Thank you to NetGalley, Listener Kids, and Tommy Nelson for this e-book in exchange for an honest review.
Just like their other book, He's Got the Whole World in his Hands, this is a problem solving, interactive read for young kids to help teach them about kindness and empathy. They have little prompts on the pages to help get the kids involved in the story. My 3 and 8 year old loved that and got them to follow the story better. It's a quick read but well worth it for your kids.

This series is new to me and we are so happy to have received an ebook ARC for this story: I’ve Got the Joy. The story features two lovable animal characters, Jack and Scarlett. We follow them on their adventure as they go camping. They find so much joy in so many ways, “their heart is bursting with joy” as they float down the river. The book uses fun prompts to get little ones involved in the story along with a scripture and classic children’s song. The illustrations are so precious. They feature the rabbit and squirrel as they enjoy camping in adorable and colorful pictures. I highly recommend this book to all families with little ones.
Let’s Learn About Joy!
As Jack and Scarlett go on a camping trip, they encounter some fun along the way. The reader and child can help them by following prompts within the story. These prompts include finding objects, helping them in their journey, saying “Ready, set, go!”, repeating a Bible verse, praying and singing together.
The illustrations are bright and colorful enough to keep the child engaged. Any toddler or preschooler would enjoy the story and activities within this sixteen page book of joy!
I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.
Cute story about joy and God. The interactive parts are great for young children and there's a song they can sing at the end. Overall, it didn't have much of a plot.
One of my favorite things about this book is how interactive it is with little ones. It’s right there in the page for the reader and helps get the kids into the story. Thank you NetGalley and Tommy Nelson! The illustrations are also really coloring and fun too.
What sets this book apart from many others is its interactive text! Readers are asked to participate by finding and counting sticks, saying “Ready, Set, Go!”, tapping a blue floaty three times and other fun activities as they experience more than just a story.
Jack (a squirrel) and Scarlett (a rabbit) go camping. The text is conversational and the story is simple for little ones to easily understand. The characters discuss how they feel extra happy at times like their heart is dancing. Scarlett shares that when we follow God, He fills our heart with joy. It also includes Galatians 5:22-23 with the fruit of the Spirit and the characters model praying before they eat.
Overall, this is a delightful little book which toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy time and again. More than that though, it will share truth from God’s Word and His love for them. It makes for a great discussion starter on joy and being thankful to God while also teaching the song – “I’ve Got the Joy Down in My Heart.”
These adorable characters will easily become favorites and may also be found on the Listener Kids Youtube channel where they share Bible verses and Bible songs for kids!
Thank you to NetGalley and Tommy Nelson Publishing for the advanced copy to review with my honest impressions.
Jack and Scarlett: I’ve Got the Joy is a sweet board book for preschoolers to learn about being joyful in the simple things of life. This book is also interactive and toddlers will love counting along with the characters, following them on their camping trip activities and at the end, singing with them. The illustrations are colorful and cute. This will surely be a book kids want to read and re-read.
Thanks to netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
My family loves the Listener Kids music. My 5-year-old introduced us to it from her school. This book fits right in with their message and catalog. Great for little kids!
Loved this book! I love that it has interactive aspects for the kids! Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced copy, all opinions are my own!
Thank you NetGalley! I loved this book. The interactive parts and scripture were great additions. The illustrations and story were adorable
My husband and I are always looking for Christian books for our kids to read at night with them. As a mom, I am also always looking for new Christina books, especially devotionals to read through to fill my cup.
This Is Not Forever by Sarah Grace Hollis is full of hope when life is not going as planned, or you’re feeling stuck. It was such a reminder to always turn to the Lord when life gets shaky and the foundation doesn’t feel secure. I loved how deep the devotionals were, but how simple they were. I really was able to reflect on them throughout the day, and had the time and attention to soak into the Bible verses, and the encouragement to see me throughout the day. Release date is August 19.
Comfort and Joy by Gwen Lantz and Sarah-Leigh Gerber is a book I cant wait to reread during the holiday season. It was all about how to slow down and enjoy the moment in the season. It was a wonderful advent to walk through the season, and remember the importance of the holiday. Release date is September 2.
Discovering Christmas by Amanda Jass is one I already told my husband we are purchasing for the holiday season. It’s an advent devotional for kids for the Christmas season to focus on the meaning of the season. I loved the illustrations, the sweet words, and simplicity of this book. My kids will absolutely adore this one. It would make a really sweet gift too! Release date is September 9.
The Easter Lamb by John Greco was told so sweet from a child point of view of the story of Easter. The way he intertwines Easter and the Passover, and so simply but deeply explains it all together with such a gentleness for children was wonderful. Release date is December 16.
I’ve Got the Joy and He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands were absolutely adorable. My two little boys loved reading this before bed. We love to listen to the songs of these, and so it was fun to see them flipping the book and saying all the words. The illustrations are beautiful and so colorful for kids. A perfect gift! Release date is August 12.
Waiting Isn’t a Waste by Mark Vrogop is a book I have in my amazon cart. This is a fantastic book on the Sioux characteristics of waiting.
