My review:
Since I'd read and loved the other two books in the series, I didn't hesitate when the ARCs became available for this one. I was absolutely ready to go back to Sarah's magical realism in a heartbeat. I knew without a doubt it was going to be another success.
And yet.
Look, Fated is definitely a beautiful book with a beautiful love story and a HEA. And out of the three, this is the one that feels more magical-realism like, without a doubt.
However, even if I found it tender and sweet I'm sad to admit it was also tedious at times.
My main concern is how messy and flimsy the whole premise feels.
I liked the characters and how Fiona's personality was a direct consequence of an absent mother and lots of abandonment issues. I loved how rational she was and how honest her friendship with Max felt.
Nevertheless, I frankly couldn't understand what was happening for about 30% of the book. I couldn't relate to the choices. And I couldn't imagine someone as logic-driven as Fiona Abry NOT googling the name of the guy the minute she wakes up from the dream where he tells his story.
It would've made much more sense. It would've also meant not having a book to read. Or a much shorter one.
So, even when things started to sort-of fall into place, I was already quite out of it and not really invested the way I would've loved.
I'm happy that they found their way back to each other and how it all got tied up, though. So there's that.
Also, I'm quite curious about Max's future, so I'll be picking up the next book as well as soon as it's available.
I still recommend the series and will keep praising Sarah's writing to anyone who cares to listen. She's a delight to read.
Okay, WOW! Fated is the 3rd in a series (Ghosted) by Sarah Ready that tangles up the wonder of magical realism with the joy of a romcom. I have found it to be my absolute favorite combination of story telling, however this book felt very different from the first two books in the series.
This is review is being written specifically to encourage those who have started Fated and are wondering how this book could even fit in the same category as Ghosted and Switched. It takes place in a time before Ghosted and doesn’t have an inkling of the same energy and humor of the first two. Keep reading! You will not regret it!
Like you, I was thoroughly confused by the serious tone and primly proper characteristics of the FMC Fi. In fact, I wondered a few times if this book was supposed to be set in the regency era. This is just Fi’s personality, but don’t let her careful persona fool you because she is about to become the brave heroine on an enormous adventure of love, loss, time travel, adventure, disaster and discovery!
While I spent the first half of the book trying to grasp how different it was from the others, I spent the second half marveling at how delightfully different it is from ANY other book I have read! This story is epic and sweeping! By the 80% mark, I was unable to put it down until the final words.
Fated is phenomenal and I believe the most beautiful of any of Sarah Ready’s books so far.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange of an honest review.
This is the first romance novel I've read with magical realism. I quite enjoyed that aspect of the story, but the way things tied at the end didn't quite work for me. Overall an interesting story, definitely different from the copy/paste contemporary romance novels.
I received a complimentary copy of this book "Fated" and all opinions expressed are my own. I listened to the audiobook. I almost gave up on this book because I didn't care for the beginning. Since it was a audiobook I just listened while I was doing other things. The book did get better. I like magical realism stories. I think the book could have been shorter and overall it was ok.

"She meets the man of her dreams in her dreams." This quote | statement alone drew me to this book beside the cover art.
I don't even know to express how much I enjoyed this book! It will definitely hit you in the feelings.
The audiobook is done very well. The narrator did a good job bringing the characters to life.
This is my first book by this author and will not be my last.

Thank you, Netgalley, and Swift & Lewis Publishing for the (eArc &| ALC)-eBook and audiobook for my honest review.
I am always so excited to see another Sarah Ready book about to be published. I dove in and couldn’t stop reading. I love her paranormal/magical realism style and when her books come up, it goes straight to the front of my TBR. But as with all magical realism/paranormal concepts, there were times that the premise was harder to accept (like Fi being in someone else’s body—where did they go? How could she be in a relationship with someone who sees her as someone else? Why didn’t he think she had multiple personality disorder? Why was she always thinking it wasn’t real and equating it to her real life events?) BUT when you can accept it at face value and not let personal hang ups slow you down, it’s such a good and sweet and sexy story. Sarah Ready is such a thoughtful author, there’s no rock unturned or ends left untied. I loved the characters and the settings, I nearly stopped breathing at the twist, and I adored the ending. I can’t wait to read Wished next!!
Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for an advanced e-copy of Fated, in exchange for an honest review.
In Sarah Ready's novel 'Fated,' you will be transported into the surreal realm of magical realism, where the boundaries between dreams and reality blur. The FMC, Fiona, a watchmaker from Geneva, embarks on an amazing journey that will challenge her perception of time and destiny.
