Willow Rose has another hit! This is the third book in the #DetectiveBillieAnnWildeseries, a non-stop thrill ride.
Billie Ann is back as our tortured protagonist that handles everything life throws at her fiercely. In Her Grave throws her a case that hits right at home and she’s in a race to solve it. The action hits so fast in this one. It’s unputdownable!
Thank you, Willow Rose, Bookouture, & netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.
TRIGGER WARNING: rape, drugs, child murder
Billie Ann Wilde is a detective but the latest case is personal as her family are targeted...
In Her Grave is the third book in the Detective Billie Ann Wilde series. I have not read the earlier books but intend to catch on them urgently as this one was fab!
A young boy has his throat slit. His father confesses. A drug addict is held captive and cruelly injured. Two teens are attacked. The connection? All are family members of Billie Ann Wilde and she fears her children may be the next targets in a campaign of revenge.
I was utterly gripped by this book from the first page to the last. Most of the book is written to show Billie Ann's first person perspective as the case unfolds, but there are also chapters to show the victims as well as episodes from the past which seem unconnected.
Billie Ann is a great lead character. She is trying to negotiate the breakdown of her marriage and it is linked to an event in the past. Her husband is awful but the danger their children are facing would bring out the worst in all of us. She is unable to investigate the case as she would like due to the family connection as I could understand her frustration.
The chapters are short so the plot speeds along. I thought the writing was vivid and the descriptions of the killings were chilling, even more so as many of them involved children.
In Her Grave was a brilliant detective thriller.
A killer lurking.. and a detective willing to do anything to protect her family!
This was a wonderful thriller, full of twists and turns ones you will break your neck with. Nonstop thrill ride
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 In In Her Grave by new to me author, Willow Rose, the third installment of the Detective Billie Ann Wilde series, Billie Ann is faced with a heartbreaking case – the murder of a child, who turns out to be her nephew. When her estranged brother confesses to the crime, she refuses to believe him and works tirelessly unofficially to prove his innocence.
The story is gripping and kept me engaged from start to finish. There seems to be more challenges ahead for Billie Ann, especially in her personal life, which takes a sad turn at end.
Although I hadn't read any of Willow Rose's books before, I discovered that I have the first book, Don’t Let Her Go, waiting for me on my Kindle. I plan to get book two, Then She’s Gone, and dive into both, even though In Her Grave can be enjoyed on its own. I didn't feel like I missed out on anything by not reading the previous books.
Don't miss out on this captivating read – grab your copy now!
Detective Billie Ann Wilde is back! This is book 3 in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. I absolutely love this series! Billie Ann becomes more and more of a boss with each book. I was very excited to read this book because I knew the drama, twists, and action would not disappoint. We get to see more of Billie Ann's personal life, which I loved! I'm enjoying getting to know her outside of work. There is a lot of drama in her personal life, but she handles it with grace and continues to do her job through all the adversity.
In this book, we see Detective WIlde's family being attacked. Her nephew is murdered, and the search is on for the killer. This story develops at the speed of lightning! I was truly captivated by the plot, and I had to know what was going to happen. This book has a lot of raw emotions, and some parts pulled on my heartstrings as a mother. This book was a roller coaster of emotions! I think I went through every emotion possible while reading this. There was twist after twist and turn after turn. This series has solidified Willow Rose as one of my fave authors. I loved this book even more than the 1st two, and I hope there is more Billie Ann Wilde in my future!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
In this book, we catch up with Billie Ann as she attempts to juggle her life. She's a detective, going through a rough time with her ex-husband, attempting to date her best friend, and trying to be there for her kids. Now, someone is hurting her family. Her young nephew has been murdered, and this is just the start. Billie needs to find out who wants to hurt her this badly before they go after her children.
This was a fairly fast-paced read, with lots of 'heart-in-throat' moments. Some of it was a difficult read as a mother, so be aware that this could be a difficult read. It also mentions rape a few times. However, it is not in a graphic way.
I really enjoyed this one, but I swear I wanted to knock some sense into Travis' wife. Aside from her stupidity, this was a great read and I can't wait for book 4.
