Jessica has always dreamed of her own happily ever after. Until then, she writes romance novels to mend her heart, left bruised by her ex, Nick, who now competes with her as a successful author of love stories - ones without happy endings. When work brings them both to a remote inn just before Christmas, and a snowstorm forces them to share a room, they find that their mutual irritation might spark the creativity they need. As they turn their conflict into fiction, will Jessicaโs heart find a new ending? Nick is the last person she should fall for, but he might just be what she truly wants for Christmas.
This is the 2nd book I've read from this author, after Right on Cue (3.5 stars from me). It was predictable - but spicy - and for someone who loves all things Christmas, I enjoyed the setting and time. Plus, it was fairly short, and I think the length was just about right for what the book was trying to achieve. I enjoyed it while reading, it was fun, but I don't think it's one that will stay with me.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC opportunity!
This was such a cute fun Christmas story. It gave me the same feeling as a Hallmark movie, and i mean that in the best way.
Jess and Nick are both so likable, even when they dont like each other (well mostly Jess on that part, but you get it). The spice was good, but the banter and connection is what i stayed for. I could really feel that they understood each other.
My only criticism is that Jess was so upset with him for ending things but she was literally telling her friends she didnt know if she could handle it? Girl. Lets give him a break on that.
Overall, its a very fun quick Christmas read!
This is the perfect Christmas romance and one you definitely need to read this holiday season! Second chance, forced proximity, only one bed โ say less! And add in that both MCโs are romance authors (but ๐ต๐ฆ๐ค๐ฉ๐ฏ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐บ only one of them is, IYKYK) and I was immediately sold.
I loved the story and what inevitably brought these characters back together. They had some great banter, both through texts/DMs and in person. It was funny, sweet, and had a lot of tension! Not to mention some great spice.
Thank you to NetGalley, Putnam Books, and Falon Ballard for an advanced copy of this book!
This book follows two romance writers, Jess and Nick, who dated five years ago. The two authors havenโt run into each other again until theyโre both scheduled to attend their publisherโs holiday party, where Jess is presenting Nick with a prestigious award. While Jess does not want to attend, she knows she must for her career. One thing leads to another and the exes are stranded in a hotel near the holidays together.
While I have several of Falon Ballardโs novels on my TBR, this is my first time reading one of her books and I loved it. This book is a quick holiday read and is simply magical. I love a good holiday title and this one put me in the holiday spirit, despite it only being August. This book felt like a Hallmark movie with some spicy scenes thrown in the mix. It was a slow burn and I was cheering for a second chance at romance for Jess and Nick throughout the novel. I canโt wait to recommend this book to my book club for the upcoming holiday season. Add this to your TBRs if you love a holiday romance and spice!
I loved this one so much I think this might be Ballard's best yet. First things first, the main characters are Nick and Jess and as a New Girl lover I was obsessed with this choice. I probably personally could have done without literally mentioning New Girl but it's such a small thing.
This dual POV holiday romance follows two romance writers, 5 years post breakup. Nick is the one who dumped Jess, and she has hated him ever since. She also hates that none of his romances have a HEA (happily ever after) (and rightfully so...the romance genre requires a HEA sorry to burst everyone's bubbles!). He's had an amazing and successful career post breakup while Jess is worried whether her publisher, the same as Nick's, will even pick up the option for her next book. To add insult to injury, the publisher asks Jess to present Nick with the publisher's best romance writer award at their holiday party in a cozy inn in upstate New York, hinting that Jess's career could use the boost. Nick, meanwhile, is still madly in love with his ex, of course, and wonders if seeing her again could be the opportunity he needs to renew their connection even though he feels like he can't tell her the truth about why he broke up with her all those years ago.
Oh, and both he and Jess are suffering from a bit of writer's block. When Nick and Jess start speaking to each other, it ignites a spark for both of them to write their next books. Add in all of the usual holiday and romance cliches which are kind of fun here because both characters are romance writers so it's all tongue-in-cheek. There's a snowstorm and they're stuck at the inn! There's been a mixup with hotel rooms and there's only one room! And there's only one bed! And oh they both realize they're writing the same new book: a second-chance holiday romance! Their publisher suggests that they write the book together because Jess could use the boost and Nick's publisher is tired of his no HEA schtick.