After a traumatic incident, Fiona inherits her uncle's mysterious watch that unlocks the door to vivid dreams of a breathtaking island paradise. In these dreams, she encounters Aaron, a handsome and enigmatic man who believes her to be his long-lost wife. As Fiona navigates her waking life, she finds herself torn between her longing for the dream world and her real-life best friend, who harbors unrequited feelings for her.
The story takes an unexpected turn with the introduction of time travel. In a desperate attempt to save the island of her dreams from impending doom, Fiona must confront her past and uncover the secrets that have been hidden from her. As she races against time, she realizes that the choices she makes not only affect her own destiny but the fate of those around her.
Ready's writing style is both lyrical and evocative, transporting readers into the vibrant tapestry of Fiona's dreams and the complexities of her waking life. The characters are well-developed and relatable, making their emotional struggles and triumphs resonate deeply.
For lovers of magical realism, 'Fated' is a must-read. It is a story that explores the power of dreams, the enduring nature of unrequited love, and the transformative potential of time. Whether you choose to read the physical book or listen to the well-narrated audiobook, this intriguing tale is sure to captivate and transport you to a world where the boundaries between the possible and the impossible dissolve.
This was a solid 4.3 Stars read!
I went into this book expecting a typical rom-com, but it was so much more!
Our main character is a real go-getter, who is busy with a capital B! She has no time for extras in her life. That is, until she starts having very vivid dreams about an alternate/future life: she is married, has two beautiful children, and lives a relaxed life on an island. Is it real though, or just a dream? A premonition, an alternate reality?
This book really tugged at my heart strings, and I was so happy to learn that it is book 3 in a series, and book 4 is already on its way!
Fated is book three is Sarah Ready's Ghosted series. Just like Ghosted and Switch, Ready's third installment is a fun, enjoyable read. If you are looking for a light, funny romance with a healthy dose of magical realism, Sarah Ready continues to be the author to gravitate to.
Although I was skeptical when I picked up the first of these books, the author changed my mind on magical realism in my romance novels.
Thank You, Swift & Lewis Publishing LLC and NetGalley for a copy of Fated in exchange for my honest review.
Wow! I normally stick to non fantasy romance novels. But this was a great introduction to the genre. I was very hooked by the typical romance aspects of this novel!
HOW?? THIS STORY IS SOO *GOOD*.
It started off slow, sorf of: “eh, okay?” But past the 60% mark, I didn’t want to stop reading!!! And then everything that I had read in the first half started clicking into place.
I actually sort of figured all the twists out before hand, even the ones with no clues at all about them, idk, i had a hunch sort of, but still that could not spoil the fun of it for me.
The story as a whole is really really cute, I very much liked Aaron and Max’s character. Fiona really, i was just waiting for her to figure it out because I had understood most of it, nonetheless her character is really charming!
And, NO I WANT THAT DAMN WATCH TOO!!!
Absolutely Recommend!!
I’ve read the first two books in this series, so I was excited to see that another was coming out. I liked Fiona in Daniel’s book, but this one was confusing to me for the longest time. In the end, I understood what was happening but it took too long for me. I was so disappointed for poor Max, but I see he’s getting a book next so that’s a plus.
Thanks as always to NetGalley for the ARC.

This is the second book that I’ve read by this author. And wow am I glad that I have read this one because it was so so good!!
Since having read a book by this author I didn’t bed right into this one encouraged that it might be good but might was a light word, this book was a delight to read and had me hooked from page one.
Fiona/Becca were quite an odd interesting character and I definitely fell in love with Max/Aaron and then at times I felt oh so bad for max considering that Fi(Fiona) was in love with a man from her dreams. Or was he from her dreams.
A interesting story line and I could see it being made into a movie. Also need a Fated two as a follow up.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this one early in the exchange For a honest review. Five star read,’loved it!!!
The book's description made it sound like a dreamy read, but I found the dream sequences rough. I couldn't understand why the main character would want to go back. The descriptions in the book were over the top, but that's just a matter of personal preference. The ending was satisfying, but the journey to get there was not worth it for me.
However, if you enjoy romance, magic realism, and detailed discussions about watch design and its technical aspects, this book is definitely for you.
I absolutely LOVED this book. It's incredibly captivating. I was more and more enthralled the more I read. This was so beautifully written, so magical, and such a great read!
I didn't know how this was gonna end until the last minute, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this as well as listening to the audiobook.
I see myself reading this again, that's how much I loved it.
