This is the perfect holiday second chance romance to kick the holiday season off. The story starts after Jess and Nick have been broken off for a few years and while being on the writing industry, they have to face each other for the first time since they broke off. Jess has to present an award to her nemesis and she questions her ability to do so but nevertheless decides to how off in a revenge dress to show Nick what he lost.

As the story continues, we see a couple fighting it’s way back together as they are both writing their own books while being stuck in the same hotel after a snow storm during the night of the awards. Jess and Nick had me giggling and feeling excited while their explored the revival of their once love story. I really enjoyed reading the book and it was able to transport me into a cute Christmas scene.

Tropes:
* Second chance romance
* Forced proximity
* It’s always been you
* “Enemies” to lovers

Falon hooked me in with Lease on love, absolutely loved just my type and right on cue, I couldn't wait to dive into this one (well, actually, I could. I've put this one off in anticipation of a possible book hangover 🤣🤩 and am glad I have Change of Heart also in my ARC pile to tide me over).

A perfect read to get into cozy season (no spooky season for me over here!) A little second chance and a little work place romance with the legandary one bed trope (i mean its a classic for a reason, works every time), stuck at the inn due to snow, and two romance authors working on their next books with earily similar plot lines (she's all about the HEA, and he isn't due to well, their relationship ending years ago). When their publisher suggests collaborating on a their books together, we get to watch Nick and Jess come together to combine their stories, rehashing where things went wrong and fall in love all over again and it was just the sweetest. With one of my favorite grand gestures, a snowy inn backdrop and sizzling chemistry, simply put, I loved Jess and Nick's story. Curling up with a fuzzy blanket, the smell of brownies baking in the background and getting lost in the winter wonderland of a story, it had all the makings of a perfect fall day. 🥰

Thank you Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the ARC in exchange for my review!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC! This book was swoony and adorable! A perfect holiday read. I am a sucker for a book about books and a second chance romance. So if you also love those tropes you will really enjoy Ballard’s latest!

Second chance • forced proximity • same bed trope • Romance authors

“So I haven’t met anyone I wanted to settle down with, big deal. May I remind you, you are also single?”
“Because I want to be, not because I’m still mooning over the one who got away. Who you broke up with, might I add.”

Falon has done it again. I read a small number of holiday romances each year and I am so glad I had the pleasure of this ARC being one of them. This book has the perfect of banter, hallmark movie and little sprinkle of spice. There is not way you can’t love Jess and Nick, please add this to your holiday tbr asap!

3.5 stars

This was a cozy, holiday themed romcom full of tropes like only one bed, snowed in at an inn, and second chance romance.
Unfortunately, the book felt a little flat for me. I loved the chemistry between the characters in the flashback chapters but felt like it just didn’t come through in the present day. You don’t get a lot of information about the characters other than that they’re writers so I couldn’t really understand them. For the majority of the book all they do is argue. And not in a fun banter-y way. Jess calls Nick a misogynist for… offering to let her sleep in his hotel room instead of the lobby when they’re snowed in? She was constantly picking fights with him for no reason.
There was also absolutely no communication between the characters. They very clearly needed to resolve their past issues but they both blatantly refused to do so. I also felt like Nick was crossing a line by constantly hitting on Jess while still refusing to talk about why they broke up and while she was still very clearly angry with him.
The story does come back around at the ending, which I really enjoyed. I just wish the buildup to it would have been more satisfying and not so frustrating.

I am a huge fan of second chance romances and Falon Ballard’s other novels, so it was of no surprise that I loved this book. Jess has been asked to present an award to one of the biggest authors at her publisher’s holiday party. It could be great exposure for her, but the award is being present to her ex-boyfriend Nick, who she hasn’t seen since he broke her heart five years ago. She decides to present the award and avoid Nick, however a snowstorm and a room mix-up results in the two sharing a room and spending a lot more time together than initially expected.

I loved the cozy holiday vibes of this book and loved the flashbacks to past Christmas’ for the background on Nick and Jess as a couple. Nick and Jess had such great chemistry and the dual POV was perfect way for that to come through.

Even though I am not a big fan of Christmas or holiday themed stories, I couldn’t resist another Falon Ballard novel. I am happy to say, this story felt so cozy and heartwarming, reminding me of only the very best parts of Christmas.

