The Whispering Night is the continuation of Winnie Wednesday's saga in Hemlock Falls. After learning Jay's secret and discovering that there are in fact Diana's in Hemlock falls, Winnie Wednesday teams up with the original WTF group, determined to figure out what happened to Erica Thursday's sister and Winnie's dad.
This book is action packed from the very first chapter, and gripping installment on the incredible world that Susan Dennard has created. I found myself completed spellbound by the rich history she created, The nightmares and whole premise of the compendium are incredible but the entire ecosystem she's build of this lifeforce is such good storytelling.
As a science teacher by day, I appreciated all the scientific explanations adoring how Dennard tied science into to fantasy in a seamless package.
I'm always a harsh critic on the third book in a trilogy, but I have to say the lose ends of this story, were tied in a seamless bow with a satisfying ending and the seeds for more.
PLEASE LET THERE BE MORE.
The narration was also fantastic. I loved the narrators voices, even when weak at the knees during her breathy rendtion of Jay uttering off scientific terminology... Homeostsis...
Overall. Very enjoyable read. One of my top favorite new fantasy series.

As a big lover of The Luminaries, I was super excited for this one and it did not disappoint! We cannot wait to get this into the bookstore for our customers. YA fantasy readers, this series is a must!

I was excited to be jumping back into the luminaries world thanks to netgalley and publisher for an advanced listener copy.
It took me a good minute to grasp what was going on which i truly feel that was my fault as i forgot a bit of what was going on in the last book. i loved being back in hemlock falls and being with the gang. I enjoyed the way winnie has to try to sovle this mystery and the writing was good.
The narrator was really good, keep up with the different characters and having an accent on a few. The only thing i did not like was the recording in the story i.e a certain part had time stamps and then talking from two different characters and it kinda felt off in my ears.
sadly i feel this read was not as good as the others in the series, sometimes i was confused to why the thing was happening or just did not make sense. I also wished we had more of the "crow" from the ending of book two, I was let down to the discovery of the mystery winnie was trying to solve, the characters felt a bit dull in this read and some times i wondered if certain things would have been better if it was written differently. Lastly i felt like there was alot of repeating, like we have heard many time about certain things yet we are getting reminded of them over and over again.
I do really still care for this series but i am very much hooked on book one the most.

The world in this fantasy series is hauntingly impressive. The fast-paced action really keeps you hooked. In a place filled with werewolves, banshees, sylphs, and other nightmare creatures, The Whisper is probably the scariest of them all. The Whispering Night is the final book in the Luminaries Series, and it's just as packed with action and secrets as the previous ones. Winnie's relationship with Jay is on solid ground, and her training is going well. She even starts to rebuild her friendship with Erica Thursday. But things get tricky as she faces a time-sensitive situation, battling with her loyalty and how to protect the community from The Whisper. Plus, her mission to clear her father's name and find out what happened to him adds to the weight of it all. I am so glad I read this unique series.
The Narrator, Caitlin Davies does a wonderful job creating emotion and conveying the atmosphere. I enjoyed listening to her narration.
Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan audio for the advanced listener copy. This is my honest review.

The third book in the series is typically better than the second, which holds true for this series. The book begins on a positive note: Winnie is friends with Erica again, they aren’t hunting the werewolf, and she and Jay might be figuring out their relationship. But soon everything changes when Winnie is given an honor she doesn’t want, putting her in the public eye, which leads to an unwelcome confrontation with a Diana. As Winnie continues to search for her missing father, she finds out more about her family history and the feud between the Dianas and the Luminaries. This was an action packed ending to the trilogy, and if you were on the fence because of book 2, read this one to finish the series.

Five *fantastic conclusion* Stars
So. Many. Answers.
Where is Winnie's father and what happened to him?
Are the enemies really their enemies?
What's going on with Jay?
I do not have a single complaint about this final book in The Luminaries series. It's definitely a series that will be on my reread list. Caitlin Davies does a wonderful job at narrating this series.
Huge thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this story.

