I was in the mood to read a cute fall inspired love story. I love the idea of competing coffee shops. I’m so glad I decided to pick up this book in particular.
Lucy frustrated me a lot at times, but really began to grow into her self and I loved seeing that growth. Jack was a joy to read from, he gave such golden retriever vibes. Where Lucy was serious most of the time, Jack was cute in helping her find her authentic silliness. I also really enjoyed seeing Lucy’s relationship with her mom.
Overall, this was a very cute autumnal read. I love that I got some romance, some family dynamics, and a cute overall story. I highly recommend this book if you were looking for a sweet young adult book, focusing on character growth.
The combination of the blurb and cover really grabbed my attention. The fall mood created in the book was spot on and will make you want to take a fall trip - from the drinks at the cafe, to the fall festival, and all the fall treats in between make it really fun to read this time of year. One of the things that took me out of the book was the dialogue. I spent the majority of the time thinking the characters were in middle school based on the immaturity and pacing of the dialogue. As a former high school teacher, this is not how teenagers talk/interact.
Lucy is a high school student, working at her mom’s coffee shop, when a rival coffee chain sets up shop right across the street. Their son, Jack Harper, is sunshine incarnate and he tries to strike up a friendship with Lucy, but when an incident gets out of hand, the two are off to a rocky start. They strike up a deal, Jack will help Lucy with social media to improve the visibility of their shop, and Lucy will teach Jack how to bake.
Jack, the MMC, just took everything Lucy the FMC, threw his way and never reacted. He was always smiling at her even when she was putting him down. It was a very one sided enemies/rivals to lovers. Also, Lucy was dramatic, which was fine, but her mood swings left me unable to connect the dots between her tangents that her friend group tolerated. She was rightly worried about her mothers’ shop and their livelihood, but her actions seemed sporadic throughout and made it difficult to relate to her on any level. I think this novel had so much potential, and I would definitely try this author again, but I feel this book missed the mark.
This was a very middle of the road read, the pumpkin spice vibes were there but the narrative just fell flat for me. Just couldn't get into it at all.
Was not able to download book..... so I was not able to review on here but I did buy this book to read
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not normally a huge fan of YA novels, but this one was amazing. It was the perfect Fall book to kick off the season!
3 out of 5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Scholastic Press for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm just going to get straight to it. I believe I am no longer the demographic for this book. I think this book would be really good for a teenager. This book also definitely put me in the Fall mood. I'm ready for sweaters in still very hot climate. I thought the concept of this book was super cute however, I felt that the execution fell a little flat for me. I didn't understand why the FMC did many of the things that she did. I did enjoy watching all of the baking unfold. I also really loved the town. It definitely reminded me of Stars Hollow. I did feel like Claire made some odd choices that I feel like most teenagers wouldn't make throughout the story so I had to suspend my disbelief a bit there. I also don't think there was very much romance in this book until maybe the very end? This felt more like a YA contemporary. In any case, this would be good for teens from 13-15.
I really wanted to like this book. I was drawn in by the adorable cover and the premise. Cozy fall read with Gilmore girls vibes- say no more I’m in. However I was a little let down by the characters. I felt like they weren’t very dimensional.
Everything you would want in a cozy fall book! The descriptions of the scenery, pastries, and coffee made it feel like I was right there in Briar Glen. Lucy's mom owns a coffee shop that ends up needing some saving due to a franchise coffee shop moving in across the street. With the help of her friends and the new boy in school, Lucy is able to create the perfect PSL to save her mom's shop! Did I mention that this cute new boy is the son of the rival franchise coffee shop? Thank you NetGalley for the copy in exchange for my honest review.
A cozy, laugh-out-loud romcom that’s as sweet and comforting as your favorite fall drink! I love love loved it
This was a really fun read! The cover is absolutely amazing, and I loved the small town setting!
It was a good read, but not a great read. I found myself wishing for a little bit more.
Still, I think it is a good read this fall season!