This is the third book in the series, and while it had the suspense and twists like the first two, it didn't hold my attention as well. The first two had suspense throughout, where as this one had more moments of slowness. It also had way more family drama and I'm not a fan of the FMC's soon to be ex-husband. He became more annoying than anything. The story was great and the character development evolve more. But this definitely wasn't my favorite of the series.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and author Willow Rose for this gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Detective Billie Ann Wilde was a detective before coming to Cocoa Beach, FL. We learned briefly about this time in previous books; however, in the latest edition, IN HER GRAVE, her haunting past (one she has tried to put behind her) collides with the present, and someone is out for vengeance, putting everything Billie cares about in danger and jeopardy.
About Billie...
Billie is a breast cancer survivor. She was married to Joe for eighteen years, and they have three children. Charlene (17), William (15), and Zach (10) residing in Cocoa Beach, FL. She recently came out to the family as gay, asked for a divorce, and newly dating a long-time best friend and love of her life, (Danni) with twins, also getting a divorce. There has been much conflict between Joe and Billie regarding her dangerous line of work and time away from the kids and her cases putting them in harm's way. In this installment, Joe is fighting her for full custody, trying to prove she is an unfit mother. She is a fabulous detective, has a great heart, and is a caring, loving mother and loyal friend.
About the Book...
Billie's life is about to be upended again when a body is found dead is a member of her own family in this intense, dark, suspenseful, emotional, and riveting psychological crime thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the explosive ending cliffhanger, salivating for #4, coming Dec 2024, Find My Girl: An addictive and heart-racing mystery thriller packed with suspense. This will be a great Christmas present for her fans.
Charlie and Tommy - teens were going through the Haunted Jail Trail, full of skeletons, frightening monsters, ghosts, and zombies in the maze. As soon as he thought he had escaped the maze, a hand reached out and pulled him backward. Charlie was pulled back into the darkness in terror by a figure in a white mask with a knife. Charlie tried to scream. It was too late.
Tommy could not find Charlie in the maze as they got separated but knew he could not leave without him. Frantic, he went looking for him and found his lifeless body and had to get help.
Billie Ann was set for a date night when she received the call about a dead body at the haunted trail by the jail. A kid. A homicide. When she arrives on the scene she is shocked. It is her nephew!
Alternating from past to present (then and now), we learn how Betty, a diner waitress, met Officer Travis Walker, a cop. Her background and how she fell in love with the man whom the town respected. They soon married, and she wanted to have a baby but failed to do so. She looked up to this man, putting him on a pedestal, and refused to believe the evil things from rape and more he was involved in and continued to stand by him. He was her life, her rock, her partner in crime, and her soulmate. Then a boy comes into her world. Could this be her chance for motherhood?
Billie Ann is grief-stricken by the news of her nephew, her brother Peter's son. Of course, her boss removed her from the case since this was her oldest brother's son. But Billie will do whatever she can to help Peter, her brother.
There were hundreds of suspects and no eyewitnesses, no CCTV. Tickets were paid in cash. Billie thinks this was a killer with planning and experience. The worst kind and she was afraid this kind would kill again. Billie will stop at nothing to find justice for her brother Peter. She has not seen him in years, and he looks nothing like the fun teen she grew up with. Then she gets a shocker, Peter has confessed to Charlie's murder.
She knows this cannot be correct and suspects he is covering for someone. Billie is determined to defend her brother as she knows he is not a killer. From sneaking into files and doing her own investigating work behind the scenes, in between her other cases, she finds a link between his other young son and the murder weapon. Is Peter taking the fall to protect him?
Then twins were attacked at a zoo. One died, and the other was in critical condition in the same fashion, so it could not be her brother. He was covering for someone.
A diversion. Then her worst nightmare —Billie gets a spine-chilling call from an unknown number that turns her blood cold. It is the cry of her own youngest son, Zach. The killer has taken him.
What does the killer want with her family? She must protect her son. Between getting kicked off the case, trying to find her nephew's killer to help her brother, locate her son, a killer, and her teen daughter likes a boy Tyler who is twenty-eight and way too old for her and could be dangerous, and her ex using Billie's job against her to get custody of the kids and possibly her house, so the stress is overwhelming. She definitely has to put dating and a relationship on the back burner, but Danni is very supportive.