I enjoyed the audiobook! I would definitely recommend the narrator. The book itself was an enjoyable and satisfying conclusion to the triology!

I gave the second book in this series 4.25 stars and I think this one matches that.
We start off right where the second one left off. We learn Jay is a werewolf and Erica is kind of a Diana. After Winnie wins the Midnight Crown for the upcoming festivities, she meets the masked Diana crow who gives her an impossible task to complete.
My favorite thing about these book is how alone Winnie starts out and how she realizes that even through her banishment, she had people who cared about her and after her banishment was over, she could let people in who stopped talking to her, because they were just following ruled drilled into them. Bretta, Emma and Fatima were such a supportive group of girls and even when Winnie had to figure things out with Jay and Erica, they were still there for her. Winnie and Jay's relationship was never really the focus of any part of the book, but it was a constant thing and it was obvious that the feelings were big. I also love Winnie's relationship with her mom and brother Darian. They were all each other had for 4 years and it's obvious that bond became so strong.
The pacing of this book was kind of fast, slow, fast, slow. When there was a lull, it always picked back up when it felt like it needed to. We really do get most if not all of our answers by the end of this book. There is a strong possibility of someone being a crow (the actual animal, not the crow-masked Diana) and the way this ties everything together at the end is perfect.
While these books are told from Winnie's POV, there are flashbacks and snippets from others here and there. There is one snippet at the end of this one that would make a perfect lead-in to another series or a spin off that would be so fun to read about!
The narrator of this series was really great. She made the perilous things seem so perilous and really brought the characters and story to life. Her voice was very enjoyable to listen to and made it easy to comprehend the story.

Not my favorite novel of this series and not exactly how I imagined the events of this book would go/flow, but in all I was simply satisfied with the story. I do not know if the author is planning to continue the world of Hemlock Falls with nightmares and hunters, but I sure hope she does. If so, I might like to see another Luminaries town. I just feel like maybe Hemlock Falls has seen its natural conclusion. I do see that she might have set it up to continue following Winnie and Jay, but I do think this last installment wasn't quite as interesting as the first two.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, & Macmillan Audio for the audioARC! I was simply entertained!! :-)
First off, as with the first two books the narrator did a fantastic job! The audio flowed and each character's vocals were consistent and clear. As with the other two installments the world in which Dennard has created is breathtaking. I love the idea and the characters, and its the first time since reading Harry Potter that I feel an author has succeeded in building a world that exists within our own that feels believable. For that reason, I will continue to recommend this series to all my YA reading patrons/book clubbers. As for rating the story, I only gave this particular installment a 3.5 star. The story and the characters didn't flow for me as they had in the last two; the characters almost felt out of character, if you know what I mean. Winnie has never exactly been confident, but with everything she has survived and endured in a short period of time, I felt she needed to be bolder...especially when it came to Erika, the higher ranking Luminaries, and the Diana's. Each book was able to show progression of Winnie and her journey of self-discovery, but this one felt like she wobbled a lot. It just made it hard to push through in some parts of the book. Neither did this novel have much of what I loved best about the series--the nightmares.
I was also a bit let down on the reveal of the mystery behind her father's disappearance and what happened to Jenna. There wasn't a twist a was hoping for or a revelation I hadn't been able to guess after book 1. It was just an okay wrap up to a much heavier build. I felt a bit let down. Also the last scene was super cheesy... very cute though for the younger YA readers.
I would recommend this to any reader, no matter age, who likes books that center around friendship, loyalty, PG romance, and self-discovery.
No Regrets!!!!

