I enjoyed this sequel much better than the first book in the trilogy. Where I felt the first book was slow and took too long to build to the plot, this book picked up right away and we were immediately engaged with the characters.

This was exactly what I wanted to the second book in this series to be. It was darker, more horrific, twisted. I ate it up. Absolutely ate it up. This series is just so good and I cannot wait to continue it

Thank you for this book. I did not enjoy it enough to write a review. I do not write negative reviews. The writing is very affected and poorly edited IMHO, which distracts from the reading experience and enjoyment. This books lacks the charm of the first book, which I think comes mostly from learning about the characters' lives before they are taken to the talent's home. This second book lacks that, as most sequels do. I also found it somewhat confusing, especially regarding which grownup women were which. Sorry. Thanks.

I loved the first book, but this one dragged on a bit too much for me. Around 75-80% through I realized I had lost interest in the book. I did enjoy the creepy monsters and atmosphere. If the third book gets good reviews, I will probably still finish the trilogy. Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC.

I love this book as much as the first, which is a pretty high bar for me. The effects of the first one's ending ring so true and bring an incredible uncertainty to what may happen because how much everyone has changed. The settings continue to be gorgeously described and vivid in their grotesquery. I would die for every one of these children and I wish the next book would come right now.

Bringer of Dust by J.M. Miro is a worthy sequel to Ordinary Monsters. Picking up shortly after the first book leaves off, we follow our characters as they try to find a way to rescue Marlowe from Orsine. In Bringer of Dust, we get to know our main characters better and see new sides to them as they deal with new situations. We are also introduced to new characters who quickly feel as familiar and loved as our original cast. The story was just as gripping as the first book and has Miro's brilliant writing and character development. I am eagerly looking forward to the next book and to being reunited with these characters again!

Bringer of Dust picks up with the characters planning a way to rescue Marlowe from the orsine, and we spend a good bit of the story with them being separated to play out their parts in that plan. I really liked having the chapters focused on the different characters or groups of characters, so I could spend more time with them. And Miro introduces some new characters, one of which I really connected with (Jeta) and some new villainous characters, that he writes really well.

I felt like the writing goes deeper into the characters in the second book. Ordinary Monsters has great character development, but the second book really dives into what the talents are facing, with feelings of good and evil, finding love, and having hope of accomplishing Marlowe’s rescue and defeating the drughr. Charlie makes a great main character, because he is facing challenges on all sides, but continues to be resilient in the face of all of those adversities. There are really a lot of characters to love in the story, but Kamako is another of my favorites. I love the tension that Miro brings to her character and where he takes her storyline at the end of this book.

The feel of Bringer of Dust goes into a bit more horror than Ordinary Monsters, and l loved how it brought a darker, seedier edge to the story. There are some more gruesome parts to this book, that affect the talents and exiles, so I would definitely keep that in mind if that is a trigger warning for you. Clacker Jack and the Abbess make great additions to the list of villains, as characters who are out to manipulate and use the talents/exiles for their own ends.

I found it hard to put down Bringer of Dust, because the story was so captivating for me. I love the slower-paced, character driven story line, with action/conflict mixed throughout the book. I am really looking forward to the conclusion of the story in the final book!

Miro has done it again! I originally picked up the first book in this series, Ordinary Monsters, due to the cover looking very similar to Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and the fact they both took place in Victorian England and were fantasy books. It was not like Jonathan Strange, not in a bad way, and I fell in love! I snatched up the sequel ASAP when I saw it available on NetGalley and it was another amazing book!!

Bringer of Dust picks up not too long after the mind blowing conclusion of Ordinary Monsters. All of our characters are splitting up to tackle different challenges that are keeping them from saving one of their friends. We go to France and Italy and meet new characters, friends and villains, along the way. There are revelations, twists and turns, and if you enjoyed the first book, you'll love this one too!

This book is just.... amazing, I'll say it again! You see the size of this book, and it might seem intimidating, but holy cow it flies by! Even when there's a lull in the action, Miro's writing sucks you in and before you know it, you're in love with all of these characters and the book's climax is in sight and you're reading furiously to see if your favorite ones make it through alive. There are so many characters but they are so well fleshed out and developed, each with their own distinct personality. No one gets it easy in these books and you get to experience every emotion with them. The story is so deliciously complicated and 600 pages doesn't seem to be enough! I cannot wait for the third in the trilogy to come out!

Thank you to NetGalley and Flatiron books for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