Billie must pull all her resources and strength into finding the vicious evil predator and determining his motives to try and stay one step ahead of him. As her haunted traumatic past meets the present, will Billie possess the strength and savvy to outsmart the killer and save her family and those she loves so dear?
My thoughts...
In her 100th novel, Rose raises her game as she does with every book. Intense, gripping, bold, multilayered, and highly emotional, IN HER GRAVE is compulsive reading, a first-rate crime thriller.
IN HER GRAVE is heart-pounding, taut, addictive, riveting suspense, and intense. Filled with dangers lurking with every page turn in a race against time to try and outsmart a sadistic killer and a woman blindly protecting him, even disbelieving her own sister.
Is someone out for revenge from her past, her cases or what is the connection? Billie Ann must pull out all the stops while working behind the scenes on her other cases and working with her team to protect her family from a monster.
The author skillfully keeps the suspense high with the alternating POVs from Betty (then-chilling) to Billie Ann (now) and someone named Andy for a few chapters. You do not know how the storylines will collide or connect, but you are in for the ride.
IN HER GRAVE is another unputdownable thrill ride whodunit, read in one sitting. Set aside the time as the author skillfully leads readers on a thrilling, spine-chilling journey into the past.
Rose pulls out all the stops in #3 for a nail-biting, emotional, gripping crime thriller that fans will devour. This is a top-notch detective crime series and a powerhouse author! I highly recommend this series and read them in order as you do not want to miss a thing. I cannot wait for #4!
On a personal note...
As a fellow Floridan, I was drawn to the first book in the Detective Billie Ann Wilde series, which was also the first book I read by Willow Rose. I would love to see a TV series developed based on this series! It would be killer.
I instantly enjoyed the author's captivating storytelling, plot twists, and the extraordinary detective series and well-developed relatable characters. A fan for life! Billie Ann Wilde is a fascinating character, and Rose writes compassionately, showing all sides of the detective, from her strong to her vulnerable side. A woman who loves life with many challenges. This one was difficult at the end for her and readers; however, here's hoping #4 will change things for Billie. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment to see if our favorite detective finally gets a little happiness she deserves before her next case. Rooting for her and Danni and the kids. I am in for the long haul and hope this series continues. It is too good to end.
Inspiration...
I love that the author shares the fascinating inspiration behind her novels, which she includes in her Authors' Note with links to those news articles. (this was a good one). I enjoy going down the rabbit hole. This adds depth to her books and enhances the overall reading experience. Her characters are well developed as she balances work, personal life, and family. Always expect some jaw-dropping plot twists from the queen! I highly recommend this author and the series!

Wow, poor Billie Ann is slammed from all directions in this one.
Someone is targeting her family and depleting its members.
Billie Ann tires to fit the jagged puzzle pieces to form a coherent picture but the clock is ticking.
Family secrets pour out and it will cost not only Billie Ann dearly but also her family.
You may need some liquid courage while reading!
‘In Her Grave’ is the third instalment of the series and another gripping and addictive police procedural by this author. Although these books could be read as standalones, I highly recommend reading them in order to get the full entertainment factor that they present.
Full of plot twists and familiar characters, this storyline played havoc with my emotions in a good way. I found this read hard to put down, with life commitments being the only reason for stopping/starting. Even when I could continue reading, the storyline drew me back in flawlessly. I can't wait to read book 4 in the near future.
This is an excellent addition to fans of this author and/or genre, and I highly recommend this series.
In Her Grave is a fast paced and thrilling read. I was actually stunned at times and the suspense and twists of the investigation captivated me. The book ends somewhat unresolved and I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

Another gripping thriller from Willow Rose. This time the case involves Billie's family so she investigates the case unofficially. A can't put down book, with good plotting and characters, roll on the next book. Thanks to Bookoutre for this ARC through Netgalley
WELL… That was a whirlwind of a read. This is the 3rd instalment in the Detective Billie Ann Wilde series. Ive read book 1 but not book 2 but that didn’t take away from this one at all. Past history is referenced but explained so you don’t feel like you’re missing something. This one has a really well developed storyline and characters. I love Billie Ann as a character. Shes such a force to be reckoned with. But I so wanted to knock some sense into Travis’ wife Betty. The storyline moves at a fast pace and keeps you on your toes with lots of twists along the way. There was never a dull moment and the pace never let up. Another great read from Willow Rose.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review #InHerGrave
This is a great crime thriller.