I would like to thank the publisher for sending me an audio-arc in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley.
What an ending! This series has been so full of monsters and action and mystery that I wasn't sure how it could end in a way that not only made sense, but also ended on a happier note.
One thing that I loved about this book is that we finally get a lot of answers to questions we've had since book one, tying everything together perfectly. We get to see Winnie at her best, we get to see a lot of character growth, and for me, that was everything we needed for this final installment. My only wish was there was a little more romance? But I was also okay with what we got. I love Jay so much, and I just wanted to see more of him and Winnie together because ahh they are adorable!
The action was intense. I was on my toes from start to finish, and even then I felt like despite everything, I couldn't trust the ending because holy crap there were so many twists and turns I felt like I had whiplash. The mystery was not only twisty, but unravelled in a way that had me second guessing everything. I definitely recommend this trilogy, and I highly recommend the audiobook as the narrator does a fantastic job bringing this series to life.

I was nervous going into this last installment in the Illuminaries trio, I still had so many questions from the first two books. I loved how fast paced this one was. There is so much action packed into every chapter, and I was here for the ride. I love Winnie and thought that her development in this one. The romance between her and Jay is super cute and I was glad to see that play it part in the story. I was so excited when the mystery surrounded her dad, and the other was finally starting to unravel. The closure from that was completely a sigh of relief as I had a slight worry that the series would end without us knowing. I cannot wait to re-read this series straight through so that I can have the full scope of the story fresh in my mind. I love Caitlin Davies narration of this book and can't imagine that anyone would have been able to give it such life like she did.

I received a copy of this as part of the MacMillan Audio Influencers program and thought it was a great conclusion to a fresh trilogy. It was full of action (I think the most of the trilogy) and enough twists to keep me engaged from start to finish. I felt like it gave great resolution to several lingering questions from throughout the trilogy. It also brought in new characters that added to the intrigue of the story via the Nightmare Masquerade.
This book shines for its broader story and the fast-paced, dark atmosphere. Some secondary characters, like Jeremiah, Lenora, and Caterina, were intriguing but underexplored, and I would have loved to see them developed more, but that would have required way more book. On the other hand, Erica’s prickly, "ice queen" charm added depth to her role in the story, balancing out the team dynamic.
The audiobook version enhances the experience with Caitlin Davies’s excellent narration that captures the story’s eerie vibe. The Whispering Night provides a solid finish to an entertaining young adult fantasy series, blending horror and romance in a way that's both accessible and thrilling for younger audiences. The open-ended finale leaves space for more adventures in this world—maybe a spinoff is headed our way???

I couldn't wait for this third and final book in the trilogy . I am grateful for the review copies I received an Ebook and an audiobook. I often read then listen to books I really enjoy. Thank you publishers and Netgalley
The last book had me sitting on edge, thankfully this one pulled me off and gave me some answers I was craving. Fantastic ending ! There were lots of little bits that I missed on my first read that I picked up through the audiobook. I recommend this audiobook highly the narration is fantastic !
Winnie and Jay, she grew up a lot in this series as does their relationship. It’s nice to have a couple you can believe in.
The Diana’s well there is a story you’ve got to read. We find out some really interesting history on them and a couple twisted twists !
What happened to Winnie’s father ? What was the real story. It’s in this book, read it. You’ll have a good time finding out.

This was the exact conclusion I needed for this spooky series. This was way better than book 2 in my opinion and had so much more action that kept me on my toes. If you still haven't picked this series up, definitely give it a shot! It's such an entertaining and immersive world.
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the ARC.

“The Whispering Night,” by Susan Dennard
This is a good book for people that like young YA books, I didn’t love love how quirky and funny it tried to be but would be a good book for actual teens and not so much lover of YA in my opinion. The characters were good when they weren’t trying too hard to be funny. I absolutely hated the recording which I thought were super annoying which leads me into the narration of the audiobook. The narration was good besides the recording, but those recordings really ruined the book for me, but I have a bias that I hate books that have a lot of communication through letters, texts, etc. so if that doesn’t bother you then it’s a good chance you might like the book better.
Anyways, 3 out of 5 stars.
-Werewolves
-Witches
-Mystery
Thank you for the ARC, Netgalley.

I feel like I really enjoyed the first two. But i don’t know. Something about this one fell short for me. Maybe I was just not in the right headspace for it
Note: I listened to the audio and it’s a good audio - no complaints from me on that!

