3.5 stars rounded up to 4! 12 years ago, Lauren’s sister Ellie went missing. Her family held out hope that they would eventually find her, and they did… they found her body and estimated that she had died the day before she was reported missing… they also found another body, Lauren’s husband’s brother.. Clive. Did Lauren’s husband have something to do with this? Did Lauren? Do they know each other’s secrets?

This was a typical thriller with some plot holes, but that is to be expected. Overall this was a good read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a “who done it” thriller that has a plot twist and a cliff hanger ending. This book isn’t even out yet and I am already anticipating the next one (if there is one).

This one just didn’t work for me at all! The first half of the read just didn’t align with the second half. It felt disjointed and like 2 different storylines. The reactions of the character’s just didn’t flow throughout the read. I found Lauren to be such an annoying character throughout. Her dialogue felt so repetitive throughout the read. In the second half it felt like the storyline got bizarre and it didn’t conjoin with the actions and thoughts of how the storyline started out. I found it a slog to get through and it didn’t engage me and just seemed drawn out to the point I wasn’t inclined to pick it up. Unfortunately this one wasn’t for me.

This was my first audiobook so not much to compare it to but I thought the narrator did a great job.

In my opinion the story was a bit of a slower burn but even so the pace of the story was great and the book itself was a quick read. Even though the burn was on the slower side, with every page the tension and suspense were palpable. You could just feel it all building, getting ready to blow up with a thrilling ending (which it definitely delivered on).

Other notes were I absolutely loved the New Orleans setting and the use of dual timeline within the story.

This was my second book by Georgina and man does she know how to write a solid, captivating thriller! I am definitely making it a priority to start working my way through her backlist.

My Perfect Husband by Georgina Cross
Narrated by Stephanie Cannon

For the last twelve years Lauren has had trouble getting out of bed in the morning. Ever since her younger sister, Ellie, disappeared in New Orleans, she has been on Lauren's mind. The only thing that has kept Lauren sane is her devoted husband, Alex, who also has a missing sibling. What a blessing for Lauren to meet Alex during her final year of college and to be able to share her love of Ellie and the heartbreak of losing her.

Now Ellie's body has been found and old, imperfect pictures have been found on her body. Lauren thought her world was messed up enough with her sister missing. Now everything in her life has been blown up when she sees the pictures. Her entire life feels like it's been built on falsehoods. When she needs her husband more than ever, Lauren wants nothing to do with him.

The story is full of twists and turns and it's hard to know who to trust, who knows more than they are telling, and who may be out to do more damage. Trust no one, that's my advice! Stephanie Cannon does a fine job of narrating the cast of characters in this audiobook.

This was my first book by the author and I really liked her writing style and the narrator of the audiobook. I really enjoyed hearing it.

You are immersed in the story from the beginning and it is immediately exciting. You keep asking yourself, was it her husband or not?

Up until halfway through, my ears were glued to the audiobook. It was just extremely exciting and I just had to know what was going to happen. The emotions in the book were so well developed that I would have liked to comfort the Protagonist.

However, it lost me from the middle onwards and it dragged on a lot. Some of the "flashbacks" could have been left out.

I wasn't expecting the ending! But for me, it was just a bit over the top and unrealistic.
Nevertheless, it didn't stop me from listening to the entire audiobook in one go.

My perfect husband is a solid thriller that you can easily listen to at any time and that will keep you guessing until the end! I had a good time!

I love a good thriller that is cloaked in deception, lies, and secrets, and Georgina Cross did not disappoint. It was a full-on popcorn thriller with a unique mystery.
The duel timelines work very well here with the current timeline and then past flashbacks to Lauren and Ellie when they were younger.

In this story, nothing is as it seems. We have a couple who are both lying, both keeping secrets from their past. How far will they go to protect themselves?

