The Cards That Changed My Life is a really cute story, and I love the cover. It was very charming, well written, and magical. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read it!

A cute and entertaining novel, the heartwarming story of how magical cards changed the life of an overachieving underdog as she's good at what she does but not as famous as her actress sisters.
The cards will help her to start again but there will be also lessons to learn and prices to pay.
Heartwarming and compelling.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

These aren’t your normal tarot, oracle or angel cards. They aren’t playing cards or matching cards but they are magical. 🪄

Jane is an investment banker and sister to actress, Gillian. She works with Ben and Emma and is rekindling a childhood friendship she had with bookstore owner, Tara. 📚

After a rough day at work impacted by both Ben and Emma, Jane visits Tara at the bookstore and discovers the cards. ✨

As Jane struggles to find her place in the world, assisted by the magical cards, she begins to get what she has most wanted in life. Jane soon discovers that our actions impact our lives and once you pull a card there is no reshuffling. 🛑

This is a cute, at times, frustrating book because isn’t that real life. The characters get under your skin with how they treat one another and reminds you to be kind to yourself and one another in life. What would you do if you could magic card your life? Hopefully you would make the appropriate decisions and not fall prey to the powers of abuse.

Thank you to the author, Joanne Ryan Curran, NetGalley and the publisher, Cross-eyed Cat Productions.

This book explores the notion of new beginnings and starts. How someone can change their life for the better but still feel lonely in this world. This book explores relationships, family, and friendships. It’s about charming romance, forgiveness, heartache, and sizzling chemistry. If you love romance that is intense but beautiful at the same time; this one is for you.

The Cards That Changed My Life by Joanne Ryan Curran. Cross-eyed Cat Productions, 2024.

This story is about Jane, only 23 and though already a successful investment banker, has never quite been good enough for her mother, and feels inferior to her famous older sister. Jane has work friends Ben and Emma; Ben does not know that Jane is in love with him, and recently promoted Emma is now Jane’s boss. Disappointed when Emma promotes Ben instead, Jane finds herself outside a bookstore she remembers visiting frequently with her father as a child. We meet Tara, the elderly, elegant shop owner.

As Tara and Jane renew their friendship, Jane becomes the new owner of a magical deck of cards. The cards do grant wishes, but with terms and conditions. Jane masters how they work, and just as quickly her career and love life take off.

This well-written story is an easy and amusing book to read. I had no difficulty at all accepting that the cards were magic. Jane is an engaging main character – it is easy to cheer her on. Jane’s mother is malicious, overbearing and knows she could have been a star. Their stories and those of a fairly large cast of other characters overlap and intersect with Jane’s: the jealous friend, the caring nurse friend, the big man at work, the crypto trader with a shady past, and the former child actor facing burnout. It is obvious that we are not expected to admire most of them.

I would give this book 3 ¾ stars if I could. I did enjoy reading it, but handsome Ben is just too dim witted. And the actions and behaviors of Jane’s other male love interest and of her big boss left me feeling vaguely uneasy.
