A collection of prose poetry aimed at healing and self love. Fat Girl Magic is not breaking the mold when it comes to confessional poetry and prose. Savage's writing is heartfelt but only skims the surface of a shallow pool. This is your garden variety "love yourself" Instagram poetry. Albeit, it's longer form than most in that genre and I do value her vision and storytelling. It just doesn't spark anything in me. I've seen it before and I'll see it again.

This type of poetry is going to connect with someone but just doesn't really do it for me.

My favorite poems are: "Pound Of Flesh", "Salt Circles", and "Open Season."

Ya’ll …………

I felt Fat Girl Magic by Kat Savage in my very soul. Kat is an excellent writer and is able to express humor, fear, sadness, vulnerability, etc with such vibrato. YES vibrato!

I cannot express enough how much I related. Which is sad in a way. As the human race, we need to do better!

I absolutely adored this collection of works. I cried a few times throughout the collection and even more so at the authors note. This really touched my heart and made me feel so incredibly seen as a fat woman myself and I truly believe this is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for accepting my request for the arc of this book as this has really changed my view point on both how I feel about myself and how other may think of me being in the body I am. The illustrations by the authors daughter also touched me because it's showing that we're accepted no matter what we look like; all that matters is how we perceive ourselves and that should be the absolute goddess that we are!

I really enjoyed this book of poems.

It was a lovely read, heart breaking and tender but also courageous and strong. I think it would also make a great gift.

I was a little surprised to find in the about the author section that she lives with her husband and children as it felt very much like it was written by a single powerful woman.

Overall a good read. Thank you for the arc.

I think this was wonderful. As always I think poetry is deeply personal and it either works for you or not and it definitely worked for me. As a fat person I related to so many of the poems in this collection. The shame, you cary with you daily is something non fat people will never understand. I thank the author for writing this, not just for themselves but also for other fat people who need to hear this. We exist and are just and valid and wonderful as every other person.

Cute and subversive collection of poems about body image, coming from a relatable, tender and funny place.
It is accompanied by empowering little illustrations,
Hey, I wish this were longer.

Fat Girl Magic by Kat Savage was an interesting read. I loved poetry and try to read a wide variety of authors. I even will push through when certain topic come up with opinions I do not necessarily agree with. I believe reading different views on the world is important for empathy and better living in this world. For me Kat was not my favorite and yet, I did feel compelled to keep reading. I believe her voice was well stated and understood.

I read and felt this book.

I had a lump in my throat for most of it and really enjoyed the poetry and the spells.

It was really refreshing to read and feel so many different voices and perspectives.

The poem about 10 pounds was particularly poignant,

The drawings are beautiful and engaging too.

My only criticism is it felt too short. A good idea in concept but I felt it could have had more depth with even more voices and poems.

Overall, would recommend to those living in larger bodies.

This was such a phenomenal, moving collection of poetry. The author’s vulnerability and talent came through so clearly, making each poem impactful and relatable. I think it’s a book a lot of people need and will feel seen by.

This was an amazing collection that is so needed in the book market right now. I was absolutely obsessed with the personal aspect and the way that effect was extended to the bold women who shared their struggles as well. I had my daughter read this one as well and she very much enjoyed the whole collection.

Kat Savage has done it again. She never fails to invoke all of the emotions with her words. This one hit close to home for me as I'm a "fat girl" myself. This gave me all of the emotions. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this amazing work together.

Fat Girl Magic is the ultimate collection of poetry for the girlies struggling with body image, and the little sprinkle of magic just makes it that much better.

For someone like me who struggles with how others perceive my body, this collection just felt like such a safe place, and I loved it. The illustrations that accompany the poetry is just a perfect addition.

Highly recommend you give this a go if you are struggling with body image, or just looking for a hug in the shape of a poetry collection.

Big thanks to Netgalley, Central Avenue Publishing, and Kat Savage for allowing me to read this incredible collection of poetry.

This was an incredible poetry collection that I adored from start to finish. I sat and devoured it all in the one sitting, and it’s definitely one I’ll go back to.

It was so raw and honest and relatable. The author did a brilliant job at encapsulating how so many women feel about their bodies and how others treat women based on their size. I loved the addition of witchcraft and how it was used alongside learning to love the skin you are in, and how you should always be yourself. It added a unique twist that made it different from other poetry collections. Definitely an author to watch and I’m excited to read more from them in the future.

This book is really lovely. As someone who is new to reading poetry, I found I really liked the writing style. If you are someone “curvy”, thin, obese, petite, or even just someone with their own body image struggles,.. You will eat this up. Often times nodding along or internally shouting YES! It was nice being validated, and reminded others feel the same way as I do. The book cover and overall aesthetic and style of the book are fabulous.

This was amazing. I haven’t been in a poetry mood in a while and this book and its subject called to me in a visceral way.
While I wouldn’t say this was a poetry book, the musings and reflections on the author’s relation to her body feel relatable to every single girl or woman who has ever felt judged by the size or shape of hers. This was moving, empowering, sad and full of righteous anger and love. Kat Savage weaves witchcraft into her thoughts and put them on paper to create a space where we can find ourselves and be seen. I can’t even say how glad I am that I stumbled onto this perfect gem.

This is an amazing collection. I have been following Kat Savage for years now and I'm so glad to finally see her shine for everyone. This collection was so deeply personal and helped heal some of my body trauma. Savage's words are like a hug I didn't know I needed. Raw but beautiful poems about loving yourself and the body you have. Highly recommend for everyone.