For me, the most important thing in a book is the setting. It's how I immerse myself and get lost in the story.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗛𝘂𝘀𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱 is set in New Orleans, and Georgina Cross's imagery was so atmospheric I felt as if I were there walking the streets. Beautifully descriptive!

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 :
While the audiobook was great and Stephanie Cannon did a good job, the lack of New Orleans accents bugged me.

I found it the first half of the book a bit long and drawn out. It was missing thst hook that grabs the reader from the first chapter.

Overall, it is a good story with some great twists
But I just don't think this author's books are for me.
But I seem to be in the minority so you decide for yourself.

When her sister's remains are found years after she first went missing, Lauren thinks she'll finally get closure. Unfortunately, a photo is found with her sister's body that suggests Lauren's own husband might have more information than he claims.

I absolutely loved this one, definitely my favorite so far from this author! The story jumps right into the thick of it and keeps your attention throughout. There are lots of good plot twists, one that I saw coming and the other I did not. It definitely pushed the boundaries of believable/feasible towards the end but the combination of good writing and good narration it managed to stay on track. Fans of Georgina Cross will absolutely devour this one, but so will most fans of mystery/thrillers!

DNF at 40%

Started off with a captivating premise and then sank fast, made worse by how slow moving and repetitive / drawn out it became. There are so many unnecessary details (eg descriptions of a fountain ⛲️ at a hotel), repeated facts, etc. I keep doing the “move it alone” motion with my hand.

I also couldn’t stand the MC. She is this sad puppy who is almost obsessed with her dead sister and can’t stop dwelling on her losses. .

The detective and New Orleans police also rubbed me. Nothing about their words or actions was realistic or believable.

The lack of NOLA accents also bothered me as an audio listener. I finally had to give up

This captivated me, it was my second by this author and I wanted to know what all the buzz was. This worked well, wasn't what I was expecting it was definitely a thinking person's psychological thriller. It starts off slow and then the strands start coming together. It is interesting how the main characters acted - there are definitely some issues there.

It kept me going so much that I realised so much time had passed and I was still listening to it - more or less a one session listen.

The ending was interesting and I loved how that worked.

The title makes sense - not what I was originally thinking but at the end I got it.

I was entertained for most of the book. It is face paced. Cross does and great job with the description of places and I was able to put myself with the narrators/characters. I did not see the ending happening and I loved it.

This is a high quality quick listen thriller.
A descrptive setting throughoutthe story. The plot deals with a phone call many years after her sister went missing that turns their world upside down as secrets are revealed. I loved the way the main secret was hibted at by reliving the past over multiple time lines. I did guess the teist but it was so entertaining and the additional characters gave the story grounding. I would like to have more of the husbands perspective . I wanted more from the ending. It was very enjoyable. The characters past enhanced the plot .it was a bit unbelievable in places and the reaction of the husband towards the end seemed too werk.
A cracking listen. Thanks to netgallery and publisher and author and narrator

Oh, the twists and turns.
I finished this one in a single sitting, I just could not stop. I have no regrets!

Lauren's sister has been missing for 12 years. Ellie was always a free spirit and there is no indication if her disappearance is related to being wild and free or to a missing person and crime. Lauren's husband Alex has been supportive the entirety of their marriage helping Lauren through her grief and traumas. When the police finally find Ellies body, there is a faded photo in her pocket with someone who looks rather familiar. Whose photo is it you ask? Alex, Lauren's husband. The betrayal sinks in when Lauren realizes not only did her husband know Ellie, but he was with her before she died, and he never mentioned it. Little does Alex know, he's not the only one keeping secrets.

This was a fast-paced quick read for me. The twists were so good and just enough to keep me hooked waiting to see what happens next. Some areas were predictable but nothing that spoiled the suspense or storyline. This was in the dual timeline format, and it was very easy to tell which time frame each chapter took place.

I received the audiobook for this and thought the narrator did very well. It was always clear on who was talking. Emotions were portrayed and received appropriately throughout the entirety of the story. She was not monotone and was able to keep the suspense alive with her voice.

