The premise of Fang Fiction is very intriguing and kept me interested. This book mainly follows Tess, a super fan of a popular vampire series - Blood Feud - that she turns to for comfort after a traumatic event.

Tess meets one of the Blood Feud characters IRL, and discovers her favorite novels are not a work of fiction. Tess is tasked with an adventure to save the Isle where Blood Feud takes place. Tess meets an array of characters including the romantic leads of Blood Feud - Felix and Callum. I found the Isle and its workings the most interesting part of the novel. However I felt there was a lot of time spent on details that wasn’t always necessary to the plot.

While I felt parts moved slowly, I did enjoy following the story of Tess and vampires of the Isle. What I didn’t like was after a few chapters the perspectives changed to other characters. While it was easy to tell who is speaking, and I appreciated knowing their POV, it felt weird that the POV shifted for the first time after 30% through. There’s a lot of back and forth between real life and the Isle. Sometimes the shifts felt clunky. The first half of the book had either a text, podcast transcript or another intro that gave insight to a chapter - which I thought was interesting. This stopped halfway through but then started up again. I was bothered by that and wished for consistency.

Overall, I enjoyed reading about the world of Blood Feud and I think there’s potential to make more stories in this world. I would even read the Blood Feud book as I found the story extremely interesting. I would recommend Fan Fiction but highly encourage readers to look at the warnings in the author’s not prior to reading.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing for an advance reader digital copy. All opinions are my own and I leave this review voluntarily.

Overall this book was an entertaining read! I’m a huge fan of cheesy vampire media, so this seemed right up my alley. I really enjoyed the romance aspect of the story, Callum and Tess’ dynamic and relationship progression was very cute and sweet. I loved the inclusion of a main protagonist who was notably plus sized, but also that it wasn’t such a huge focus of her character and story. She was desirable and sexy, and that was never in question in relation to her body type. I enjoyed the Buffy vibes and references, and that there was a little bit of mystery with the author’s identity. I wasn’t a huge fan of all of the fantasy aspects of the book, but I think the semantics of that are a hard thing to flush out in a single novel. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to future books by this author!

Really wanted to like this one as the premise sounded interesting. However, I had to DNF as the writing style just wasn't for me.

This book sounded like so much fun, unfortunately, it didn't fulfil my expectations at all, so I had to DNF it halfway through.

This book didn't read like an adult novel, more of a 2010s YA fan fiction. The hefty dose of trigger warnings was an unexpected and unwelcome surprise. The writing was mediocre and head-hopping annoyed me to no end, the plot didn't hook me as well.

Fang Fiction, by Kate Stayman-London, tells the story of Tess, a former graduate student at Columbia who is assaulted by another student in her program, a horrible violation which prompts her to leave academia. When the novel begins, we meet Tess as she's working nights and managing a glamorous hotel called The Georgia and re-reading her favorite vampire books, the Blood Feud novels. However, everything changes the night that Octavia Yoo, one of the central vampire characters from Blood Feud, walks into the hotel and asks for Tess' help. Then, it seems that the world of Blood Feud, and its characters, may be far more real than Tess had ever anticipated

I really enjoyed this book! I thought that Tess' story was heartbreaking, yet ultimately empowering, and the journey that she embarks on over the course of the novel was incredibly moving. I think that, at one point or another, every reader has imagined what it might be like to slip into the world of their favorite book and Fang Fiction absolutely fulfills that dream! I loved Tess, Callum, Octavia, and Joni as characters; they felt strong, compelling, and distinct.

Overall, there's a lot to be gained from the pages of Fang Fiction and I really liked it!

My favorite movie when I was around 10 years old was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The original Buffy with Luke Perry and Kristy Swanson. I was obsessed. Reading Fang Fiction by Kate Stayman-London put me right back in that feeling I had during my Buffy obsession. This book was so fun to read. It has humans and vampires and witches and book fandoms and love. It has the story of a friendship tested and a story of survival. Also, there’s a playlist on Spotify. I love books that have a playlist created by the author. I loved every second I spent with this book. I am going to need a physical copy for my shelf. Thank you NetGalley and Random House for the opportunity to read this book before it is published.

When friends asked me to describe this book I repeatedly said, "it's like twilight, if twilight didn't take itself so seriously." This was silly, heartfelt, fast-paced, and generally a good time. A very fresh twist on a vampire novel. Modern, sexy, witty, and had me laughing. It managed to keep my guessing through most of the story, I would definetly recommend this to people looking for a paranormal rom com. Make sure you read the author's note, some of the content could be triggering. The interview with the author is also a wonderful touch.
Thank you net galley for giving me this book to review.

I was really looking forward to reading this book because of the cover and of course, vampires!! The overall concept was super fun and imaginative. It was a quick read but it felt well-thought out and detailed. Would definitely recommend!

