Well written thriller.
Alex and Lauren are a happily married couple that share the bond over siblings that went missing 12 years prior. Alex is always there for her and her family, supporting and loving her. When Lauren gets the devastating call that her sister’s body has finally been found and an old photo showing her sister and her husband was found with her body. Secrets start being revealed and events of the past play in her mind. Alex is the perfect husband or is he…
The book is filled with flashbacks and mental wonderings of various scenarios. As information comes to light that makes Lauren question everything, she travels to New Orleans to bring her sister’s body home and further investigate her death.
I won’t give away spoilers here, but the twist midway through really surprised me! At times I doubted the reasons for certain events and had to remember they were all young, 20 somethings and not necessarily rational in thought.
I found it a thrilling listen with good narration. It did leave me wanting more closure in the end. I felt like I was dropped in a cliffhanger without a next season to look forward to.
I was given the arc audio from NetGalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review.
Judging from the other reviews on this title, it seems my review is very much an “it’s not you, it’s me” thing. I struggled enormously to get into the story, I just couldn’t connect, I think that generally the narration does that for me, sometimes the story is so strong I can still get to grips with the it, others I can’t, and unfortunately this time I just couldn’t.
The premise of the story is strong, I just couldn’t get with it for some reason, and I couldn’t enjoy it, there’s a twist at the end that was very well done, I just wish I’d enjoyed the rest enough for it to have had the impact that it should. Please don’t let my review put you off. It clearly just wasn’t for me and that’s ok.
I’d like to express my gratitude to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this in return for an honest review.
Lauren and Alex were the perfect, married couple who initially bonded over each having missing siblings. When police discover the body of Lauren’s sister after over a decade, Lauren begins to question everything and everyone…even her husband. Told from Lauren’s point-of-view in a present and past time-line, this psychological thriller/missing persons mystery had quite the build-up for one really surprising and major twist at the end. If you are a fan of quick read thrillers, I think you’ll like this one. I have to admit, the title and cover blurb initially drew me to pick up and listen to this one. The narrator was engaging and I felt she portrayed the main female character really well.
About the Narrator
The Narrator did an excellent job . I was completely hooked from the beginning till the end. The past and present POVs gave me clarity about characters and loved that the mystery slowly unfolded with the truth and several twists
The book was twisted and suspenseful, I was fully invested in the story and it is filled with twists and turns. You can expect shocking revelations at the end. Ellie went missing some twelve years ago, Lauren married to Alex and she doesn’t realise that he is hiding something from her until the officer sends the photos of Ellie being with Alex and his younger brother in a cafe. With a devastating news of Ellie’s death, Lauren’s heart fills with grief but also the doubt gets etched in her mind that her husband is hiding something and he knew Ellie. He might be the killer. While unthinkable things happens and that makes her even more suspicious of her husband. The truth is twisted and revelations at the end were shocking.
Thanks to Publisher, Narrator and Author.
Georgina Cross returns following One Night with her latest domestic suspense, MY PERFECT HUSBAND. A husband and wife with missing siblings. Both are hiding secrets in their marriage of the past. Can they trust one another?
Lauren and Alex are married and both graphic designers. Lauren lost her sister years ago, and her body has not been found. Alex also has a missing brother, Clive.
Years later, Lauren's dad is in an assisted living facility, and her mom has passed. Then the news comes. Ellie's body was found in New Orleans. There is an investigation.
Strangely, photos are found with Ellie. Alex and Clive. What is the connection between Clive, Alex, and Ellie? Alex had told Lauren he did not know her sister. What is going on?
However, Lauren and Alex hide their secrets in New Orleans. What are they hiding, and what happened to Ellie and Clive?
MY PERFECT HUSBAND features unreliable narrators and unlikable characters. Nothing is as it appears. Both are lying, and both have buried secrets from the past. How far will they go to keep their secrets?
Which one will confess?
The book's one highlight was its New Orleans setting. However, I found it very repetitive and slow.
I read the e-book and listened to the audiobook narrated by Stephanie Cannon. While the narration was fine, I just could not get into this book, and it was not for me. Of the few I have read, I came away with the same opinion. Her books are not for me; however, I am sure they have a particular audience.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fast paced, entertaining popcorn thriller. Some fun twists and it kept me guessing. I went with the audiobook which was narrated by Stephanie Cannon and it was well done.
Lauren's sister disappeared many years ago. Her husband has helped through the grief of it. When the police find her sister's body, there is a faded picture in her pocket. Lauren's husband is in the picture with his arm around her sister. Why was he with her before her death?! What does her husband know about her sister's death? If you enjoy Freida McFadden, then I definitely think you'll also enjoy this one!
Out May 16.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I really liked the premise of a missing sister turned up dead, suspicion of the husband and set in New Orleans.
I found the beginning a little slow but I enjoyed the flash backs. The middle was fine but the grand reveal a little lack lustre. Narration was fine although a little annoying and kind of slow 7 1/2 out of 10 for narration
I LOVED this book! A true mystery with lots of twists!
The twists in this book had my jaw on the floor! I was NOT expecting them at all. The ending was awesome. Not to give anything away, but I love how it ended in a bit of a stand off.
I really enjoy this narrator in every single audiobook she does. I love her voice and how she can do other voices within the story. I listened at 1.75x and devoured this book in about two days!
If you’re looking for a twisty missing persons mystery, this one is IT!
This was very up my alley in terms of dramatic first person thriller with plenty of twists and deception!
Premise - Lauren’s little sister disappeared years ago, along with her husband’s brother, and she hasn’t been able to move on. After new discoveries bring the mystery back to the foreground, she learns her husband (who allegedly hadn’t met them yet) knew her sister. Is he involved? Of course, Lauren isn’t without secrets of her own.
One of the twists didn’t really work for first person narration for me, because it made her early thinking not really make sense. Overall, though, it was a fun, quick read perfect for fans of popcorn thrillers.
If you like Mary Kubica, Frieda McFadden, and co. you should definitely give this a read!
Thanks, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lauren has the perfect, caring husband who has been by her side as she searches for years for her missing sister, Ellie.
Now that there has been an update in the case, Lauren is shocked to learn that her husband might know more about her sister than he has let on throughout their relationship...
Fans of Freida McFadden will devour this one in one sitting. It is a quick-paced, psychological thriller that very quickly pulls you in within the first chapter. I thought I had it all figured out, but I was very mistaken.
I listened on audio, and the narrator (Stephanie Cannon) did a fantastic job keeping pace.
