Lee Child gives us a collection of crime novels in a wonderful short story collection.. Each is told from the criminal’s perspective, as he explains how he got away with it, or at least was “safe enough.”
Highly recommended for all mystery and thriller enthusiasts. #SafeEnough #NetGalley #SaltMarshAuthors

I love Lee Child and this was so good! I love the short stories. It made it such a fast and enjoyable read. Thank you for the opportunity to read this arc.

Safe Enough is a collection of short stories from Lee Child. There are several that are very good and some that are just okay. Many have a twist - some are unexpected and some are easily guessed. Child has an unusual style with several because it feels like they just end. He does talk in the intro about trying different things in his short stories.
Overall, an interesting set of short stories from Lee Child.

I saw this book on NetGalley and went a little out of my comfort zone to read it. It’s the first time I’ve read anything by this author, as the whole Jack Reacher thing never interested me…but I’ve never read an anthology that was in any category but horror, so I wanted to give this a try! Below, my thoughts on each story:
The Bodyguard: A bodyguard takes on more than he was expecting…this was very action-based, which isn’t typically my thing. 3/5
The Greatest Trick Of All: This story about a shady hitman (there’s a tautology for you) was more my style; my only wish is that it had been longer. 4/5
Ten Keys: This one was a bit confusing, even after I read it twice. 2.5/5
Safe Enough: A man from the Bronx moves to the suburbs, meets a delicate lady, then things get crazy. 3/5
Normal In Every Way: I liked this quick story about criminal investigations; I also wish this one had been longer, though! 4/5
The .50 Solution: A horse racer has an odd request, that is fulfilled perfectly. 4/5
Public Transportation: This is an interesting conversation between a police officer and a journalist… 3/5
Me & Mr. Rafferty: I liked this story of a “Dexter” type killer and a cop who can’t catch him. The ending was perfect! 4/5
Section 7 (A) (Operational): An operation in Iran is in the works…but we don’t get to find out how it ends? 2/5
Addicted To Sweetness: This was a decent story of a worker stealing from his employer, but the ending made no sense to me. 3/5
The Bone-Headed League: This is an odd story about criminal investigators and Sherlock Holmes, which I’ve never been able to get into. 2/5
I Heard A Romantic Story: An assassination attempt goes awry when plans change. The last line was great, that one had me laughing! 3.5/5
My First Drug Trial: This was good, until it ended just as it was about to get great. Also, the protagonist should know not to use yellow lighters. 4/5
Wet With Rain: A house is purchased for all the wrong reasons… 3/5
The Truth About What Happened: This story about The Manhattan Project started with promise then ended up a dud. 2.5/5
Pierre, Lucian & Me: This story of artwork is definitely my favorite so far. 4/5
New Blank Document: This one was a bit sad, and needed a little more story, in my opinion. 3/5
Shorty And The Briefcase: Another crime story that just fell flat for me. 2.5/5
Dying for a Cigarette: This story of a smoking filmmaker was decent… 3/5
The Snake Eater By The Numbers: This story of a new police officer having to make a decision was pretty decent. 3.5/5
So, it seems pretty obvious that this book just wasn’t for me. The writing didn’t capture me, the stories weren’t my cup of tea, and overall I did not care for this book and its stories. HOWEVER! I did enjoy some of the stories, and If you like crime and action books, maybe with a bit of historical fiction thrown in, you may absolutely love this collection; I think this comes down to how you like your thrillers. 2.5 stars, rounded up because I knew going in that I might not like this one.
(Thank you to Mysterious Press, Lee Child and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on September 3, 2024.)

I enjoyed Lee Child's Jack Reacher series, so I thought I would give his collection of short stories a try. Some of them were good, and some were just okay. It was fun to read in between other books.
I was disappointed in the ARC ebook since it was hard to distinguish one story from another. There were no significant breaks and there was no title for each story.

This is very different than the author's previous books. The stories are "manly" and remind me of The Spencer Books by Robert Parker. The stories make me think of Columbo, Robert Urich and Tom Selleck. This was not my favorite of the author's work. Still, I felt very honored to receive a digital ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. Lee Child is one of my top 10 favorite writers EVER. This review is entirely my own opinion.

