I love the unique take on the serial killer story through the eyes of a close family member, I was pulled into this book instantly and that ending was insane. This is a perfect mix of mystery/police procedural and I was desperate to know what happened. I loved the fact that Maggie felt like a real person and it was easy to feel for and her and the emotional rollercoaster she’s goes on throughout the story. The novel is fast-paced, and each chapter ends with a cliffhanger keeping the reader turning pages. I hadn’t read the first book in the series but I will definitely go back while I eagerly await the sequel.

After bingeing a bunch of romance books, I definitely was looking for a….pallet cleanser. Cue: HER FATHER’S SECRETS, the second book in the Margot Phalen series by Kate Wiley. Honestly, I couldn't flip the pages fast enough. It was exactly what I needed 👌🏼

There are so many mysteries and twists packed into this one—I was hooked until the last page! And that ending? Total cliffhanger! Now, I'm counting down the days till book 3! 👀

Thank you Netgalley for my arc!

Her Father’s Secret by Kate Wiley is another excellent book. Detective Margot Phalen and her team are back for book two in the series between Margot and fellow detective Wes. There is something simmering between them.

The story is about her serial killer father passing on titbits of information to Margot his daughter who is now a police detective. We find out more about Margot through her chats with her therapist. I The characters are strong and tough which is what you need for this to be able to work so well. The book is a dark psychological thriller which I highly recommend to those who love fast-paced, action-packed novels. I cannot wait to read more in this series. Thanks to NetGalley and to the publishers of this book for giving me a free advance copy of the book to preview and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a brilliant read, picking up on things left in book one and growing our main characters further. Really looking forward to book 3, this is a series I will definitely be keeping up with.

The second book is just as good as the first!
Detecting Margot Phalen is such a lovable character. From her broken history to her learning to manage two identities, to her awkwardness around her current (cute) partner.

The story continues on with her crime solving and her visits to her father. There are twists and turns, and yet another cliff hanger-esque ending!
This is one author I wish would type faster!

3.5* Decent intro, but I'm used to stronger female leads, so this disappointed a tad.

This was a decent intro to this author, but I was frustrated by the female lead bending to her boss's and the FBI's emotional blackmail and belittling of her. She'd had overcome so much, had done so much to change her life for the better and make a meaningful difference, so to see her at their mercy wasn't great. I wished she'd stood up for herself more.

What I did like is that she didn't let her dad make her cower. Yes, she had to play his game a little but it felt like she had the upper hand, especially where the tale paused - it felt like a pause, not the end, with the open-endedness. Hopefully it won't be long before the next one out, because this was worth a read, especially woth the potential for Margot to get stronger and stand her ground, and be recognised for her own merits, not her usefulness where her psychopath father is concerned.

This is my first book by Kate Wiley. Her writing style is solid and it kept me hooked from Chapter 1. I could vividly picture everything she was writing, and even got the creeps a few times. I'm kinda mad I'm just hearing about her now lol.

Margot is a strong FMC. She is juggling her personal life, her career as a homicide detective, and helping the FBI with her fathers serial killer case.

I'm mad I didn't read the first book, but I'm not upset I read this one.
4/5 stars. Would recommend it to a friend.

Her Father's secret was a very well written book, I loved the switching timelines. The character growth is done very well, and I am looking forward to reading more from this series. I also really like the cover!

I really enjoy Margot's story and feel like this series could end up being a movie. I really wanted more with her visits with her father, Ed though. I don't feel like there was enough of that! Of course, with the way it ends, I'm patiently waiting the next book in the series! I HAVE to know more!

I did t realise this was a follow up so read it as a standalone and omg! What have I been missing?! It's such a fresh take on the premise and it's amazingly well written. These characters are fleshed out amazingly well and Brough too life in vivid colour. I couldn't put it down and couldn't read it fast enough. I loved the suspense and its one of the few thrillers I've read that also has a really decent character development ad the story progresses. Amazing

This is an interesting take on a serial killer story - seen through the eyes of the daughter of one. Years of terrible memories and too many questions left unanswered make this a hard to put down mystery.

