Great romantic read with low drama. Fast paced novel with a great build world. Perfect read for an afternoon. Arc provided by Netgalley
I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!
I really wanted to like this book but it just didn't happen. Mainly because I didn't like Spring and Henry didn't make an impression on me. Now, this was billed as a modern day retelling of Pride & Prejudice and even though I could see some similarities, the story was mostly unforgettable to me. I never became invested in the story or felt connected with the characters and maybe that's why I had such a hard time getting through this book. After reading some of the reactions of other readers, I believe that this book was just not for me. Not a bad story, just one not to my liking.
I did not finish this book, and will not be writing a formal review of it. I think my biggest problem was that I could not take the heroine seriously with the name Spring Honeycutt. Springer!? It just didn't work for me. And I find I'm liking P&P retellings less and less. Stick to the original story!
I went back and forth with a 4 and 5 star because there were parts in the story that seemed abrupt. The story would jump or the end of the chapter would just end. The flow of it needed some work in places. That being said, Henry was very swoony once you got to know him. Loved the similarities to Pride and Prejudice and it was nice that they were not exact story lines. Spring could irritate me at times but she did get better as the story went along. Now back to Henry, yes, he was my favorite character of the book. The scenes with him were my favorites and I even reread them a couple times while reading. Hoping to see more of him in #2 but would also love to see Dart.
I loved this young adult novel because of all the different twists, turns, assumptions and truths that are written in the relationship between Spring and Henry. All the twists, turns, assumptions and truths that blend or antagonize each other that make Definitely in Love such a captivating and engaging novel.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
