I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Discovering Christmas is a family-friendly book perfect for any family especially if there's mixed ages of the children as there's something for everyone.
Each day includes a devotion, scripture, conversation prompts, a guided prayer, and a simple, mess-free activity that relates to the story and devotion for that day. I loved that this book contains 25 days as this makes it like an activity advent calendar to teach the true meanings of Christmas and enjoy family time each day. The illustrations are detailed and beautiful with lots to discover.

I thoroughly enjoyed Discovering Christmas: A 25-Day Advent Devotional with Activities for Kids by Amanda Jass! Discovering Christmas is a highly interactive Advent Devotional for families. Each devotion is packed with questions and activities that will make make the meaning of Christmas have a lasting impact. I think Discovering Christmas: A 25-Day Advent Devotional with Activities for Kids would be perfect for Churches and Families to do together (or even for Churches or Christian Education places/schools to hand out to their families). I highly recommend Discovering Christmas: A 25-Day Advent Devotional with Activities for Kids by Amanda Jass. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

5 Stars.

🎄 The vibes:
- Christmas advent book with daily family activities for kids 4-8 years old.
- 25 days; Read About It (verse); Talk About It (talking prompts/questions); Go About It (activity); Pray About It.

🎄 My thoughts:
Each day has a short reading, a scripture, some age appropriate questions, an activity related to the lesson, and a short prayer at the end. All of it is very do-able. The activities are easy and quick to assemble (ie. Hot chocolate; flashlight dance; waiting game; sharing joy with others, etc…).

The pictures/art in the book are beautiful. There’s diversity and all types of people represented which I love to see. God made us all unique and we all look different on the outside - the illustrations in this book reflect those differences.

I think this is a great advent option if you have little kids! My kids will be 6 and 2 this winter, and I think this is a perfect age for this type of book.

Release date: September 10, 2024.

Discovering Christmas offers so much in one little package! Twenty-five days of devotions countdown to Christmas. Each includes a short, interesting devotion to introduce each topic, Read About It - a Scripture reading, Talk About It - discussion questions, Go About It - fun activities and Pray About It - a short prayer.

The author has done a marvelous job weaving together the Christmas story, the Gospel message from Genesis to the resurrection, and practical ways to live out our faith altogether in one continuous story format giving a wonderful foundation of God’s Word.

An example of the commentary included from Day 17 – “The Shepherds’ Visit” is: “The angels could have gone to kings and queens or other important leaders to announce Jesus’ birth. But instead, they went to some ordinary people who were just doing their daily work. Why did the angels do this? Maybe to show that Jesus came for all people – both the fancy and not-so-fancy.”

On the days the story of the Wise Men is told, it also addresses how important it is to have God’s Word when making decisions and the joy that comes from giving. One of the activities on these days is to look at the stars at night and locate various constellations.

The illustrations are colorful and depict a variety of families of different ages and diversity. The children also vary even including one in a wheelchair and one with vitiligo (an autoimmune condition which causes the skin to be two tones). I love that she included these not only so that children with these unique characteristics will feel included, but also to condition others towards acceptance of differences.

This book would be great for family devotions with children of varying ages or as a personal devotion to be read aloud or on their own.

Thank you to Netgalley and Tommy Nelson Publishing for the digital ARC. All opinions are my own.

A good advent devotional for families. Tells the christmas story in an age appropriate way for children from 4-8 and offers plenty of questions and activities to provide for an engaging Christmas season. The Christmas story is well told and covers all the important information in an age appropriate way. Each day is a good length of time and should keep kids engaged. I think most of the activities are great, though there were a few days that I thought they didn't quite match the day or were a little off topic. The illustrations were really good, lots of colours and details so should allow kids of all ages to enjoy. I especially liked that the illustrations showed kids from a variety of ethnicities, genders and even some kids with disabilities. This should allow all kids to see themselves in the book.

Overall a fun and engaging family devotional to help teach kids about the Christmas story and why it is important.

My husband and I are always looking for Christian books for our kids to read at night with them. As a mom, I am also always looking for new Christina books, especially devotionals to read through to fill my cup.

This Is Not Forever by Sarah Grace Hollis is full of hope when life is not going as planned, or you’re feeling stuck. It was such a reminder to always turn to the Lord when life gets shaky and the foundation doesn’t feel secure. I loved how deep the devotionals were, but how simple they were. I really was able to reflect on them throughout the day, and had the time and attention to soak into the Bible verses, and the encouragement to see me throughout the day. Release date is August 19.

Comfort and Joy by Gwen Lantz and Sarah-Leigh Gerber is a book I cant wait to reread during the holiday season. It was all about how to slow down and enjoy the moment in the season. It was a wonderful advent to walk through the season, and remember the importance of the holiday. Release date is September 2.

Discovering Christmas by Amanda Jass is one I already told my husband we are purchasing for the holiday season. It’s an advent devotional for kids for the Christmas season to focus on the meaning of the season. I loved the illustrations, the sweet words, and simplicity of this book. My kids will absolutely adore this one. It would make a really sweet gift too! Release date is September 9.

The Easter Lamb by John Greco was told so sweet from a child point of view of the story of Easter. The way he intertwines Easter and the Passover, and so simply but deeply explains it all together with such a gentleness for children was wonderful. Release date is December 16.

I’ve Got the Joy and He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands were absolutely adorable. My two little boys loved reading this before bed. We love to listen to the songs of these, and so it was fun to see them flipping the book and saying all the words. The illustrations are beautiful and so colorful for kids. A perfect gift! Release date is August 12.

Waiting Isn’t a Waste by Mark Vrogop is a book I have in my amazon cart. This is a fantastic book on the Sioux characteristics of waiting.
