I enjoyed this book
Really enjoyed the story line.
It is a book that i would recommend if you like a fast past unexpected romance
This was so addictive!!!!!!
When I first saw the cover I was not with any exceptation but the blurb was amazing and that's why I give it a chance.
And I am so glad I did it!! What an amazing story and a big rollercoaster. I loved this couple so much and the banter?? AMAZING.
I ran late in reading this because I initially received an arc but ended up listening to he great audiobook-Will Watts!-and that was auditory magic. But a really long, drawn out bit of magic. I wish it was shorter because the length didn’t really contribute to the building of character or their emotional growth.. that said, many chuckles throughout and the audiobook was such a fantastic way to live through the story.
This was a wild, ridiculous book and I loved it!! Eve is cheated on by her fiancé and sticks it to him at the alter, we loved to see it, she then hops in the car of none other then her ex-fiancé's nemesis! Oliver is hot, rich, intelligent, and a secret softy, everything we want in a man! They have a fun night together and then she leaves him in the morning wanting more, so what else is there to do but blackmailing her into a fake relationship so they can take down her ex-fiancé! This book went into so many directions it was crazy, but it absolutely slapped and I ate it up!! 10/10 recommend!
This was a great read but VERY open door romance.
I loved Eve as a character - animal loving, loyal, and a go-getter. I also found a great connection in reading about a female lead that has anger instead of a crying reaction to large emotional situations. I loved how passionate she got over her life and that she knew her own life took precedent over what could be just a temporary relationship. I also love that she recognized she never gave Oliver any chance to explain things, but she wasn’t running back to him just for the off chance he had a good explanation. I really enjoyed her wit and humor, the continuous banter.
I had a few issues with Oliver’s more corrupt side and there were moments he was too selfish and then suddenly self deprecating that didn’t really seem to fit well together. The large self absorption and general disregard for hurting others (Eve) was also a little difficult to stomach. I typically enjoy a light/dark male character who also has a strong moral code to balance it out. I was occasionally confused if he could really be a plausible match for a strong (and good) lead like Eve when he was more dark than light.
The ending felt pretty abrupt and their resolving conversation in the end felt like it lacked substance in exchange for an open door scene. Following that I really feel like it was such a fast and disregarded wrap up to a slow paced (but also adrenaline pumping) book.
I enjoyed the read and the unique personalities were a breath of fresh air. I would like to read some other books from this author! So it was worth the read, and recommendation overall.
This book was provided freely in exchange for a review with the NetGalley program. Thank you to NetGalley and Donna Alam!
He's no Romeo.
Not in or out of black jeans...
Oliver is ruthless and not above playing dirty to get his way.
Eve/Evie is a runaway bride after discovering her fiancé is a cheater. She falls right into Oliver's trap.
Fun, steamy, enemies to lovers, blackmail?
Recommend.
Hilarious anti-hero romance!
Oliver is no one's Romeo, and he refuses to play hero for anyone. When Evelyn is quite literally dropped in his lap, he's not above taking full advantage of the situation - especially when he realizes who she just left at the altar. He's certainly not above using any means necessary, even blackmail, to keep her in service of his very personal revenge plot.
The opening scene was hands-down one of the best I've ever read. Rip-roaringly funny even while being a little bit heartbreaking, it instantly shows us who Evelyn is and to what extent she'll go to take her destiny into her own hands. I almost want to feel sorry for Mitch, except he deserved it all.
As we see her pitted against Oliver in a love/hate relationship, it's only Oliver's questionable lack of ethics that keep us from feeling sorry for him when he cannot quite maintain the control he so desperately needs. Evelyn is so much more than he gave her credit for, and I absolutely loved every bit of it.
The writing here is exquisite, with insightful one-liners sprinkled throughout, wondrously inventive banter, characters that you'll remember forever, and a love story that somehow breaks through all their self-imposed obstacles to deliver a triumphant HEA.
This is one of the best contemporary romances I've ever read. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I really enjoyed this story!
I found that the story was well written and it was certainly a book that had me hooked.
It was a slow burn romance that was romantic and sexy.
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!
