An accurate story of WWI. I was able to get a better idea how a family dealt with all the turmoil and loss. It’s a must read story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I would have read this book in one sitting if I could! I was sucked in from the very first page. This is a WWI historical fiction that has everything: family, love, friendships, espionage, and of course, war.
If you are a history buff or a fan of historical fiction, you will appreciate all the WWI references woven into the story. I really felt for the main character, Dieter, from page 1.
The book opens up with Dieter having just gotten bad news at the doctor. It is a reminder that even though people are in war times, they still have to grapple with health issues and interpersonal issues all while living in uncertainty. Through out Dieter’s experience of WWI, the main theme is persevering with love and hope.
I loved the writing, the descriptions, and the short chapters in this book. It was a really enjoyable and quick paced read.