The characters became more complex and the plot more intricate as the story unfolded. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly turning the pages to see how it would all unravel. By the end, I was completely engrossed in the story and couldn't put it down. Overall, it was a a great second half after a slower first half

Book Title: My Perfect Husband
Author: Georgina Cross
Format: 🎧
Narrator: Stephanie Cannon
Publisher: Bookouture Audio
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Pub Date: May 16, 2024
My Rating: 4.5 Stars!
Pages: 320

The moment Lauren met Alex she knew she had met the man she wanted to spend her life with. They were both students at North Western University and bonded immediately out sorrow my sister Ellie and his brother Clive both went missing. Ellie disappeared around 1twelve years ago in North Orleans and Clive about eleven years ago.
Alex wiped away my tears after bad dreams—he put me back together.
When my sister is found dead the police found a crumpled photo in her pocket – the photo is my sister and two men. One is Alex the other his missing brother. How can that be? Alex told me he didn’t know my sister - my perfect world has just shattered…

At first I found Lauren whiny and the story a little slow. However I have read two other Georgina Cross thrillers ~ "The Niece and One Night" both were great.
I enjoy stories that keep me guessing. So I knew Ms. Cross had a surprise coming. Even though I knew that ~
The ending was spectacular - my eyes were full of surprise and my mouth flew open -
I certainly didn’t see that coming
Ms. Cross does not disappoint!

I loved reading “Ten Things about Georgina Cross”.
Here are few but all are interesting!
 She was born in Hong Kong.
 She is Eurasian - her mother is Malaysian-Chinese and father is English.
 Lived in England, Dubai, and Malaysia; also lived on a cargo ship! As her father was a ship captain.

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for granting me this thriller.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for May 16, 2024.

This popcorn thriller had me keenly listening to the audiobook (which was fantastic!), on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it played out. Thrillers that centre around secrets are always fun and this one had more than its share of surprises, with so many twists I didn't see coming.
This was my first Georgina Cross book and I am definitely keen to read more.

My Perfect Husband was full of twists! Absolutely had no idea how the book was going to end.

Years after her sister, Ellie, went missing, Lauren gets the call she never wanted to receive. Her sisters body has been found. There were a few photos found in Ellie’s pockets. , When the detective sends over the photos, Lauren sees familiar faces with her sister.
Definitely recommend to fans of psychological thriller. You won't be disappointed.

Lauren and Alex are a happy couple living in Illinois. Alex is the perfect husband- he is always thinking of his wife, bringing her coffee in her favorite mug, buying her flowers, and most importantly, he is supportive. He has been there for Lauren since her sister went missing 12 years ago. Despite having a younger brother who also went missing, Alex has always put Lauren and her search for her younger sister before himself.
One day, Lauren gets a call from New Orleans police department, saying they've found her sister's body. Along with the body, they also find some pictures that link Lauren's husband to her sister. But how can this be if Alex has never met Ellie?
My Perfect Husband is a suspenseful read, great if you want a quick, fast-paced thrill! The twists are pretty good, however, it does take a while to get there. There seems to be a lot of repetition, and the story is a little drawn out. By the end, I wasn't left as wowed as I thought I'd be, especially for a thriller with a premise as this one. It just felt a bit flat to me, although I'm sure some will love it!

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and Georgina Cross for this wonderful ARC!

This is a great novel that gave me nervous heart flutters, attempting to figure out who to watch out for. Cross does an exemplary job throwing you off scents, creating suspicion where there is none, and taking you through the twists and turns. My Perfect Husband explores the bond that exists between siblings; about the lengths we would go for each other, and the secrets we may keep to keep each other safe. This novel genuinely had me on the edge of my seat, trying to untangle the story about what happened to siblings, and who would eventually pay for their wrongdoings. Highly recommend as a psychological thriller.
