I liked it enough, even though I wasn't super invested in the romance--which, actually, I think is sort of fun about this series. The love interests are definitely there as support, but the friendships are what are the strongest relationships. And I will say, I was actually surprised in how this went, there was a small twist that I thought would set up book three and actually did not!

Book 2 in the Starfall series - swoony romance and more magical mystery take place in this cozy witch romantasy. Need book #3!!

The Wilton family is back and still trying to break the curse that has been set against them.

Caroline feels stuck, literally. Stuck to the island due to the curse that keeps them on it or they will die. The same stupid curse that kept her from having the life she wishes she could have had with Ben. Then Ben returns, freshly divorced with two kids in tow. Is this a second chance?

In an ongoing effort to find the secret to the curse she and her coven sisters work together to stave off the Wellings and their dark magic that threatens them and Shadow Manor.

Molly Harper is always an entertaining and enjoyable read!

Canceled halfway through

“Big Witch Energy” by Molly Harper is a second chance story full of witches, magic and evil spirits. This is Caroline and Ben's story.

Apparently Caroline and Ben's story is the second volume in a series. I didn't know that beforehand. But that explains why I couldn't quite make sense of some of the events. I would advise you to read the first volume first.

But that wasn't the main reason why I abandoned “Big Witch Energy”. It was very difficult for me to get into the story. And to be honest, I didn't manage it either.

I didn't become a fan of Ben. His thought processes were sometimes a bit hypocritical for me a la “She mustn't fall in love, but I had a wife and two children with her” for me that didn't fit the vibe of the story.

I feel a bit sorry for Caroline. She simply does everything for her family and is far too good-natured towards them.

On the other hand, I thought Ben's children were actually quite cool as secondary characters.

Unfortunately, the spark was missing for me, both in the plot and with the protagonists.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley Germany for providing me with an ARC.

While I think it would have been wise (and more enjoyable) for me to have read the first in the series, it was not completely necessary. I enjoyed the witchy second chance romance set in the small town. The close-knit coven formed in the first Starfall Point added on some teens and other newcomers that blended well and made the story fun and extra exciting.

I have never read anything by this author, but I will be looking out for other books they write in the future. I really enjoyed the story as well as the pacing of the story.

A really fun instalment in this universe by Molly Harper. There's magic, witches and just a little bit of mayhem, making it the perfect Halloween read... or anytime read, if you love a fun paranormal romance.

This book is part of the series and I'd really recommend reading them in order as there is overlapping between our characters as the female MC's are all a group of best friends.

I love Molly Harper she can really create a wonderful read to get lost into. Her characters are fun complex engaging. I love the island setting, this is the story about second chances and who doesn't love another go around.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you’re looking for a cozy, magical read to ease you into the autumn season, Big Witch Energy by Molly Harper is a delightful pick!! The story follows Caroline Wilton, a witch with her hands full running her family’s bar in the charming town of Starfall Point while also keeping the local ghostly population in check. Caroline’s world takes an unexpected turn when Ben Hoult, the one who got away and now a single dad, reappears in her life. As they reconnect, their bond deepens, and they join forces to solve a centuries-old murder while contending with angry spirits and their own lingering emotions.

Harper crafts a tale that’s lighthearted and brimming with autumnal charm. The setting is perfect for fans of small-town stories infused with paranormal elements and a touch of romance. The blend of ghosts, witchcraft, and community shenanigans gives the story a whimsical flair that’s hard to resist!

While the romance between Caroline and Ben is sweet and engaging, it sometimes feels a bit surface level, lacking the depth that might make it truly unforgettable. However, the story more than makes up for this with its fun plot and warm, witchy atmosphere.

Overall, Big Witch Energy is a fluffy, enjoyable romp filled with magic, mischief, and lighthearted fun. If you’re looking for a book that embraces the cozy spirit of autumn with a touch of supernatural intrigue, this one’s for you—even if it might not linger in your memory for long after you turn the last page.

