This kind of felt like a strange Nicholas Sparks dig…?? I made it 10% in but I feel sort of uncomfortable reading. Dropping 5 stars and moving on.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin for the ARC.
This was a second chance romance between two writers. Jess had to play nice and present an award to her ex at this Christmas award banquet. He dumped her years ago without giving her a reason. Nick was still in love with her even after 5 years had passed. I can honestly say that it was a fast paced, spicy Christmas love story. My only small issue was that the reasons why he broke up with her was completely frustrating. It didn’t make sense nor did I buy it. And 5 years had passed! The ending though was cute. He definitely redeemed himself in the end. Overall, it was a good and spicy romance. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my review. I will post on Goodreads.
4.5 rounded up. I am forever a huge Falon Ballard fan and this book was no exception! It was such a cute Christmas read without being too in your face Christmas. It was shorter than some of her others, so I didn't feel as though the romance was as flushed out as we are used to, but I still really really enjoyed the story. You genuinely cannot go wrong with any of Falon Ballard's books.
All I Want Is You was such a nice break from reality. It’s a fun, quick, holiday read that’ll take your mind off of any holiday stress happening in your life. It has second chance romance, one bed, snowed in, and romance authors finding love tropes. Second chance romance isn’t my favorite trope but I didn’t mind it in this book. The reasoning for the initial break up isn’t learned until later in the book and while I thought the characters were silly for breaking up in the first place, it also worked out for the relationship overall so they could grow as adults and then come together again. I wish we had some more details about Nicks relationship with his family and how that has impacted him over the time the couple was broken up. Overall I enjoyed reading the book and would recommend it to someone looking for a holiday romance. I would also recommend this book to someone stuck in a reading rut. With the length and the pacing, it kept my attention even though I have been struggling with finishing books lately. I look forward to September when the book is published and everyone else can read it.
All I Want Is You is a quintessential holiday second chance romance (and there’s only one bed at this snowed-in Inn, y’all!)
Romance writer exes, Jess and Nick, are at completely different points in their careers five years post breakup when they see each other again at their publisher’s Christmas party. After some forced proximity, and some outside influence, Jess and Nick begin co-writing a holiday second chance romance novel. All I Want Is You is told in dual POV, with flashbacks to Jess and Nick’s first three Christmases together, as they write and begin their own second chance romance.
Within this short and sweet read, author Falon Ballard has delivered a cozy, light, and heartwarming story worthy of our favorite Christmas movie channel.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam | G.P. Putnam’s Sons for an advanced copy of All I Want is You in exchange for my honest review.
All I Want Is You by Salon Ballard is the perfect cozy holiday romance that fans of Beach Read by Emily will absolutely devour.
I love a good second chance romance and when they are seemingly rivals and I thought Ballard achieved that in such a sweet and clever way. Both writers and with a past being forced to play nice and work together again but I really loved how she included past moments between them and readers get to see their character development and grow up and learn from their past mistakes. I loved seeing them bond and support each other and seeing the theme of the magic of Christmas that felt like the coziest book to read by the fire. I highly recommend this book to readers that love a good second chance romance and rivals to lovers. I thought this book was witty, sweet, emotional and swoon. Nick and Jess couldn't have been more perfect. They are opposites but complimented each other so well and I rooted for their relationship right off the bat because their chemistry was so strong. If you love cozy romance books, this book is a must read.
loved this 2nd chance romance about writers who end up falling back in love and figuring out their issues. loved that it was told in their point of view. Loved that he finally came up with a happy ending .
This was so wonderful! I immediately fell in love for Jess - her hopes and dreams, optimism for the holiday season, and heartbreak were all relatable. Nick's defense mechanisms he built to avoid feeling rejected by others were devastating and made him so human. This is a must read dual POV second chance romance.
This book turned out ok, I wasn’t in love with it and didn’t hate it. The dialogue portions were fantastic and well thought out but anytime there was actions, movement, activities happening, even intimate moments etc, it was described in like three sentences. It was a short book and I feel like it could have been expanded a bit when describing anything non-dialogue related.
The plot feels very Inception. The author writes about an author who can’t write a book and ends up writing a book about her own life in fiction. Is that was the actual author did as well? Was she on a deadline and didn’t have an idea so wrote about herself? Hard to say.
Decent read but felt uninspired.
I will read anything and everything Falon Ballard writes! I've been a fan since Lease on Love and every one of her books has been a 3.5 or higher for me. This is the first time it's been an undoubted five star read! It could be because I'm a Christmas person or because I'm a sucker for forced proximity but I ate this up so quickly. My favorite thing about this book was the way it handled miscommunication. I normally hate that trope but Ballard executed it so well here. Highly recommend.
AHHHHHHHHH THIS BOOK WAS SO CUTEEEE! I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would because, well, I'm reading a Christmas book in the middle of May. I had to stop reading multiple times because I kept squealing. The way the author writes and describes characters is simply gorgeous and I will need to check out her other books. I read this book so quickly because I quite literally couldn't put it down.
Falon has been one of my favorite authors so when I got a copy of this ARC I was beyond excited!
I’m an absolute sucker for second chance romance! Then I find out that there’s forced proximity? Sign me up!