You really feel the emotions and predicaments of Fiona as if you're in the same situations. Her emotions and her traumas are incredibly relatable. I love how descriptive the writing was, you are able to truly picture the scenes as if you're in them. Such incredible writing!
Beyond grateful to have been given this ARC (advanced reader copy) of this book in both eBook and Audiobook versions to read & listen to for a review. I look forward to reading more by Sarah.
Thank you so much to Net Galley, Sarah Ready, Swift & Lewis Publishing, LLC | Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) and Members' Audiobooks.
I really enjoyed this book! This was such a unique storyline and I felt that it was done so well! The pacing was perfect, and even though Fiona is only seeing Aaron in her dreams, the author made it feel SO real! Overall, I had such a good time with this story.
3.5 stars = I liked it. I have really been enjoying author Ready's Ghosted series with paranormal/magical realism elements. Even though this is book 3, Fated is set before the other two books (Ghosted and Switched). The lead in this book is Fiona (she's the sister to the lead in the 1st book) a eoman who has thrownh herself into her work and left no room in her life for dating and love. And after a scary incident in which she is shot by a mysterious stranger, she comes into possession of a magical watch which allows her to dream of a perfect man. Fiona believes that the watch is teaching her how to open herself up to love again in the dream world, so that she can find love in the real world.
I found this a bit confusing, since she's dreaming and developing a relationship with the man of her dreams, while trying to give the friend who loves her in the real world a chance to be more. I wasn't sure who I was supposed to be hope for as her HEA. Still when she finally figures out what is going on the story had some surprises and a very nice ending. And since there's going to be one more book there's hope for the guy she didn't pick to get his HEA too.

In Sarah Ready’s enchanting romance novel “Fated,” Fiona Abry finds herself caught between the allure of dreams and the reality of her hectic life running her family’s Swiss watch company. The story unfolds when Fiona inherits a family heirloom rumored to allow the dreamer to experience their deepest desires. What ensues is a poignant exploration of love, longing, and the boundaries between fantasy and reality.
Fiona’s character is compellingly portrayed as a driven and practical woman whose life revolves around her responsibilities. Her introduction to the dream world offers an escape to a tropical island paradise, where she lives an idyllic life with a loving husband and two children. This dream life contrasts sharply with her bustling urban existence, presenting Fiona with a dilemma: should she continue to pursue her dreams at the expense of her real-life commitments?
Ready deftly navigates Fiona’s emotional journey as she navigates the complexities of falling for a man who exists only in her dreams. The slow-building romance between Fiona and her dream husband is tenderly crafted, drawing readers into the intensity of their connection despite its ephemeral nature. The author skillfully explores themes of self-discovery, the pursuit of happiness, and the risks inherent in letting oneself fully embrace love.
The novel’s setting on a tropical island adds to its allure, providing a picturesque backdrop against which Fiona’s emotional turmoil unfolds. The descriptions of turquoise seas, palm-lined beaches, and starlit skies enhance the dreamlike quality of Fiona’s experiences, immersing readers in a world where reality blurs with fantasy.
“Fated” is a captivating blend of romance and introspection, exploring how the pursuit of one’s dreams can intersect with the search for true love. Ready’s prose is engaging and heartfelt, capturing Fiona’s internal conflicts with sensitivity and depth. The novel’s conclusion delivers a satisfying resolution that balances the allure of dreams with the realities of life, leaving readers with a sense of hope and fulfillment.
For fans of contemporary romance that delves into the complexities of relationships and the power of dreams, “Fated” is a delightful read that will resonate long after the final page is turned.
I received an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC.
This novel was brilliantly written. I requested this as an ARC from NetGalley since I had previously read and appreciated Sarah Ready's works. This book's premise was fresh and captured my interest. I don't want to say too much in the review because it's so easy to give away information.
I'll mention that the major characters were very well written and developed. I normally enjoy banter, but this book had a different air, and I didn't miss it. The supporting characters contributed to the tale and were well-developed. Certain scenes were described in such depth that I could readily visualise them and feel as if I were present. This novel kept me guessing where we were going for quite some time, which I love. I generally figure it out very early on. This was a little spicy, but not too much. This novel is primarily about the love story, and it was well worth the read for me!
THIS BOOK WILL SUCK YOU IN FROM THE GET GO AND WILL NOT LET YOU LEAVE!
This book was a lot of fun to read. Jumping between Geneva and a tropical island was a lot of fun. My heart ached for Aaron and the life he had been leading on the island. I’m still trying to wrap my head around pieces of it (I think a novella featuring Becca and what happens with her would be good) but I enjoyed it.