No Romeo offers an exciting premise filled with popular tropes. There's a runaway bride, a cheating fiancé, a fake relationship, forced closeness, a billionaire MMC, and a morally grey MMC, among other things. I found myself chuckling throughout the story. Yet, there were equally irritating moments that left me questioning both character's reasons for spurning the other. As the story went on, I failed to understand Eve's (FMC) motivations for rejecting Oliver (MMC). Moreover, the dialogue between characters sometimes lacked clarity, making it difficult to distinguish who was speaking. Additionally, I felt the repetition of Oliver not being a Romeo was unnecessary. Despite these criticisms, I don't believe No Romeo is a bad book or story. It maintained my interest throughout.
Oliver and Eve have an unexpected first meeting. I love how they just seem to roll with it. I love the level of detail we get in this story. I love how Eve is true to herself. I love her wit and her snark and her sassiness. I love how she mostly is not afraid to live her life out loud. I love how she navigates through her circumstances both alone and with Oliver. I love how they each bring out the best in the other. Oliver thinks he is in this just to get back at Mitchell. I love how Oliver thinks he is such a big, bad, hard and ruthless businessman and how he thinks he is not emotional and not falling. Oh he falls, he falls fast, he falls hard and he falls first in my opinion. I love Lucy, Oliver's sister. The writing is well.done and the story is fully developed with strong characters. 4.5 Stars
I've devoured plenty of Donna Alam's books, and "No Romeo" kept that streak going strong!
Picture this: Eve, our fierce leading lady, is in the middle of making a grand escape from her own wedding—yes, you read that right! Turns out her dirtbag ex cheated on her with none other than her maid of honor! Enter Oliver, a handsome stranger who just happens to be in the right place at the right time. And as fate would have it, he’s also Eve’s ex’s sworn enemy. Talk about a plot twist! Oliver can’t resist the chance for some sweet, sweet revenge, so he blackmails Eve into a fake relationship. Cue the fireworks! He's arrogant, demanding, and annoyingly irresistible, while Eve is a force to be reckoned with—knowing her worth and ready to walk away from anyone who doesn’t see it. Together, they’re a sizzling mix of chemistry and drama. But the real question is: can they move past the secrets and betrayals to find the love that’s simmering underneath?
I’m thrilled this book kicks off a new series, *My Kind of Hero,* and you can bet I'll be eagerly awaiting the next one!
Thank you @donna_alam, Montlake Publishing and @netgalley for the #gifted ebook ARC. All opinions expressed are #freebookreview and my own.
3.5⭐️
Not bad! I enjoyed reading this!
No Romeo is a billionaire romance where you will just absolutely adore the Main Girl’s quick wit and charm, while simultaneously hate/loving the Main Guy’s gray morals. There is forced proximity, a unique meet cute, plenty of banter and certainly some chili peppers, 🌶️ I mean, assume it by the cover LOL.
There was plenty of chemistry and you find yourself rooting for justice for Eve, our main girl after she found herself amidst a scandal mid-wedding *gasp*. Just KNOW that with a guy like Oliver who is not quite bad, but not quite good? Who is also a big rival against the ex-fiancé?? Why, this is just the perfect combination for s**t hit the fan.
Hopefully our girl doesn’t get caught in the crossfire.
This is my first book from Donna Alam and I might find myself reading more from her in the future!
E-ARC received from netgalley and montlake. Thank you!
This book started off strong. I loved the jilted groom scene. I was cheering when Evie confronted her cheating fiancé with his scandalous texts. And while I felt she was righteous in her disdain towards “rich people”, her diatribe became repetitive. What I also felt troublesome about her character was her easy acceptance of the richesse Oliver bestowed upon her. Rings, tiaras, opulent dinners … The snarky dialogues were fun to read in the beginning but, maybe because of the snark, I didn’t feel the love emotions between Eve and Oliver. The sexy times were steamy but some of the love language got a little cheesy for me. I really enjoyed the secondary characters namely Fin, Matt and Yara.
I enjoyed the tropes in this romance, especially the opening scene. We're introduced to Eve at the altar and she exposes her fiance for the cheating prick that he is. As the runaway bride desperately tries to find an escape, she ends up in the lap of Oliver. He happens to be a billionaire and also the rival of her ex-fiance.
A one night stand leads to the potential for revenge and blackmail in order for Eve to keep her visa.
This romance was enjoyable. The chemistry and spice were fire. I feel like even those who don't like smut would enjoy this since a lot of the spicy scenes ended up being closed door or not too graphic. A lot of plot in this book and it felt like it dragged on, could have been much shorter.
