I thought everyone had intrusive thoughts?!
I love when Hayley’s video pop up on my TikTok FYP. Overall I enjoyed this book. I loved the audio version as Hayley Morris read it! This was a breath of fresh air and honestly, just made this anxious girly, feel seen.

I discovered Hayley Morris on Instagram a few years ago and instantly resonated with her posts. As soon as I learned she was releasing a book, I knew I had to get it. I read the book and loved it. Her stories were hilarious, heartwarming, and completely relatable. When I came across the audiobook and saw it was narrated by Hayley, I immediately wanted to listen. Her writing style is informal and casual, so hearing the narration felt like I was listening to a friend tell a story. I’ve recommended this book to so many of my friends and those who have read it, enjoyed it as well!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advance audiobook of Me vs. Brain.
I always enjoy when memoirs and non-fiction books are read by the author. The author narrating adds a personalized element to the book that I appreciate. This book really hit home for me with a recent anxiety diagnosis. Hayley Morris did a fabulous job discussing difficult topics in a humorous way. Thank you, Hayley for sharing your journey. Your words made me feel less alone and had me laughing out loud.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook copy.
I love audiobooks narrated by the author, as I feel the author portrays their work in the way intended. Hayley Morris is humorous and reading about the intrusive thoughts and ‘battle with the brain’ she has experienced was refreshing and helps normalize the sometimes too-loud internal voice. Hearing about her journey with grief, her voice full of emotion, was very tender and touching.

This one was rough. I did not think it would be so morbid. I also unfortunately did not find the stories humorous as expected.

Loved the audio. Great take on anxiety. She was funny and very relatable. Quick fun read for summer.

I just finished reading “Me vs. Brain” by the amazing Hayley Morris, and let me tell you, it’s an absolute gem! From the moment I started this book, I felt like I was chatting with a close friend who just gets it. Hayley’s hilarious anecdotes and candid storytelling had me nodding along in agreement the whole way through.
Seriously, who hasn’t had those moments of overthinking every little thing? Whether it’s imaginary arguments in the shower or hiding your unmentionables from the plumber, (I literally just did this after very thing). Hayley tackles it all with humor and heart.
One thing that really struck me is how Hayley manages to make you feel like you’re not alone. Reading her book, I found myself thinking, “Wait, I’m not the only one who thinks like this?” It’s like she’s inside your head, shining a light on those moments of self-doubt and anxiety we all experience.
But what I love most about “Me vs. Brain” is that it’s not just about dwelling on the negatives. Hayley’s message of finding humor in our quirks and embracing our imperfections is so refreshing. It’s a reminder that it’s okay to laugh at ourselves and that we’re all just doing the best we can.
If you’re looking for a hilarious and relatable read that’ll make you feel seen, “Me vs. Brain” is definitely the book for you. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Let me preface this review by saying I am not a regular watcher of Hayley's content. I see her videos once in a while, and I picked this book due to the title "An Overthinker's Guide to Life." As someone who is also diagnosed with generalized anxiety, I was expecting something of a mix between memoir and self-help—maybe even squeezing in some psychology in there. However, I would say this book is strictly a collection of anecdotes from the author's life. Half memoir, half comedy skit, it's a mix of those late-night stories you tell with your close friends and tiktok skits written out.
Lately, I have seen so many memoir-esque books with a title akin to "A _____'s Guide to _______." Which causes confusion and many lower ratings due to the confusion, and I do hope that this book does not have the same issues. Though it did not meet my own expectations, I tried to rate it according to what it was trying to accomplish. 3 stars for me is just average—not bad, not fantastic. Hayley's narration was wonderful, and the effects she puts in, the multiple voices, it shows how hard she works on her content itself. In parts where I was dragging due to the written content, her voice was able to keep me engaged. The main reason for my rating is just the actual content. Personally, I am not big on body humor; poop, blood, farts—all of that just isn't my jam. Hayley really does like a good poop joke, from what I have read. I think my chapter is definitely "Brain vs. Puberty" with her "totally real first period" story. I absolutely laughed aloud in a Starbucks for that one. Mainly because I think we have all been there, so badly wanting to fit in that you will do something so cringeworthy it haunts you in your sleep 20 years later. Those are the stories I felt the most invested in when they were truly relatable. I think my least favorite chapter was the "Sex Dream" one. This definitely felt like a tiktok skit written out in much longer form. I don't know how to describe the feelings I had, but all I could think was, "Why are you telling me this?". To use a TikTok audio, "It's funny, but not funny HaHa... funny weird.". Besides those two standout moments, the rest of the audiobook was fine. Story times with a friend, with little bits in between. If I had been a fan of Hayley, I think I would have enjoyed this a bit more (obviously), but coming in knowing basically nothing about her before just makes the experience average for me.
If I were to recommend this book, you would either need to be a fan of hers or like her style of humor. You won't get much self-help, but overthinking is definitely present in this entire book. Like the ranting and ravings of a mad scientist who likes to dress up as a vulva for the internet. It's a quick listen; Hayley does a fantastic narration job, and you might get a good giggle out of it.

Me vs. Brain was a great listen but almost felt like 2 books. The first half was fun and quirky, reflecting on the author’s struggles with anxiety and intrusive thoughts. The second half was much deeper and dealt with the author’s loss of her father to dementia. I get the relation between her brain problems and her father's, but the transition was abrupt. Overall well done though.