I am such a sucker for a second chance romance, I flew through this book. Nick and Jess were so clearly perfect for each other that it was easy to root for them. Such a sweet love story with a satisfying happily ever after.

Falon writes cute romcoms, and her newest is a holiday-themed romcom!

🎄Dual POV
❤️Author FMC + MMC
🎄Forced proximity
❤️One bed
🎄Second chance
❤️Steamy

Jess and Nick broke up 5 years ago, but everyone deserves a second chance…right??

At a holiday party they reconnect and, it being a romcom and all, a bunch of tropes come into play and force them together. I loved Jess’s inner monologue, and I loved Nick’s honesty. They had chemistry and their story was fitting. I loved that they were both romance authors, so it added to the story-within-a-story element.

Short and sweet, a quick read I finished in one day.

Thank you Putnam and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

(It did feel odd reading a holiday book when I’m trying to fit in a few spooky reads, BUT it’s out in time for the holiday season so you all can read it!)

3.5 Stars. Jessica is a struggling romance author whose favorite time of year used to be Christmas. When her publisher asks her to come to an event at a remove ski resort she is initially excited until she is told that she will be presenting her ex and annoyingly successful writing rival, Nick, with an award. Both Nick and Jess are still sad about their breakup years ago and a mixup with rooms means they are stuck together while snowed in. Both are on deadline and the forced proximity means that they accidentally end up writing books about their past and current situation, leading their editor to suggest they write the book together.

This book is sugar cookies and puppies cute and sweet, which is honestly what a lot of people want in a holiday romance. Think Hallmark movie with steamy scenes. It’s a short, easy, and predictable read that can easily read in stolen minutes of downtime during the hustle and bustle of the holidays. It didn’t really work for me, but I’m not a festive person. I really liked Jess but really struggled with Nick and honestly if I was Jess I would not take him back, but I hold grudges. I do love a book that is self aware and am a sucker for the only one bed trope. Overall I had a good time, but this probably wont make my list of books to reread over the holidays (it’s September as a write this as this is when publishing has decided to release holiday books).

Enemies to lovers, second chance romance? Sign me up. And a Christmas romance. I loved the chemistry between Nick & Jess. And I liked the dual point of view. I love knowing what they’re both thinking & how they’re reacting to each other. A short, sweet holiday romance that I’ve already recommended to friends.

*I received an advanced copy for review. This is my own opinion.*

I'm pretty sure Falon Ballard is listed on my netgalley "automatic reads" list and for good reason. This short and sweet holiday romance is a bit of a departure from her usual character studies, but I think I enjoyed it as much as I've enjoyed her previous work.

Jess and Nick (yes, there is a New Girl reference and I wish we'd seen their first kiss because Nick and Jess: TV version have one of the best first kisses of all time, so I'd love to see how they compare...anyway) broke up years ago around Christmas, and they've both been sad little romance writers since then. Nick is a...Nicholas Sparks type "romance" writer and Jess writes actual romance (HEA guaranteed). She hates him for breaking her heart. But when they get snowed in together in a cozy little Christmas Inn with ONLY ONE BED.

I love a holiday romance, and I think this is such a good one because it's not super long and drawn out but we get all the emotional beats we need! Also, as a romance writer, the grand gesture made me cry. Nick gets a 12/10 best grand gesture award.

Thanks to Netgalley, GP Putnam & Sons, and Falon Ballard for the arc!

I will read every one of Falon Ballard's books while searching for the high I got from LEASE ON LOVE. That one was so good, and I unfortunately haven't enjoyed her other books as much, but this one was a close second! It's quite different in tone but it was just plain fun. I didn't read the synopsis going in but was pleasantly surprised to find it's about two romance authors having a second chance romance of their own:) I love a holiday rom-com and will highly recommend this one for a short and sweet read with no heartwrenching third-act breakup. Plus it featured a snowed-in inn at Christmas and that set the vibe quite nicely.

I loved this book. Such a fun second chance, enemies/rivals to lovers story. The angst and pining is great in this. I also really love the forced proximity/sharing a bed thing the story has going on. This fulfills so many romcom tropes that my heart just adored it. Falon Ballard is an autobuy author for me and she didn't disappoint with this one!