When a young boy is found murdered in a maze Billie Ann is called to investigate. When she gets there she’s frozen to the spot as she realises it’s her nephew.
She’s not spoken to her brother for some time but assures him she’ll do all she can to find his son’s killer.
This is a bit tricky though as she’s not allowed to lead on the case due to the personal involvement.
Soon other members of Billie Ann’s family are in danger and she realises someone is trying to hurt her, through her family.
She’s also dealing with her ex and has a fight on her hands to keep her children and her home.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
There is never a dull moment in the world of Detective Billie Ann Wilde and I love being along for the ride.
At the end of book two in this brilliant series, there was a huge hook that had me chomping at the bit to get stuck into this instalment and it did not disappoint as the author took us back into Billie Ann's earlier career - I love the clever way that Willow Rose weaves the past into the present in her books, with explosive consequences.
When the body of a young boy is discovered, Billie Ann recognises him as her nephew and is immediately taken of the case. But when her brother confesses to killing his own son, the detectives are certain he is covering for someone else and only Billie Ann will be able to convince him to tell the truth.
Bille Ann's personal life continues to be turbulent, with her ex-husband questioning her suitability as a parent and my heart really went out to her.
This story is fast paced, twisty and full of raw emotion. Highly recommended!
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Willow Rose and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review
Willow Rose is a prolific author of several series that range across several genre. . Each book is a good, quick read that can be read as stand alones but the series as a whole is better when read in order. Rose brings back all the traits we love in the Billie Ann Wilde books and adds in a murder where the suspects are many and the clues few. I had my personal suspect list and managed to get a few right but Rose is famous for her twists that send readers in the wrong direction.
Another great story with Detective Billie Ann Wilde!
When a string a horrible crimes is committed,, it doesn’t take long to realize the victims are all connected to Detective Wilde. Who is targeting her family and is she next? Detective Wilde knows she’s racing against the clock to save the next victim and solve the case, while also dealing with her ex husband and the custody battle for their three children.
This is a fast paced, action packed thriller. There is some dark subject matter (crimes against children). Chapters are told from different view points, in the past and present. There are multiple characters and a few storylines to follow, though everything ties in by the ending. The author does a great job of telling Billie Ann’s emotions, whether dealing with her career, children, or current relationship. Great quick read as a stand-alone or after reading book 2 of the detective series.
Another scary book in the series. This time Billie Ann's family is being targeted by a deadly killer. The story is told with a "then and now" format with two stories that merge. This is classic Willow Rose story telling and the reader tries to anticipate how the two storylines are related.
But as it becomes clear that someone wants to hurt Billie Ann by targeting her family members, the search for the killer becomes even more urgent.
There is another storyline woven throughout this series - Billie Ann's personal awakening to her sexual orientation. It only adds to the stress in her life.
Willow Rose's lead characters lead busy lives, with their family, personal, and work issues piled on top of their job stresses. They have admirable qualities, almost super human at times, while also being very much like the rest of us.
This is the 3rd book in this series and they are defintely as gripping as the the previous 2.
Billie Ann is called to a scene to discover she knows the victim this in turn makes Billie Ann have to deal with family issues (as if she doesnt have enough) However she is trying to protect those she loves and will do whatever it takes. Another gripping read from Willow Rose looking forward to next. Thank you for advanced copy.
What it must feel like to be called to the scene where a child has been murdered. Then, to find out the child is someone she knows. Detective Billie Ann Wilde knows one thing for sure. She will figure out this nightmare and catch the person that did this..
The twists and turns in the story go on and on!
To sum it up, another great installment in the series. Though, I do have to say, I keep hoping I will warm up to Billie Ann’s character. She makes some really bad decisions in her family life and in her work life.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
