This was a quick escape read. More suited for YA.
Many thanks to Do Art and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I think this story would have benefited if the main characters were older. New Adult maybe? I just couldn't get into the romance because I didn't connect with the characters inn any way.
It's interesting to write an honest but unfortunately not very positive review about a book that's about a blogger nearly ruining a band's career by writing very critical reviews. I'm giving this book two stars because some writing is not bad, even if big parts of the book read like diary entries with little or no dialog. Also, while the main character, Kristen, is undoubtedly a self-absorbed, lacking common sense 15-year-old, I was like that when I was that age. We can't expect 15-year-olds to be all mature and put together. On another hand, there are just too many really odd scenes that are just too unbelievable to be taken seriously - falling into someone's lap, tangling into wires, new employees not even asking about an hourly wage, and so on. I do think the writers have potential, but Stargazing from Nowhere reads a bit like stories written by teenagers on FanFiction.
This is a good book in my opinion but not my cup of tea. Others might enjoy reading this one though.
Of course, we all know social media can get us into trouble. In this case, a blogger writes some terrible things about a rockstar, then she meets him and her world gets flipped. It's so easy to sit behind your keyboard and say whatever, bash whomever, but it's an entirely different story once you've met the one you're trashing. It's even worse when you fall for him and have to decide whether or not to fess up.
This was a fun read. I laughed quite a bit. And the story itself was pretty intriguing and full of warnings we can actually use in real life when dealing with any social media platforms. Would definitely recommend, especially to teens and those new to using social media or in a place of influence.
Having read so many negative reviews about this book, I had mixed feelings about it. But then, as I read it, I actually liked it. That was a surprise for me to since I usually don't enjoy reading about bands or singers in books. The fame is what bothers me most of it. However, Kristen and Michael were very sweet characters, which is why I kept on reading. I'm sad too few people seemed to have enjoyed this book.