This cute fall read is perfect for paranormal romance lovers. It is part of a series, and I highly recommend reading the first book so it makes sense! I find this series heavy on the magical plot and lighter on the romance, so if you're looking for something super swoony, this probably isn't for you.

Big Witch Energy is the perfect autumnal read - full of magic, humour, and heart. Molly Harper has woven a delightful tale of second chances, sisterhood, and mystery that’s ideal for cozy nights. The camaraderie between the coven members is a highlight, and Ben’s kids, Josh and Mina, bring extra warmth and fun to the story.

Despite this being part of a series, I had no trouble following the plot without reading the previous book, and I’m now excited to dive into the rest of the series. While Caroline and Ben’s romance is sweet, the themes of family, friendship, and teamwork are what really stand out. The mystery of the Wilton curse and the island’s ghostly legend adds just the right amount of intrigue.

This feel-good paranormal read is a great choice for fall, with its blend of whimsy, magic, and heartfelt moments.

I loved Molly Harper's vampire series, so I was excited to try her newest book series. I was not disappointed. Caroline and Ben were such a fun couple, and I loved all the family and friends. So if you are looking for a fluffy romantasy, this is the perfect book. I give this book a solid 3.5/5 stars.

This was a pleasant autumnal read, I enjoyed all the coven shenanigans and am curious to see how the bigger story arch concludes in the next book. However, the pacing felt a bit off towards the end: while the story of the curse was interesting, it was presented as a too-convenient info dump and just amounted to pure luck, rather than our witches unravelling Caroline's family history on their own. The final stand-off was also a bit underwhelming. The premise is intriguing though, so I would still recommend as a relaxing seasonal read.

This isn't bad at all it's just not a romance. They didn't interact enough or even have enough conversations for it to be believable. Also her pov was kind of hard to get into because of all the different ghost voices.

I received an arc through netgalley.

Caroline Wilton is stuck in Starfall Point and she’s mad about it. She’s inherited the family home and the ability to speak with ghosts, but every time a Wilton has left the island in the past, they soon meet a tragic end. Her high school sweetheart Ben went off to college while she stayed. Now, Ben is back with 2 teenagers and he wants another chance with Caroline. His kids meddle in her business, and Ben learns about the family’s abilities.
She and her other witchy relatives go through their archives to find a solution so she can go off island, and it might be all because of one cranky ghost. Can Caroline and Ben get their HEA?

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Molly Harper brings her signature snark and strong female characters to the forefront with the second entry into the Starfall Point series. This entry focuses on Caroline and her attempt to understand and possibly break the curse that prevents any of her family from leaving their island home. Caroline's day to day time is taken up with helping to keep the family business afloat despite the odds and trying to learn more about her and her coven's new abilities but her nights are taken up by ex-boyfriend Ben. Recently divorced, Ben and his two teen children come back to the island and are drawn into Caroline's world. Can she forgive Ben for doing the one thing she can' t do?

A fun and light read that did deal with larger issues such as dysfunctional families, found families and familial burdens.

This book revolves around a late thirty-something witch that is responsible with keeping the local ghosts in check when her high school sweetheart returns after many years away. "Big Witch Energy" continues the magical tale on Starfall Point, centering on Caroline, an island resident bound by a family curse that prevents her from leaving. Caroline, who stayed to work at her family's bar instead of attending college, reconnects with her high school love, Ben, when he returns to the island with his children after nearly 20 years. Their rekindled romance is sweet, though they must confront past issues.

Ben's children quickly embrace Caroline and the magic of Shadow House, despite sometimes seeming overly mature. The book deepens the lore of Shadow House, adding layers to its mystery while drawing the characters closer together. Ben’s early discovery of the island’s supernatural elements, especially with his children's potential abilities, is a welcome development. Additionally, Edison from the first book finds a new "mundane bro" in Ben to discuss the island's magic.