This is a good collection of short stories written by Lee Child. An easy and quick read, this collection has several surprises for the reader. I enjoyed it.

"Safe Enough" by Lee Child is a quick, enjoyable 4-star read. The book is made up of 20 short stories, each with a surprise twist at the end. While some twists were easy to anticipate, others were delightful surprises. I enjoyed most of the stories and found them well-written; a few were so captivating that I wished they were longer, perhaps expanded into novellas. However, there were a handful that I found boring and didn't enjoy as much. If you're hoping for a Reacher story, I'm sorry to disappoint you—there isn't one. Overall, if you like Lee Child and are a fan of short stories, you should give this book a read.
Thanks to Penzler Publishers, Lee Child, and NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this ARC and share my honest review.

I found the stories too short to keep me interested . Would recommend for ppl that like short stories and want a chance in pace .
Thank you Penzler publishers and NetGalley for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review

An interesting collection of stories that may be short but pack a lot of twists and firepower. Lee Child is a master at the craft and this collection proves it.

It can be challenging to critique short stories, but I can say that they were incredibly engaging and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The suspense and tension were masterfully crafted, making each moment compelling and memorable.

I received an ARC through "NetGalley" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I have read many of the Jack Reacher stories by this author and was looking forward to reading this book. I wasn't sure what to expect, but as I read many of the stories, they were enjoyable. A few of them did not provide the closure I was used to. Overall, the stories kept my interest and I think people will enjoy this book.

Compared to the other books from Lee Child (and by that I mean mostly Jack Reacher series) I'm used to, this one was very different. The complete collection of short stories in this anthology does not include Jack Reacher, the most well-known character created by Lee Child.
I enjoyed the idea of short stories, and each of them has an intriguing theme. However, I believe that a few of them were simply too short. If a little more was added, making them into novellas, they might be better. It's also evident that some were written some time ago when the author was still perfecting his writing skill.
Although it lacked the thrilling action of the other books in his series, it was still an intriguing read with moments of tension, murder, and mystery. It might be good choice for fans of short stories or someone looking for entertaining quick read.

This is not what I expected. The stories are interesting and engaging, but mostly feel half-baked, as though they're waiting for the details to get filled in. Some of the people in the stories are mean, but Reacher's world has a lot of mean people. If you're wanting to get your Reacher fix between novels, you could do worse than this collection of short stories. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

Safe Enough by Lee Child is an assortment of short crime fiction stories. While some of them captured my attention, others read like book summaries. For example, a few did not flesh out characters, settings, etc. Secondly, in some of the novelettes I wanted to visualize the story more.
“Ten Keys” with Octavian has a nice spin to it. Very fast dialogue that makes up for the first story which I believe didn’t have a single set of double quotes. I also liked “Shorty and the Briefcase” and oddly found the beginning to have a comical element, even though Shorty got shot lol.
I received this book through Net Galley and was not required to give a positive review.

I didn’t realize this was a review of previous books and not fiction. I did not finish this book. This is not my type of read.

Imagine Reacher sitting down over coffee (in a diner of course) telling you stories of his experiences. The tone of the stories are as if they are told by Reacher. Many of them have a little twist that you don't expect but cause you to kind of smile when you realize what happened.

Not surprisingly, Lee Child knocks it out of the park again with this collection of short stories. I flew through this book in a day. I could not put it down!! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

This collection of stories is, by no surprise, quite masculine and violent. From the creator of Jack Reacher, this makes sense. Although I wouldn't exactly claim to be very interested in these types of stories, I found that each was compelling in their own right--some more so than others.

Thank you Penzler Publishers/Mysterious Press for the ARC!
If you’re a fan of Lee Child, then you’ll definitely want to pick this collection of short stories up! This was a great look into Child’s writing repertoire that showcased a variety of time periods, environments and story ideas. This was the perfect sampler of Child’s writing, or a great nugget to have while waiting for his next novel!