This was a nice refreshing read. As an overthinker myself, I genuinely question if other people are other thinkers as well. Now I know they for sure are and I am not alone.

In this audiobook, Hayley balances the authenticity and vulnerability necessary for a poignant memoir with her trademark irreverent humor. She opens up about anxiety and intrusive thoughts that many have but few discuss in a relatable and humorous manner. I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Hayley’s online presence, as well as anyone who has ever thought, “I must be the only one,” because Hayley will assure you that you’re not.

I was very excited about this one because I love Hayley Morris and I love material read by the authors. I definitely enjoyed parts of this book and Hayley was a great narrator. Everyone can relate to the sometimes excruciating awkwardness of just trying to get through the day and the weird things that happen. I also really enjoyed glimpses of her life and some truly vulnerable stories. I think the pacing might be the main problem, or maybe the inconsistent tone? The beginning was funny stories and observations about being awkward featuring interjections from "Brain' and such. The middle is a bit hard to pinpoint and gets really wacky with strange dreams etc. Honestly the sound for this part was so annoying and way louder than the dialog - one dream with a squawking bird was so unbearable I had to skip to the end. The end of the book had a really touching story about her father. I think that if there was at least one other serious story then the pacing would have felt more predictable. Because ultimately the story was really nice but it just dropped in at the end kind of unexpectedly given the tone of the rest of the book. Overall this is a fairly quick enjoyable read. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book is largely a memoir, told in themed chapters. This means it is has no particular time-line, which is confusing and unsatisfying. Some stories cover the same ground, but give different explanations for the same actions, some leap around in time. Some of the topics are quite serious, meaningful, and moving but Hayley does have a talent to bring everything back to poo. I think she is trying to be irreverent, but she comes across as scatty. She also sounds neurotic and poorly organised and very dramatic.
I listened to this read by Hayley and she was the prefect narrator for her own book. She does the voices of "brain" "gut" etc and it seems like book is ideal as an audiobook, rather than a paperbook.
The conceit of "me vs brain" come from Hayley's very successful, very amusing instagram reels, but it doesn't really work in the long form.

As someone who has spent far too long wondering if my intrusive thoughts meant I was losing my mind, I absolutely loved this book! I’ve followed Hayley Morris on TikTok for quite a while now, so when I saw she had an audiobook out, I was very interested. By the time I had finished, I was thrilled to discover that the book was JUST as funny as her videos. Her humor shines through perfectly, and so many of the stories feel relatable. I laughed out loud multiple times and often felt relief that I was not alone in my anxieties. Morris has a gift for being vulnerable while also being hilarious.
I will say this didn’t feel like a ‘guide to life’. Instead, it felt more like a memoir full of personal anecdotes. I didn’t mind that at all though! In fact, I prefer a memoir to a self-help book. However, if someone is expecting an actual guide, they might be a little disappointed.
If you’re familiar with her comedy, this is a must-listen. If you’re unfamiliar with her comedy but love to laugh, this is probably still a must-listen!

Oh my gosh this is laugh out loud funny but also so relatable for me as an anxious person. Loved listening to the author read her own novel for the audiobooks. I love watching Hayley's videos on social media and this was just a more in depth.

HAHA. Hayley Morris is hilarious and if you are not following her on Instagram you absolutely should be. This book was an absolute delight. I learned absolutely nothing but laughed the whole way through.

Oh my goodness this book had me cracking up! If you're a fan of Hayley Morris or if you've seen her videos on TikTok, this book needs to land on your TBR. I love that this wasn't a self help book, but just a book of how we all have those darn intrusive thoughts and how sometimes they tend to control 'Brain'. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and highly recommend the audiobook version!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook!

Me vs Brain is a memoir (with a sprinkle of self-help) book full of funny and relatable stories. Marketed as "An Overthinker's Guide to Life", I knew this would be up my alley as someone who is overthinking every single thing 24/7. I loved Hayley's humor and how candid she is with even the most embarrassing moments. Not all of the chapters were relatable to me personally, but they were entertaining.
The narration is performed by the author, and I enjoyed her accent and the sound effects/different voices she used throughout the performance. I highly recommend the audio version over print (or both).
I received an ALC from Dreamscape Media via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve seen a lot of Hayley’s videos on TikTok and they’ve given me a good laugh. I have to honestly say this audiobook is exactly what I’d expect from her. All of her different “characters” from her videos come up in the audiobook and it brings some great humor to some otherwise serious moments. Intrusive thoughts, imposter syndrome, just being a girl and so much more is covered in this book and I think Hayley brings a refreshing perspective. She’s not a doctor or some intense researcher but I actually really appreciated that. She brings the perspective of ordinary people dealing with life. I lost count of the number of times when I was listening to this and was like “omgosh my brain does that too”. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I really enjoyed the audiobook and would recommend it.
Thank you NetGalley, Halyey Morris and Dreamscape Audio for an ARC and the opportunity to share my honest opinions.

I’ve been a fan of Hayley’s TikTok/Instagram skits for quite a while now so I may be a bit biased, but I LOVED her book! Even better-hearing her narrate the audiobook from brain to heart to uterus, and everything in-between. For any of my fellow anxiety folks and over thinkers, so much of what’s said in here is spot on, yet I still found myself cracking up. Hayley also touches on the impact of grief and parent loss, which was also so accurate to the daily thought process and experience. While listening to this, I kept thinking, “yep so true…wait is Hayley in *my* brain??”
I really hope she continues to write because this was so fun and a definite repeat read in the near future!