Some of the twists fell flat for me and didn't hit as hard as I was hoping. I didn't enjoy Oliver's character, especially in the beginning. He had some redeeming qualities towards the end but kind of dug himself in a hole at times. Some of the times Eve become upset bothered me and I didn't see the point in her "escape" towards the end after all the effort she put into getting her visa.
And speaking of visa, the scene at the very end was hilarious but that whole meeting did not sound realistic at all!
So there were a lot of funny moments in the book, but also some that didn't land. I was left with some questions or wondering where certain characters were, like Riley.
But overall this was a cute romance and I loved the tropes.
Tropes: Runaway bride, forced proximity, fake relationship, ex's rival, hate to love you, billionaire, and blackmail
About: A runaway bride falls into the lap of her cheating fiance's business rival. Oliver needs revenge. Evie needs a new way to get her visa. Falling in love with a billionaire can be difficult while he's blackmailing you. But not impossible.
The side characters are built into this book in a wonderful way that supports the plot but makes you want to know their stories too. I am assuming (I hope not incorrectly) that Oliver’s business partners/friends Matt and Fin will have follow-up stories in this series, but I would also like to see what happens with Nara and future cameos by Nora would be a delight.
I loved this book. It's the first book i've read by this author and I don't regret it.
Evie is a fierce, kind heated animal vet who has a rough start to the book with cheating fiancé and a very dramatic wedding day. She, literally, falls into the lap of Oliver and sparks fly.
Add in the antics of Mr Bojangles and the book version of Longleat safari park and you get brilliant turns of phrase like 'Breasties before testes'
No Romeo is the first book in a new series. Oliver and Evie meet by chance and as it turns out they both need each other to achieve more than just revenge! Oliver is quickly attracted to Evie and vice versa. One hot night is all Evie needs but Oliver decides that wasn’t enough.
After the events that transpired at what was supposed to be her wedding ceremony Eve’s only concern is escape and chance, or maybe fate, leads her to Oliver. She now finds herself in a bit of a situation as she has become a media sensation but her best chance to stay in the country is to live with Oliver.
Oliver is a successful business who regrets that Eve chose him to rescue her until he realizes who she was about to marry. With that information he comes up with an arrangement where she will help him best her ex-fiancé and he will help her stay in the country, what could possibly go wrong?
The conversations between them were humorous and even though Oliver may come across as cold and ruthless his actions towards Eve don’t reflect it. I enjoyed seeing the relationship unfold between them and the changes they brought into each others lives.
The first chapter is gold and had me hooked. I don’t know if I would be able to do what Evie did but the humiliation factor for Mitch was chefs kiss. Pity the bits of paper weren’t rocks like Evie wished, but assault charges aren’t great when you want revenge.
From the fire into the frying pan, Evie quite literally, jumps into the arms of a stranger running away from her wedding. Said stranger just happens to be her ex groom’s nemesis. From there shenanigans and ultimatums ensue. Oliver is morally grey, my favourite type of MMC, and blackmails Evie into a fake relationship.
I did like this book, but I found some of the banter especially in the hotel scene at the beginning a little cringey. It was also too long for me and dragged slightly in the middle.
3.5 stars rounded to 4
Flirty, lusty and long🤔
The author certainly knows how to bring on the heat in this romance set in England. The romance revolves around a gal who has trust issues and the man who fortuitously shows up to whisk her away from the aborted wedding she's just made a social media sensation. I just found the story, with lots of innuendo, steam and dialogue, awfully long. I would have been much happier with less.
Eve, the female lead, is portrayed, by her friends and herself, as a lovable do-gooder who has a bias against the wealthy. Yet, when her lot in life changes, it seemed to me she was pretty content living a pampered lifestyle(?). She also takes joy from putting her man in uncomfortable situations and making him work hard for her respect. I was not all that taken with her way of handling things.
Her rejection of Mitchell, her groom at the start of the book, was a good beginning but then things slowed down once she teamed up with wealthy and revenge-driven male lead Oliver. He sounds yummy if a bit too secretive, but a definite improvement on Mitchell and the way his actions and attitude change the more time they spend together made him increasingly sympathetic. But their scenes and her standoffish distrust lasted too long, the story lagged in the middle and it took some effort to make it to the book's end.
Thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