Whispering Night is Dennard's third and final installment of the Luminaries trilogy. We finally get some answers to the questions about Winnie's father, the "new" nightmare manifesting in the forest, and a small bit more about the sleeping nightmares. The world building in these novels has been fantastic and we even still see more in this third novel. I like all of the characters in these books, but the true catch for me were the things we learned about the world along the way. The character development seems to have plateaued, because the characters did not engage me much at all in this third book. The ending, for specific reasons, was very repetitive which wouldn't have been a drawback if I hadn't already felt distanced from Winnie and her journey. Overall, this was a good ending to the series with an opening to have related series in the future, but if it had been the first in series, I probably would not continue.

This series is absolutely one of my favorite series of all time, and The Whispering Night summed it up perfectly! Winnie is such an amazing FMC and she cracks me up with her inner dialogue. This final installment of The Luminaries series was epic, and we go right back to where the last book (The Hunting Moon) left off. I love how complex (but not difficult to follow) the creatures, the family houses (named after days of the week), and the situation with the witches (Dianas) are in this series. We do meet a new adversary (as if Winnie needed anymore) and we also get closure to many questions. One twist in particular (no spoilers) had me legit crying. Susan Dennard is now on my list of favorite fantasy authors! Do yourself a favor and get this series!!! I could write a book praising this series, but trust me, you need to read this immediately!

A massive thank you to Tor for allowing me to read and review this title.
The Whispering Night is the third and final instalment of the Luminaries series by Susan Dennard. I have been following along since before the beginning of this series, when Susan Dennard was posting prompts for the audience to choose on Twitter. And since she is also one of my favourite authors, I could not wait to get into this book and catch up with all the characters again.
Since this is the final book, I'll try to keep the review as spoiler free as possible. We pick up with Winnie after she learns the secrets that her childhood friends have been keeping from her, and we see her trying to mend the bonds with these friends. But the Dianas are not done with their meddling. One of them manages to find Winnie and give her a task, or else everyone she loves will be in danger.
Still seeking answers to how and why her dad became entangled with the Dianas, Winnie must trust her instincts and her newly mended friendship with Erica Thursday to try and stop what's coming. And the forest is also growing restless...
I absolutely loved this series. It's quite different from Dennard's Truthwitch series, but it has its own atmosphere that draws the reader in. It's especially fitting as a Halloween read, as all the monsters and the misty, dark forest are described so vividly.
The characters in this series have grown so much, especially when realising how important friendships can be, and that a support structure can make or break you as a person. I love that this was one of the major focuses of the series. Winnie being an outsider at the start, trying to find who she can trust as she slowly starts to gain her status in the town back from her family's scandal.
There are a few loose strings that weren't fully wrapped up, but in general I am quite happy with how it ended. I would highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a fun, monster hunting series about friendships and redemption. And of course, I look forward to seeing if Susan Dennard will be releasing more books in this universe! Once a #DenNerd, always a #DenNerd!

The Whispering Night was in my top five anticipated reads this year and, while I’m sad to leave these characters, I’m happy with the way their journey ends.
Reviewing book three in a series is difficult without giving away spoilers, so this will be brief. Winnie believes her life has finally settled down and is back on track. She and Jay are together, no one’s hunting the werewolf, and her friendship with Erica isn’t quite as shaky as it was. She should have known not to get too comfortable.
New foes arrive, and when shocking secrets involving her own family come to light, Winnie digs deeper. Family has always been her first priority, and she’s determined to learn more about what happened to her father. As with the prior books in this series, I love Winnie’s very logical approach to problem solving and the way she stays true to herself rather than cave to the expectations of others. Her growth over the course of the series is outstanding, and I felt a kind of parental pride for her by the end.
Quick pacing, loads of action, and extremely high stakes make for a compelling read. Recommended for readers who enjoy urban fantasy, a slow-burn romance, and characters that steal your heart.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