Nick is gone for her and I loved his grand gesture so much! I adored Jess, with her sass and love of peppermint mochas (wait am I Jess??)
And the spice… DID NOT MISS!! Loved it!
Thanks to NetGalley I received an advanced electronic copy of the book to read and provide a review.
3.5 stars rounded up because I’m feeling generous.
I was skeptical about reading a Christmas arc in May, however, this was a comfort cozy second chance romance with a bit of enemies to lovers set in the wintry Christmas season. Did I mention there’s only one bedroom left in the inn?!
This was a quick and adorable read. It was simple and predictable, though the “big” reveal in the third act was not entirely what I expected! If you’re looking for a cute Holiday book with some spice, this is for you.
This was an incredibly quick read- so much so that I unintentionally finished it in a day, but unfortunately not in the oh-my-god-I-am-eating-this-up finish a book in a day kind of way. I struggled to connect with the characters and felt like I only saw them at surface level, rather than deeply. Something about romance authors writing about romance authors always makes me cringe a little- so considering this was that but doubled, I knew I was subjecting myself to a likely disconnect. Outside of that, I felt like the 'spice' scenes were abruptly placed- particularly the first one in the flashback to their first Christmas. On the topic of the flashbacks, I thought all three of them didn't add much to the story. If you are going to do flashbacks, I think more than 3 are necessary.
I was disappointed in the lack of groveling on Nick's part and the fact that Jess allowed him back into her life so easily, even without an explanation. Something that also stood out to me was towards the end when Jess was writing a part of their coauthored novel where it basically eluded to the couple only having a pause rather than a break- in turn meaning Nick and Jess only had a pause. 5 years is certainly more than a pause in my book.
I don't think we were ever told the ages of these characters but I honestly found them both to be a little immature, which is similar to what I felt about the characters in the authors previous novel. I've found that I have been missing the emotion I felt from Falon's first book in her most recent releases.
At the end of the day, this is a quick, hallmark-like holiday read. There will be plenty of people who will enjoy it!
Thank you to Falon, Putnam, and Netgally for the arc which was provided in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute holiday romcom! I love a second chance romance and Falon Ballard’s books so I knew I would enjoy this!
It’s not my favorite by her and there was a bit too much spice for me, but it was a fun time! I feel like it’d be even better read around the holidays!
Highly recommend this book!! A sweet and spicy holiday read!
Two romance writers, exes, one bed, AND snowed in- what more could you ask for in a holiday romance? Nick is a successful "romance" writer whose books don't have HEA's and Jess is a romance writer who continues to keep her coffee shop job while being a romance writer. They were in a relationship five years ago, until Nick unexpectedly broke up with Jess right as their careers were taking off. They are thrust back together at an awards ceremony for the publisher they both work for and Jess has to present Nick with an award. Nick seems to still have feeling for Jess. She isn't even sure why he broke things off five years ago, so how can she trust that giving him a second chance will lead to an HEA when he can't even write one?
This book was an entertaining festive read with heart! Nick and Jess's chemistry was palpable as was their mutual pining. I enjoyed the Nick and Jess reference to New Girl. I really loved that even after years apart they were honest with each other, when I feel like in other books this may have been pushed off or avoided until later in the book. It made me respect Nick more and made me admire Jess and her hard hitting questions.
Thank you to Putnam for this ARC. I highly recommend picking this up for a fun holiday read!
4.5 ⭐️
Such a cute, fun and easy read.
We have 2 romance authors in different stages in their career. Nick is the highly sought out best selling romance author, and Jess who's struggling to make ends meet romance author. When Jess was needed to make an introduction as the one who will present an award to Nick, they were forced to communicate.
It's a lot of tropes in one book: Second-chance romance, forced proximity, kinda enemies-to-lovers, one bed trope and many more.
I flew through this book, and honestly, it's really good and right off the bat, we saw they still love each other and they got some insane chemistry that I can feel it. I love how they both are professional, but at the same time can be petty at times.
I was really intrigued about why they broke up in the first place, and when I reached that conclusion, it was such a let down. Maybe I got my expectations way too high, but I honestly got so frustrated that it ruined the book for me, I gave it 4-stars.
Overall, it's a good book and it feels like Hallmark romcom movie. Really good Christmas read, but I read it during summer and I still love it.
Thank you NetGalley and Putnam's Sons Publishing for my E-ARC!
This is a perfect second change holiday romance! The plot being about two romance writers living out romance tropes in real life almost sounded too good to be true, but the book was exactly what I hoping it would be from start to finish. This book pulled me in immediately and was a perfect cozy and heartfelt holiday read.
If you know me in real life, then you know my name is Jessica aka Jess and I’m obsessed with Christmas. Oh and I love New Girl…sooo a Christmas romcom where the main characters are Nick and Jess - I can’t even.
Falon Ballard never misses for me. This was a cozy, quick, heartfelt story that was full of the most delicious tension. Jess and Nick are both romance writers who broke up several years ago but end up snowed in together right before Christmas. They are left to determine if their story can be a second chance romance with a true happily ever after.
I’m just obsessed with this story!!
As usual, Falon Ballard does it again. She is still one of my favorite authors. I love her writing style and it is so effortless. Characters are so relatable. Story line is a great. No critiques! I loved it!
