A cookbook full of decadent recipes is the perfect thing to attract a home baker. This might not be the first cookbook I reach for when I want to bake. It is exactly what I will reach for when I want a bit of a challenge with wow results.
If you’re a fan of a weekend baking project, this cookbook is absolutely for you. Every single recipe in here looks decadent and craveable and utterly delicious, and I wish I could try each and every one of them! Unfortunately with a toddler running around my baking project days are on hiatus for now, but this is definitely a cookbook I’d love to try to bake through someday!
I loved that there were plenty of pictures. I hate when I buy a cookbook that ends up only have a couple of pictures because I like to be able to see what the finished product may look like. I can't wait to try some of these recipes out.
Thank you NetGalley, Hachette Book Group and George Hepher for this ARC of Rebel Bakes. This cookbook has some fun and adventurous recipes that George Hepher has developed. Every recipe sounds delicious and the pictures show how beautiful they are. If you want to serve unique desserts, this cookbook is for you.
Wowza!!! Talk about the ultimate baking cookbook!!! Every recipe is doable. Will it look like the picture the first time out if you are a home baker? Probably not. Doesn’t mean you won’t be able to make it and enjoy it.
What a fun read! As an adventurous eater who has (mostly) lost my sweet tooth, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I salivated through every page (good thing I was reading electronically). Photos are gorgeous, Chef George gives lots of options for how to use what we have and to make the bakes our own. Every now and then a hankering for sweets comes over me and you can bet that I will be making the Maple Syrup + Bacon Cake! Already can tell it will be delicious from his recipe and description, plus he gives a hint on how to give it even more maple and bacony goodness! Huge thumbs up!!!!
I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book.
These bakes are the kinds of things you would see on the Great British Bake-Off. Absolutely gorgeous, slightly complicated but still achievable, and could go very wrong in the hands of an armature. Being said amateur aside, I will definitely be trying out a couple of these recipes this summer.
Rebel Bakes focuses on making delicious and beautiful sweet treats. The cookbook is very versatile for the new bakers to more experienced home bakers wanting to try new fun flavors.
The Sections are
Before You Get Started
Back to the Basics (caramel sauces and more)
Tin it to Win it (bakes in a tray)
Hob Jobs (refrigerated, mostly no bake tray goodies)
Cookies + Tarts
After-Dinner Sinners
Cake It ’Til Yo Make It
Each recipe has a little blurb about the recipe (you really get a sense of the fun nature of the author), prep time, servings/ quantity, ingredients (in grams and ounces), directions, and tips. The recipes are accompanied by beautiful pictures of the sweets.
I will say that some ingredients will be harder to come across for example liquid glucose.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book starts out like a lot with a description of the essential tools needed for baking. These are pretty standard. They do list a Bain-Marie which is what we call a double boiler. So you have to read the description to make sure you understand what they are talking about. There's descriptions of traditional ingredients that you use in baking like butter and eggs. There are some basic instructions for classic things like caramel and ganache. The bars look delicious and some recipes have interesting names like pornstar martini cheesecake blondies. You don't find that in every cookbook. Some of these recipes are worthy of the Food Network Baking competitions. I love all the pictures. I tend to like cookbooks that have pictures more than ones that don't. These recipes are next level and will elevate your baking. Make sure you have plenty of time before you start they seem a little complicated.
With so many amazing recipes, it’s difficult to choose which one I’ll try first. The pictures were mouthwatering. I did enjoy the measurements being in ounces and grams. I thought the tips at the end of each recipe were very useful in improving my baking skills.
With a chapter called: After-Dinner Sinners, I fell in love with this cookbook immediately! There are lots of delicious and unique recipes like Strawberry + Champagne Roll. 😋 The last chapter is filled with recipes and tips for making showstopper cakes. If you ever wanted to learn how to bake like a pro, this cookbook is for you!
Lots of fun baking recipes.! I will say, if you do not like chocolate, this may not be the best book for you, as if felt like the majority (over half) of the recipes had chocolate included in some way. This is also a book from the UK, so there are British terms. Measurements are given in both grams and ounces.
The recipes are in chapters: Back to Basics (components); Tin It To Win It (brownies and bars); Hob Job (seems like candy and candy inspired); Cookies & Tarts; After Dinner Sinners (fancy desserts); and Cake It 'Til You Make It (huge layer cakes).
