When I picked up "The BPD Guided Journal" by Daniel J. Fox, it was because I wanted to understand more about borderline personality disorder (BPD), especially as it relates to my mother. This guided journal provided a compassionate and structured way to explore the intense emotions and relationship struggles that can come with BPD.
Fox’s approach breaks down BPD into four key areas: emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. This structure helped me get a clearer sense of the kinds of challenges people with BPD face daily, and it offered practical ways to manage those challenges. The journaling exercises encourage self-reflection and emotional control while fostering self-compassion. I can see how this journal would be empowering for someone living with BPD, offering tools to recognize their influence over their life and to build healthier relationships. One note of caution: some prompts might feel emotionally intense, so I’d recommend working through this with a therapist for added support if needed.
Overall, Fox’s journal offers a helpful, compassionate space for people with BPD to gain insights into themselves and their emotions. Whether you're managing the condition or simply trying to understand it better, this book is a thoughtful guide.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
This workbook will be a fabulous addition to my practice (I haven’t used it with a client yet, as this was not the purpose of this ARC). Depending on the client, when writing isn’t aversive and they’re open to it, the inclusion of a workbook that they can utilize outside of sessions is a great therapeutic tool. It’s also especially helpful in guiding some in office sessions, depending on need, questions, explorations, clarifications etc. This workbook provided psychoeducation in a clear and concise manner, and as a whole, the journaling activities were based on evidence based practices, that has practical applications.
Individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) should be aware that this condition does not have to be defining. To take control of their own narrative and embark on a journey towards healing, individuals can engage with this compassionate guided journal. This journal provides a tailored and constructive approach to symptom management. Through the practice of journaling, individuals can explore the four key elements of BPD—emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships—and access valuable tools to regulate emotions, break free from detrimental habits hindering relationships, overcome feelings of shame and regret, and foster self-compassion. Beyond the confines of BPD, this guided journal serves as a resource for individuals to gain fresh and empowering perspectives on themselves and their distinctive cognitive processes. Armed with this newfound understanding, individuals can confidently navigate a world where they feel a sense of belonging, empowered to overcome any obstacles in their path. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is a decent journal guide.
As a person with BPD, I went into this looking at it to see if it would be useful to help with my mental illness and in many ways, it could. There are thought out ways to go through some of the behaviors associated with BPD.
However, I feel like some of this could be extremely emotionally triggering if not being worked through with a professional and in a lot of ways there could have been many more explanations of symptoms.
Thank you netgalley for an advanced ARC of this book
I found out late last year that I have BPD and since I have been looking into it for more understanding as well as more ways to learn to handle triggers etc, so reading this and it being a journal I copied each question out in a hardback note pad and did them all but one each day.
Doing this has given me insight into myself more and also given me something I look back on when I need to see it since I copied into a jars note book, I think this is a great journal to have to help when u are looking at urself & everything to really get a map of where u are and where u wanna go in the future because you can go back relook and create urself knowing ur strengths, weakness, triggers, beliefs, core issues and so so much more 😊.
As someone who was recently diagnosed with BPD, this workbook is a must. I guarantee that if you truly have BPD you will find you inside of this book.
This book is relatable and is also readable which is important for people like myself. You are not alone !