Thanks to the publisher, author, and Negalley for the ARC!

4.5/5

"He was always the best thing about Christmas."

Second chance romance between two writers who are now exes. Finding themselves stuck in a winter storm at an inn that doesn't have enough room, they are forced to face each other and their past while sharing one bed.
Told dual POV with flashbacks to Christmas' past, Nick and Jess have amazing chemistry. Both characters are relatable and this book is very swoon worthy. Falon Ballard is one of my favorites to write her characters perfectly flawed and utterly endearing.

Is it setup like a Hallmark movie? Yes, but she adds depth and layers to her characters that make it so much more than a fun holiday read. You root for each character and hope they get the happy ending typically reserved for their characters.

I didn't love the reason for their breakup and felt it was a bit shallow and selfish on Nick's part, but his grand gesture at the end made it all worth it in the end.

Highly recommend for a quick, lighthearted holiday read. Also, when two writers write steamy scenes together...yes please.

This was a super quick audiobook and loved it so much! I always enjoy Fallon’s books and this was no exception.

The dual POV really made a difference and helped understand the feelings for both leads. It is always fun reading books about authors, book publishers or librarians. I think any romance bookworm will love this book.

This would be the perfect December read!

"I can't endure forced proximity with my ex for much longer. I am not cut out to be a romance heroine."

This book was so cute and cozy, perfect amount of spice! This is a perfect Christmas read!

This is a beautiful second chance romance, two romance authors are stranded at a Christmas themed in during a snow storm. Jessica was heartbroken by Nick, this is the last place she wants to be. But when they get snowed in after an award ceremony, a reservation gone wrong and only one bed, could this be their second chance?

This book was like sipping hot cocoa next to a fireplace, I loved every seconds of it! Nick and Jess are adorable, I LOVED them! I love reading a book where the main character is an author, when they’re both authors even better! Even the side characters were so fun! I highly recommend adding this cute and short read to your holiday TBR 🎄❤️

Falon Ballard snagged me with the forced proximity and one bed tropes
(& Let's be honest, Nick & Jessica -- all I could see was New Girl, so I hope that's a silent nod to them lol)
She kept me.hooked with the holiday aspect and the inn 😍
There's just something about a love story at an inn.

I loved how quick I read this one.
It was just such a good little slice of Christmas.

Jess was totally relatable & a good FMC.

Wow I loved this story! I was sucked in right away by the plot and the characters. I forget how much I love Falon Ballard's writing until I'm reading one of her books! Lease on Love was a surprise favorite a couple of years ago, and I felt that same instant-obsession with this story! I think it'll be a hit around the holidays for sure.

Thank you to Penguin Group Putnam for the eARC of this one via NetGalley! These are my honest thoughts.

I thought the second-chance at Christmas with Nick and Jess was the perfect setting. Everything about this story was wrapped up in a neat little package, but with a realness and sass that made the story authentic. In this tale, the second-chance, lovers-to-enemies, forced proximity, only one bed at the inn at Christmastime, snow storm, semi-co-workers are stuck at a quaint little inn after their workplace holiday party gets snowed in. It all felt very meta, and I know Ballard was providing commentary on what it's like to be a published author, and I loved that look into a writer's world.

Everything about the story was ROMANCE, but it was also... real? Like, communicating in relationships is hard work! And the miscommunication trope gets such a bad rap these days, but it's also the most realistic trope we all experience IRL? So I loved how Ballard incorporated that into her book, by forcing her characters to talk about writing characters with miscommunication.

The spice was SPICING. Big fan.

This gets a solid 5-star rating for me. This will be a book I'm recommending to all my friends around the holidays. I loved it so much.

I am a sucker for a holiday romcom. Love, spice, AND Christmas?! Sign me up. So I was really excited to read All I Want is You, it checked all of the boxes. And for the most part it delivered. This book is really fun. Jess and Nick are sexy and talented and have off the charts chemistry. I loved their banter and the steamy scenes were well done. I just felt like the story was too rushed,their reunion didn't get enough of a chance to breathe and develop. I love second chance romance and forced proximity is a favorite trope, but this was missing something. The reason for their first breakup felt too flimsy considering how in love they were. I still really enjoyed this and loved that it is a quick read.