As the chapter titles and photos show, this book is about having fun. There were photos with almost every recipe, which I appreciated especially because some of the items were more British standards. I do think some of the recipes are probably for more advanced bakers, either because of complexity or number of components to get to the finished dessert.
“Rebel Bakes” offers beautiful dessert recipes and photography, although I wouldn’t say all of the recipes are entirely approachable. Many involve lots of steps and toppings, and if you are against food dyes there are several layer cakes that utilize lots of food coloring. Nevertheless, this was a unique dessert book that I enjoyed reading.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for and advance copy of this book!
If you’re looking for a fun and unique baking book, you’ll want to pick up Rebel Bakes: 80+ Deliciously Creative Cakes, Bakes and Treats For Every Occasion , by George Hepher, owner of George’s Bakery, an online site. This cookbook makes it obvious that Hepher is passionate about the d
desserts he has created, and once looking at the book, most readers will see why.
The cookbook includes dozens of recipes any baker will want to make. Hepher’s writing style is easy and forthcoming, so the book is not only inspiring, but fun to curl up and read. However, the recipes are so mouthwatering, most will want to immediately start baking. The first part of the cookbook includes several basic recipes, such as a perfect Ganache and Caramel. Then the recipes for amazing bakes follows. There is definitely a British flavor to this cookbook, although the recipes aren’t the classics that most of us are familiar with.
The author’s imagination in creating his recipes takes bakers out of the box. Most of the recipes are presented with beautiful, professional photographs of the finished product. The instructions are in the traditional form, with comments at the beginning, followed by a list of ingredients and then step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow. The author makes it so that any baker, beginning to advanced can make picture-perfect creations that will be ooed and awed over.
All told, this is a fun cookbook for anyone who likes to bake unique, mouthwatering dishes. Highly Recommended.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
This cookbook is one of the fun reads I have had this year and was thoroughly enjoyed!
It is well-organized and well laid-out with fun names and beautiful photos of each recipe. I really enjoyed looking at names first and trying to guess what the end would be. Such cute fun names! Ingredients are easy to find if you don't have already and measurements are in grams/ounces which leads to successful bakes. It is packed with easy, fun, and unique recipes, various level of recipes for every occasions, tips and commentaries are written in very "George" way. SO MANY recipes I want to bake and you'll want to run to kitchen and start baking! Can't wait to have the actual copy of it and share with close friends and family! Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys baking.
Fun, unique recipes for treats that hit all the sugar buttons! Beautiful pictures, they practically leap off the page.
Thank you Netgalley and Hachette Book Group | Greenfinch for the ARC!
Oh, how I want to be the baker this book encourages me to be!
Page after page of Indulgent desserts with show-stopping presentation in full color photos worthy of framing. But proceed with caution when serving these scrumptious desserts, after the first forkful, your guests will fill your social calendar with invites and requests for you to bring dessert!
Before the fame goes to your head, I will note that recipes measurements are presented in grams/ounces. This may cause a bit of hesitancy in my fellow American casual bakers. Also, some ingredients may not already be on hand in your pantry so impulse baking is not encouraged. That being said, these delicious cakes and cookies are well worth the additional time of converting recipes and acquiring the specialized ingredients.
*I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Much love to NetGalley, the book's publisher and of course the author for this gracious opportunity!
This cookbook unfortunately isn’t for me. I live in the US and a lot of the ingredients aren’t readily available here. There is a conversion chapter, but that is still more steps than I prefer while baking.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Rebel Bakes.
I'm not on social media so I wasn't familiar with the author.
It was the mouthwatering photo that caught my eye! And the title.
This is an honest, no holds barred cookbook. If you're watching your calories and carb count, look away!
The author pulls no punches here.
Every decadent recipe is laden with chocolate, ooey-gooey caramel, cookies, and more!
I love just going in all out, pulling out all the stops and making no excuses to make and eat a gorgeous, caloric laden cake. Sometimes, you just need to.
Some of the recipes are caramel heavy, which isn't my favorite flavor, but apparently is the author's.
As you peruse the recipes, they get more and more complicated and labor intensive as you go on.
I wish the photos were bigger but maybe they don't translate well on a Kindle.
The names of the recipes are unique and eye-catching. Now if only I had someone to make them for me!
Layered and substantial....
This is for the fearless baker, who enjoys sturdy, substantial and layered treats. Distinctive layers, pronounced layers. These treats are serious bars, over the top cakes with thick frosting.
All things sturdy and thickly layered.
Indulgence.
Great photos.
Recommend.