There's a lot of angst between Nick and Jess and I loved getting both of their points of view. There's some very spicy moments and they have so much chemistry together. They know each other so well and in a way that no one else does, so it feels believable. Even their "miscommunication" trope which they both realize is goofy, but sometimes too real, didn't feel like a cop-out. It's the perfect little second-chance holiday romance, just like the book they write together.
I absolutely loves this second chance holiday romance. There is forced proximity, multiple points of view that really add to the story, time jumps(which you need), and great character chemistry. I wanted to read this book because it was a romance(which I love) and a quick read but I was not expecting the emotions I would go through while reading this book! There were points I was laughing and then crying(both sad and happy tears). This is a great read. I was sad for it to end. Thank you NetGalley, Penguin Group Putnam, and the author for the experience in reading this book.
Another winner from Falon Ballard! While this is a holiday read, it can definitely be read at any time since it isnโt too heavy on the holidays. I loved the second chance romance between Jess and Nick and that they acted like adults and talked through their issues which we love to see!
This was my first-time reading Fallon Ballard and I read it in one sitting. Second chance Romance. Both MCโs are writers and set at Christmas time. I like both POVโs, the witty banter and the spice scenes. I would recommend when needing a Christmas book and I canโt wait to read the authorโs other books. Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC!
First I would like to thanks Netgalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC of this novel.
I loved this book. It was so cute, quick holiday romance. I loved that both characters were romance authors and so we got to see the inner workings of how the books were written. I also love a good second chance romance. Nick and Jess really worked for me. I appreciated that they were able to communicate (one of my biggest pet-peeves in romance books) but author also made them relatable and realistic with their choices.
I think my only complaints about the book was it was a little too short and felt a little rushed during the first half of the book. The second was I could have used a little more Christmasy descriptions in the first half of the book. The last little third of the book really helped with the Christmas/holiday feels but the first half was a little lacking and felt a little rushed.
Overall I really enjoyed the book. A very solid 4.25 stars for me.
My sister has been singing Talon Ballard's praises for a while now. She has constantly encouraged me to read her books. They have been on my TBR list for a while and I am so sad I hadn't picked them up earlier. After meeting Ms Ballard this summer at SteamyLit and receiving this arc (thank you NetGalley and the publisher) I had to push it to the top of my TBR list. And boy am I so glad I did. I finished this book in less than 24 hours because I could not put it down. Two former loves, both romance writers who split up and now come together in a second chance romance. You will find some of our favorite tropes in this novel including the forced proximity and one bed trope. All tied up with a Christmas wonderland plaid decorated hotel. And there is spice! I was surprised about it since my sister normally likes her closed door or fade to black romance scenes but she actually told me this is Ms Ballard's spiciest book yet. It was just the perfect amount of spice. And that ending...I was curious where we would go, if we would get our HEA. I cannot wait to read her earlier works and hopefully see her again at Steamylit next year!

Boy do I love romance stories about authors and books. This is my second Falon Ballard romcom and I really enjoyed it! ๐๐น๐น ๐ ๐ช๐ฎ๐ป๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฌ๐ผ๐ is super a quick and easy read with great tension and plenty of swoon-worthy moments.
Our MCs Nick and Jess (cue New Girlโs ๐๐๐ค'๐จ ๐๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐๐ง๐ก) clearly still have a spark between them years after their breakup. Falon does a great job capturing the tension and complexity of rekindling an old flame. Nick and Jess work through a series of misunderstandings and miscommunications (just talk to each other, guys!) while dealing with their unresolved feelings. I loved the snowstorm and forced proximity aspect as well ๐ฅ
Fans of second chance romances will ๐น๐ผ๐๐ฒ this one! Itโs also a great winter romance to get you in the holiday spirit!

This was so cute! I adored it. Read it in one sitting. "
It was festive, flirty, and full of holiday cheerโthis Christmas romcom is pure feel-good magic!"
I really enjoy Falon Ballard and this one was no different.
