In the second book in the series, vegan Clementine gets engaged to carnivore Zach. Even though their cooking and eating styles differ greatly, they are madly in love. Zach pops the question and of course Clementine says yes. Problems start when Zach's mom-zilla decides to be the wedding planner. Lots of fun characters and events that add up to a good story.
Due to downloading difficulties, I was not able to read this book.
SKINNY BITCH GETS HITCHED - Kim Bardouin
#2 in the Skinny Bitch series
FUN AND FUNNY - 4 stars
Plot - 4 stars - Clementine is a chef who has recently opened her own vegan restaurant. She's passionate about her place and is working hard to build a following, with a goal of getting reviewed in a big Sunday supplement. She's living with Zack, the billionaire owner of a steak restaurant--opposites attract. But when Zack asks her to marry him, his mother gets involved in the planning, his sister gets involved in the restaurant, and Clem has to decide if compromise is the way to go.
Writing - 4.5 stars - I got caught up in the story right from the first page. Clem is busy and interesting, and the writing reflected her scattered thoughts and hectic lifestyle. But she's solid and tries to do the right thing, and I liked her right away. Zack is more shadowy--Clem is wondering about his commitment and has more than enough to deal with in her encounters with Dominique and Keira. Secondary characters of roommate Sara and her boyfriend Joe add a bit of conflict.
Characters - 4.5 stars - This is where the book really shone for me. Clementine is cute and fun and crazy busy, but in control, well, kinda. She is passionate about her work and totally loves her restaurant. She takes on a lot of responsibility, often overcommitting herself. She loves her friends and family and is totally honest, especially trying to be honest with herself. Zack, although less definitive, seems to be warm and friendly and crazy about Clem. But with the wedding approaching and all the outside influences on them both, things get sticky between them. But I loved that they tried to work things out, talking and discussing and learning more about each other. Secondary character of Aunt Joclyn was a great steadying influence, providing some much-needed advice on marriage. And the crazy antics of Dominique (mother-in-lawzilla) and Keira (Zack's sister) added some humor.
Title - 3 stars - I'm not sure where the Skinny Bitch designation comes from since I didn't read Book #1 in the series. But Clem is definitely a very active and successful woman who is trying to juggle her new restaurant and her wedding plans. Apparently this title is from a cookbook?
Cover - 3.5 stars - Cute and colorful cover showing a decorated wedding cake. This symbolizes her upcoming wedding as well as the wedding cake that she created at the beginning of the book for Zack's sister.
Overview - 4 stars - This was entertaining and a very quick read. Clem is a terrific main character, and we see the whole story through her eyes. She is strongly committed to her restaurant's success and loves Zack and all her friends. She tries to do the right thing, even to her own detriment. Although I felt sorry for her frustrations with the wedding planning, I enjoyed seeing her reactions and cheering along with her for her successes. Very enjoyable and a wonderful surprise since this is a new-to-me author.
