it a try for yourself.
Lauren is married to Alex. They met in a grief group on campus and connected over the loss of their missing siblings. Her sister, and his brother- are both missing persons. No one could understand exactly what Lauren was going through- until she met Alex.
After 12 years, she gets the dreaded phone call. Her sister’s remains have been found in New Orleans- where she went missing. Even more shocking, she had a photo in her jacket pocket after all those years. In the photo is Lauren’s husband, Alex, who had supposedly never met her sister Ellie.
Then, the book goes off the rails, imo. Becomes totally unrealistic and I just wanted it to end. And then it ended and I was even more mad.
I don’t want to say much, because I don’t want to give anything away. I will say I loved the New Orleans backdrop, loved the descriptive writing- and there were definitely twists and turns!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an advanced audio copy of this book. I’m sorry I didn’t love this one.

Lauren's sister, Ellie, has been missing for years. So has her husband, Alex's, brother, Clive. When Ellie's body has been found there is a picture in her pocket of her, Clive and Alex. Does Alex know more about Ellie's disappearance than he's lead Lauren to believe? Does she?
I did enjoy this one, but after all the build up to what really happened to Ellie I was a bit let down with the outcome. It was both super fast paced and draggy at times. I wouldn't really consider it a thriller, more of a domestic mystery, since the disappearances happened so long ago. I liked the ending, but I don't think it will be for everyone.
Narration notes:
Stephanie did a really good job.
This narrator is the best at "cop" voices. She is a genius. This was so crazy at the end. You think you know what is going on and then you are like "ohhh".
I can't share too much because it will ruin it all. Wow.
That ending!
My Perfect Husband by Georgina Cross and narrated by Stephanie Cannon is an outstanding psychological thriller which left me lost for words in its brilliant twist. Seriously, a "no waaaay" moment
Lauren is married to Alex, a man she met at a grief management meeting. Both were attending due to the loss of their siblings; Ellie, Lauren's sister had been snatched while in New Orleans, Clive, Alex's brother had disappeared one day without a word. Alex and Lauren had built a friendship, begun dating and eventually married. The Audiobook opens on their usual morning routine of Alex bringing Lauren a mug of coffee in bed, her favourite mug.
Lauren was the envy of her social group. Alex always did the most thoughtful things here and there, coffee, flowers, support. He was even there when her fear of heights took over and soothed her anxiety every time the phone rang. The phone rings, it's a New Orleans number, is this finally the answer Lauren had been waiting so many years for? The question that broke her mothers heart and was still unanswered when she died. The question that was still unanswered when the couple admitted Lauren's father to a care home as they were not able to look after him as well as they could have
Yes, this is the answer, but it also comes with a photograph, a photograph that will change Lauren's and the couples lives forever
Oooooof! This is not even the half of it and I will stop the describing so as not to give anything away.
Stephanie Cannon is brilliant in her narration. The cast of characters is equally balanced and Cannon is a versatile narrator, producing a highly engaging audiobook
Georgina Cross weaves a very intricate web, delicate, graceful, but strong as steel and snags the reader in like a spider does with a fly and likewise, there is no way out, you are gripped until the last page. Sorry to use such a cliche, but they exist for a reason. The tplot twists were blinding and will leave your head spinning in the best way. And what is more, they don't stop til you close the book or press stop on the audiobook. Is Georgina Cross going on the "auto must read yes indeed" list? Um yes!
Brilliant, simply brilliant
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture Audio, Bookouture, Georgina Cross and the narrator Stephanie Cannon for this exceptional ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own
This book grabbed my attention from the first page. I was sucked in and curious to know what was going on. This story made me mad at the husband, thinking he was a jerk. It turns out they were both hiding secrets. Can either of them be trusted? As the plot unfolds more unexpected twists become known. This was a good read.
"My Perfect Husband" started off promising, but ultimately fell flat. The plot hinges on an excessive amount of unbelievable coincidences, leaving me feeling like the characters were constantly saved by sheer luck rather than genuine development. It was a disappointing read for anyone who enjoys a plot driven by realistic cause and effect.
I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley to read and review. This book was a big miss for me unfortunately. The characters were unlikable, the pacing was bad and caused quite a disconnect throughout the story. And the end left me with more questions than answers.