I really enjoy the second chance romance trope and this novel hit it perfectly. The breakup was for a stupid reason (like every other SCR) but what I loved was that the MMC was fully aware that he was in the wrong the whole time and that he was stupid. It was refreshing.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC, can't wait for the next Ballard book!
At this point, I'd read anything that Falon Ballard puts out and "All I Want Is You" perfectly fits into that. It's a rivals-to-lovers, second chance, forced proximity (with an only-one-bed trope to boot), dual-perspective holiday romance novel. The two protagonists, Jessica and Nick have so much banter together that makes this read so fun and cute. It reads quite quickly and fast becomes another Ballard book that had me completely captivated to keep reading. "All I Want Is You" has compelling language as ever, like, clearly it's well-written. Even though this book is short and sweet in terms of page length, the character journeys are still rich, full and engaging. Overall, this book was equally endearing, sweet, wholesome and spicy. It's full of tropes and tropes within tropes (because of a meta sub-plot) that help make "All I Want Is You" feel like a quick holiday read that you can polish off when the snow makes it difficult to leave your house. I literally finished this book again and am already planning a re-read.
All I Want is You is a heartfelt and steamy Christmas romance! I love second chance romances, and Christmastime is the best time to forgive and love again. Nick and Jess are both romance writers with different views on many things, including whether or not happily ever afters are possible in their books and their own lives. They both have a lot of feelings to sort outโafter years of hurt can they let themselves be vulnerable again? I loved being with Nick and Jess as they sorted out their complicated feelings, and opened themselves up to the possibility thar maybe they could get their happy ending.
This book was fun but wasn't anything super special for me. However, take this review with a grain of salt because two of my least favorite tropes are second chance romance and writer main characters. Now, what two tropes does this book have? Oh that's right, both of those. So honestly, I commend Falon Ballard for writing a book with two of my least favorite tropes and still making me rate it 3.5 stars. If you happen to be a fan of one or both of these tropes, you'll probably adore this book. (If you're asking why I would pick up a book that so obviously had tropes I don't like, I really don't have an answer for you).
Normally, I dislike second chance romances because either the reason they broke up was stupid, or it was a very valid reason to break up and they should NOT get back together. This novel leans towards the first. The reason Jess and Nick broke up was, i my opinion, silly. But, what I love about this book is that they acknowledge it! Of course the reason for breaking up was stupid, they're destined to be together. But sometimes people do stupid stuff. And when the characters acknowledge that they were being silly, it makes me feel better about them getting back together.
One trope I do love (not really a trope) is a Christmas book! It's August and already I have read 5 Christmas books so I consider myself to be an expert on the topic. Which means it comes as high praise when I say, this was a great Christmas book. I think the Christmas-loving girlie falling in love with the scrooge-ish man is a bit played out, but I still really enjoyed reading about Jess igniting Nick's Christmas spirit.
I would definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a warm, Christmassy book this Holiday season.
I devoured this book! I could not get enough, I didn't want to put it down. A beautiful second chance romance. The author did a fabulous job with the characters. I was rooting for them every step of the way. His grand gesture was incredibly perfect. I'm happy they both finally got their hea. Thanks to the author and publisher for allowing me an ARC of this book. This is the perfect Christmas romance!
Second chance romances usually entail a very dumb break up and this one was dumb but I didnโt feel like the author held it over my head too much the entire book to make it a super dramatic and painful reveal? I mean the hero the whole book is like โYeah I was an idiotโ and then we all just agree with him later on. But omg the grand gesture is so stinking sweet and gooey that I loved it so dang much. There are so many things about this book with the two MCs being romance authors that felt like a love letter to the romance community. I enjoyed all the conversations about writing and plotting, tropes and how romances REQUIRES an HEA. I really really enjoyed reading this book.
Another great read by Falon! She has become an auto-buy author for me! Readers will enjoy this holiday read. Love a dual POV and the banter was chef's kiss!
I absolutely LOVED this! Iโm all for Christmas books, Especially as Christmas is coming up in a few months. I devoured this read so quickly. If you love Christmas books, & romance this book is 100% for you! I hope you love it as much as I did if you decide to pick it up.
