“We Are Experiencing a Slight Delay, (tips, tales, travels)” is my first experience with Gary Janetti but it will not be my last. A short collection of travel tales, advice, and some recommendations, this is a breezy read that will definitely make you smile.

What were some of my favorites? Watching Mr. Janetti turn from trepidation to elation on a spa retreat in Italy was quite funny. The unfairness of the class system and his later enjoyment of the class system on the QE2. The joys of eating alone at a restaurant, something I have learned over time as a business traveler. Seeing Starlight Express in London, a horrendous mistake of youth. Living in a hotel, not as glamourous as it seems. A family vacation on the Queen Mary 2. How to pack, never checking a bag. A scary bridge climb in Australia. And, of course, meeting the love of your life in Greece, and returning there many years later.

A short read, full of stories and complaints of the somewhat rich and famous, with a good dose of humor and self-awareness. Makes one want to pack a suitcase and leave today!

I requested and received a free advanced electronic copy from Harper via NetGalley. Thank you!

This is a very fun and humorous essay collection. I enjoy Gary Janetti's often dry and self-deprecating humor, as well as his affection for his husband and his favorite places. This is a great one to accompany any summer travels, or even for armchair travels.

Some of this felt like padding (particularly the travelogue in Australia), but it was still very funny, very entertaining, and a complete breeze to read. Gary's voice is so specific in its sarcastic disdain, and the comedy shines through on every page because of it.

I've loved Gary Janetti since his days writing for Will & Grace, so this was like sitting down with an old friend and sharing travel stories. Told with his trademark wit and grace, Gary shares his travel experiences and recommendations. I don't get to travel, librarian budget, so this was a definite treat and the stories of him and Brad were lovely.