Throughout the first 150 pages of this book, I thought of abandoning it more than once given how very little it caught my attention. It only starts picking up a nice pace when it’s about to end.

The author uses a very gen-z centered language and while that might make others feel identified, it made me feel like this was for a teenage audience and not really a young adult. Even in the parts that were supposed to be “sexual content.” While in one hand, it touches on trauma realistically, it also leaves it as a loose end in a lot of ways, only bringing it up as a side quest and when we see some elaboration of it, it isn’t in the best circumstances. That being said, I could see it becoming a short series in the future with a dark ambiance similar to Netflix’s Wednesday catered towards audiences 14 years old and up.

Vampires have always been fun and entering a renaissance era for them would be phenomenal, the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in fiction is not often seen and it’s amazing that we are taking a step forward, but the premise of the book carried a lot more weight than its mediocre delivery.

I was drawn to this book by the cute cover and the book blurb. I would LOVE to discover that one of my favorite vampire book series is actually real and have the chance to be transported there!

The book’s imaginative world building and good character development lay a solid foundation for the story. Fang Fiction touches on SA and the challenges of overcoming trauma which may make some readers uncomfortable. Please check your trigger warnings.

Fang Fiction is a love letter to all vampire romances out there. It’s an enjoyable read with an engaging storyline, a strong, full figured FMC, positive queer representation, and colorful secondary characters.

Do you believe in love? Desire sexy vampires? Celebrate overcoming adversity? Give Fang Fiction a try!

Y'all, this book was so much fun. Imagine a world where you woke up one day in Buffy or true blood... that's what Tess and Joni woke up to.

I loved the imagination, the realistic elements, and the craziness. I also absolutely loved that it was also several love stories. Not just between main characters or best friends, but a love story of Tess with herself as well as she overcomes past trauma.

I really think this is a funny must-read for any fans of modern vampire stories/series. I tore through it so fast.

I feel mislead by this book. It seemed to be marketed as a romcom which that it was not. The constant reminded and talk of rape was just such overkill. I don’t understand why it was such a focal point. Representation matters I get that but this was supposed to be a fun vampire book and it was not that. If I’d known ahead of time about the constant rape theme I would not have picked it up.

This was such a fun and captivating read! Definitely for fans of vampire shows such as The Vampire Diaries, Buffy, Twilight, etc. I loved the world building, and I'm so glad I could enjoy this world through Tess. I always love when it's a good guy, bad guy story, and this one was done perfectly. Tess's character development was amazing to experience, and if I had the choice, I would probably go too. Octavia and Callum were such badasses, I think they might be my favorite characters from this story. Bar Between was so cool, it is my favorite place in this story. The characters in this book are very human, and you can relate to them and their experiences. Do make sure to read the content warning before reading! I would love to see more from the side characters! The ending left me very satisfied, and I enjoyed the experience of this book very much. Definitely one to add to your TBR!

*Big thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for the ARC copy!!*

This is the vampire romance for those of us looking for something a little less sparkly but still campy in the best way. The MC’s we’re so human (lol) and incredibly likable that I wish we’d gotten even more of their story.

Highly recommend! I had a really good time reading this and I generally liked the characters! I did take one star away because there were times where the characters fell flat for me. Keep content warnings in mind!

Thank you Net Galley for this ARC!

I enjoyed this book although I do have some qualms. In theory, I should love this book…vampires, romance, popping into alternate realities, etc. However, I found the introduction/beginning a little winded and then a lot of the “meat” of the story felt rushed through or skipped over. It’s definitely a fun story that readers who are into the romance, dark academia, vampire vibes will enjoy. 3.5 stars overall!

Overall, I enjoyed this book! I only wish it didn't read quite so YA. But, it was silly, fun and I couldn't put it down towards the end. I would love to read a part two and see what happens. It definitely could have been a series in itself. Am definitely going to be recommending.

I really loved this one! It's such a fun send-up of vampire fiction, and the mashup of Twilight style fan fic with a contemporary story was really clever. I also loved the way the author balanced heavier topics such as sexual assault with the ridiculousness of vampires. The ending is hilarious, and I'm beyond obsessed with the cover!

A fun read, but do keep in mind the content warning the author gives at the beginning. If I’d known beforehand, I probably wouldn’t have picked up this book, but so it goes. A very fun concept though!

This was a super cute book - fun story. Vampire fiction turned reality!? dating the fictional vampire your Buzzfeed Quiz told you wasn’t your match!? All of this and more in Fang Fiction. The story was a quick read once I got into it and I enjoyed the plot. I also liked the use of different mediums throughout the book - mentions of Podcasts, etc. I only went three stars because the writing felt a little immature to me and the romance felt very sudden for both couples. I didn’t see when they clicked or the build up to falling in love, it wasn’t there and then it was. Other than that an enjoyable read!

Thanks NetGalley and Random House for the ARC!