This is the second book in this series where we have Margot who’s father was a serial killer and is locked up though they still don’t know all of his victims. He likes to use that to get his daughter to come visit him which is horrible for her mental health. Margot is a detective and is investigating the murder of a prostitute all while her city is under fire by a snipper. These are some of the cases she faces and all the while she does great keeping things light and funny. This is a series I will be keeping up with.

“O’Halloran looked as if someone had found a cop who had died in 1976 and brought him back to life, then forced him to return to work.”

I was super intrigued and impressed with book 1 in the Det. Margot Phalen series, so when book 2 became available, I jumped at the chance to read it. This sequel did not disappoint. While Margot is still working on the double homicide case from book 1, she also gets thrown into some other brutal cases, a dead woman in a park and a mass shooter on the loose. Add being summoned by her serial killer father, it is fair to say her life is a lot more than chaotic.

Margot is desperately trying to keep her own sanity together while doing what she feels is right. Her father, who has already admitted to 60+ killings, is going to confess to more, but only to her. She decides to sacrifice her peace to help bring closure to these families, something she will never be able to have herself. Her superiors worry she might be taking on too much, so they decide to put her on desk duty. Even while being sidelined, she still manages to crack these really hard cases. To top it off, she helps close a missing persons case that was never tied to her dad, but was ultimately committed by him. Now she has to decide if she is willing to help more families, or help herself.

I really enjoyed the character progression Margot is going through here. She is more vulnerable and less closed off to the reader. There are also hints of romantic feelings starting to show more and more towards her partner He is her safe space and one of the few people who knows who her dad is. He is what is keeping her out of the black hole threatening to engulf her. This is fast paced, gripping, intriguing, and left me ready for the next book! I am a huge fan of Karin Slaughter, and to me, this series is reminiscent to her work. I will for sure pick up the next book in this series or anything else Kate Wiley has written. Highly recommend!

Wow I've just found a new fave author. I've not read book #1 yet but this story stood alone and gave quite a bit of insight into the characters past.
Detective Margot SFPD Homicide, used to be Megan, the daughter of a serial killer. She now hides her past from nearly everyone, a young teen when her father was arrested she lives her life without ugly scrutiny.
Margot and her team have several cases, deaths and a serial killer. Traumatic enough without other things in her life like visiting her father in prison with the FBI to help find another victim.
The story zipped on by as I read one cold afternoon. I'm going to hunt for the first book now and see what else this author has written.

I did not realize this was a second to a series. However I did not feel lost. Based on the reading though I would enjoy going back and reading book one!

I enjoyed reading Her Father’s Secret by Kate Wiley .   Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. It wasn't until I finished this book that I realized it was #2 in a series. I don't feel that I missed out on anything and it was not hard to follow so that is a definite plus. I liked the story, but at times it seemed to ramble a bit, making it hard for me to REALLY get into it. I don't think that I need to go back and read the first one of the series; but if another book in the series comes out I may give it a go.

I can for sure say that I really love Kate Wiley's writing style. It's very appealing to me and makes it easy to fly through the book. I like how there's more than just one story happening throughout the book. With this being a police procedural, it intrigues me that there's several cases going on. It makes it more realistic.

In this story, we follow Detective Margot Phalen as she continues to receive messages from her father who is a notorious serial killer. He wants her to visit him in prison in order to get information from him. This weighs over her heavily because it's mentally traumatizing each time. While all of this is going on, she also works on other cases.

This book wasn't as good as the first book, but I still really enjoyed it. I feel like it's hard to make a series with each one being equally as interesting, but this is pretty close. I like the creativity for the other cases. It makes me not want to put it down because I was so intrigued to find out what was going to happen. Which makes me very excited for future books. I'm eager to read the rest of her series.

** Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for my digital copy. I'm very grateful. **