This was a super cute Romeo & Juliette style seasonal YA romance. I enjoyed it but it didn't blow me away. The small town was written well but I would have liked to see more character development.
So this a YA book and while I knew that going in, I did not anticipate struggling to connect to the story as much as I did. The story theme is giving a business rivalry/modern day Romeo and Juliet.
I struggled to get into this book. I love seasonally themed books, but this was difficult for me to get through it.
The basis of the story is a struggling small town coffee shop who usually sees and increase in business during the fall is not lacking that business influx due to a chain company making their way into town. While this is happening, Lucy's (who's mom owns the small town coffee shop) crush is no other than Jack (the son of the chain coffee shop).
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC of this book.

I was immediately drawn to this 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 cover and the cozy fall vibes of 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗸𝗶𝗻, 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 & 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗲. Unfortunately, I don’t think I was the target audience for this book.
It is labeled YA, but felt like it was targeted towards an even younger audience. I couldn’t connect to the main character at all and found her to be very whiny and immature. I also wanted so much more from the romance aspect of the story.
This definitely has a great fall atmosphere, and I loved the rival coffee shop element, but overall I was left wanting more.

This book is so perfect for Autumn! It is a small town YA Romance. Family owned coffee shop threatend by a chain coffee shop being put across the street! Lucy’s Mom has her own coffee shop and Jack’s parents own a franchise coffee shop. Their teenage banter is so cute. She is feisty and he is so sweet! I will now be trying all the little coffee shops In my area! This book gives Gilmore Girl vibes! Imagine if a Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts opened across the street from Luke’s diner!!! What a cute cozy fall book!
I was obsessed with this cover and it sounded right up my alley. I'm a huge fan of fall related romance book so I was really expecting to love this. Unfortunately, after the first quarter I became bored. There wasn't much character development so it was hard for me to connect with the story. The whole book overall felt too young for me.. the writing wasn't bad, I just had a hard time getting into it. I think younger people might enjoy this one more.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own..
I really wanted to love this, but it just wasn’t for me. It was a quick & cozy fall read. I love anything fall as I live in New England so I was disappointed that I didn’t love this book.
If you pick it up, I hope you enjoy it!
This was such a cute fall ya romance read. Gave me Gilmore girls vibes. I did enjoy it quite a bit and felt like it was super cute perfect book to get into the autumn reading zone.
This book is the perfect book for the fall season. I really enjoyed the FMC and can relate to her in the sense that also don’t enjoy PSL. I can’t wait to go back and reread this book later on when it’s fall and the trees are changing colors.
This book gave fall Gilmore Girls vibes! It was about a mother and daughter living in a small town, owning and running their own coffee shop ever since the daughter was little. They love to bake, and they bake all their own desserts themselves for the coffee shop. The setting of this book was obviously fall, and of course, there was a fall festival during the storyline. 🍂 A chain coffee shop moves in across the street, and this new business threatens the mother/daughter coffee shop. So the daughter takes it upon herself to create the perfect pumpkin spice latte, to help business. And she ends up getting help, from none other than the chain coffee shop owner's cute son, to create this perfect pumpkin spice latte. This was such a cute and fun story, a perfect read if you love fall, coffee, Gilmore Girls, baking, pumpkin spice lattes, or all the above! ☕️🧡📚
Thank you to the author and to the publisher for this ARC of Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice, exchange for an honest review.
First I’d like to thank NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an eARC of this book.
I was drawn in by the premise, cute title and cover and was so excited to dig in. Sadly after finishing I’m feeling a bit disappointed. I know this is a YA novel but it felt more like an older children’s book to me. There was one scene in particular that really bothered me. Our main character looses a desert contest and is talking with her rival/crush. The whole conversation the two of them have makes absolutely no sense and is all over the place. I feel like the big vibe was “coming of age” but all the main character realizes is that she’s a workaholic and is a teenager in a small town? Also the ending was very abrupt. Overall glad I was given the ARC but deff won’t read again.
