Having enjoyed The Doctor’s Wife audiobook, I was excited to pick up The Perfect Nurse. I expected a fast paced thriller with some dark humor thrown in and well, this was not that.

To say you’ll need to suspend disbelief doesn’t accurately reflect how out there this plot goes. You will be surprised by the twists because they are pulled out of thin air.

It was a fast read so there is a plus for you.

This was such a good book! Fast paced with twists and turns around every corner. Nothing is as it seems. Cant wait to read the next in this series!

The Perfect Nurse by Daniel Hurst is another quick, propulsive page-turner from one of my favourite and never to be missed authors, though I did find this one a little bizarre. While definitely a solid read, this one requires of the reader a healthy suspension of disbelief.

Darcy is a nurse who, for some reason, needs to rely on her co-worker Pippa to pick her up and get her to work every morning. The two are assigned to provide home care for Scarlett, a woman who is suffering cognitive issues after sustaining a fall in her kitchen. Darcy cannot get a read on Scarlett's husband, but something seems to be off. Is he responsible for his wife's accident? And why is he so reluctant to leave Scarlett alone with her nurses?

This novel bears all of Hurst's trademark twists and compulsive readability, though I had a difficult time accepting where it ultimately led.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

I loved this one! It’s a captivating thriller that kept me scratching my head over and over.

Darcy and Pippa are home care nurses charged with the care of Scarlett who has a traumatic brain injury following a fall. Darcy can’t shake the feeling that there’s more to the story and begins to doubt that Scarlett is truly ill. At the same time, Darcy has herself a stalker and even had her home broken into. Her life is in shambles as she struggles with insomnia and panic attacks, but feels strongly that she must protect her patient from whatever is going on.

This is book one of two and I await with bated breath the next installment of this fantastic story. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy of this 5-star book.

I really hope Daniel hurst takes off like Freida McFadden has as they both write excellent popcorn thrillers that are easy to read and have you turning pages into the night. The twists and turns are wild (and sometimes far fetched) and I find myself wondering how he comes up with the ending. Please put your books and audiobooks on libby so the world can find you!!!

This book is full of so many twists and turns that I can barely say anything outside of the synopsis without spoiling the story! Darcy and Pippin are two nurses who were assigned to some very wealthy people, Adrian and his wife, Scarlett. Scarlett had an accident that left her with brain damage, and her husband has realized he can’t take care of her on his own any more.

Their first day at the house, Darcy feels something is off about this couple. She can’t put her finger on it, but these people make her uncomfortable, and so does the house. When Adrian asks her to stay over nights for extra pay, her alarm bells really start to go off, and that’s when we get to the heart of the story with all the twists.

Reality definitely needs to be suspended with this book; I didn’t see any of the twists coming, because they were so out there that they weren’t even in the realm of possibility for me. Also, this is set in Chicago with American characters, but I could tell the author is British by some of the words and phrases used. Maybe the UK and US versions are the same, but it was odd with characters from Chicago saying certain things. Overall though, this was a fast-paced read that was entertaining and pretty original. It looks like there will be more to Darcy’s story coming in the future, and I will be there for the second book! 3.5 stars.

(Thank you to Bookouture, Daniel Hurst and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on July 1, 2024.)

I am always very pleased when it(s time to read another book by this author. Each and every time he entertains me with a story that I can immerse myself completely in and forget everything that is going on around me. He makes me go crazy, in the best possible way, trying to figure out the outcome to hit me with a twist that totally turns the world upside down. I could never have imagined this and that is what I love about his books.

Some memories fade away until they are gone altogether and that's a pity. Sometimes not remembering is a blessing, because some things are better kept hidden in the dark.

The perfect nurse does not exist, because we all make mistakes, but Darcy was the perfect one for Adrian and Scarlet. They would not have wanted anyone else.

I loved it. 5 stars

Daniel’s books are always so good! This book kept me on my toes the entire time! Darcy is a great nurse, she loves helping people and it’s something she always wanted to do. But did she go too far? Did she help the wrong person do a bad thing? I really had an idea in my head of how the story was going to go but it went a completely different direction. The twists were just so good. This book was really good! Best thriller I’ve read in a while. I didn’t want to put it down. If you haven’t read Daniel’s books yet, you should. I would definitely recommend this book! Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Daniel for the ARC!

I love Daniel’s novels and this one was another fantastic read from the start! He writes such interesting and flawed characters, sometimes I feel sorry for them! Nurses are supposed to care when we are at our most vulnerable, not sure I’d want to be cared for by this one! A great, twisty read!

Wow! I loved this book. The first 30% was good but then it became impossible to put down and had me reading through the night. So many times I thought I knew where the story was heading but there were so many twists that left me shocked. After having read so many psychological thrillers I’m finding it harder to find new and unique twists but Daniel Hurst managed to accomplish that in this amazing book. The only negative I have was that I wanted an epilogue at the end as I felt it ended too soon but after learning this is the first book in The Perfect Nurse series I think it was fitting to leave the story at that point. I’m looking forward to not only reading the next book in the series but also reading more books by Daniel Hurst.

Darcy has always wanted to be a nurse, and loves her profession and helping people. But then she had to do something terrible. She broke all the rules a nurse should follow. She wanted someone gone so badly. And now they’re dead because of her. She’s afraid someone knows her secret. Daniel Hurst is a master at thrillers and he always ends up shocking me at least a couple of times each book!!! Five stars!!!B thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Sorry this just didn't do it for me. The main character was all over the place and i found the story confusing.
Not one of Daniel Hurst's best as far as i am concerned.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.

He does it again here’s me thinking maybe this one won’t be as good and he gives me another cracker of a story that has kept me up for hours to finish it before I go to sleep. The twist in this one I was not anywhere near guessing and I loved it. This is great story writing at its best and I can’t really say much about it without spoiling the story but just pick up a copy and read this. Trust me on this one!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC. I am a little torn on it. It was easy to read and I found the end satisfying. The Perfect Nurse was written in First Person POV PRESENT TENSE. Sometimes I dont't mind that but I do enjoy past tense better, but in this case I was super aware of it. I kept thinking about it. Maybe just me though. All in all though it was an entertaining read and is the first book I've read from this author. I love all stories with nurses in them. ( I secretly wanted to be one but never made it happen.) The idea of an unreliable nurse is frightening . Entertaining twisty read that fits genre well.

So many twists and turns that I never saw coming. Each section was so well done, and kept me glued to find out what the HECK was happening. Hurst does this so well. Lies, secrets, murder, family and friends are all hiding something which makes this a very FUN read!

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of The Perfect Nurse by Daniel Hurst due to be published July 1, 2024.
I have read 35 of Daniel Hurst's books, so I was thrilled to be able to review this one – he is one of my favorite authors!
Darcy and Pippa are nurses who go to work for Adrian and Scarlett – Scarlett is incapacitated and needs help – more help than Adrian can provide. But when Darcy and Pippa start working there, Darcy notices little things that do not seem right. Are they there to help, or should they be in fear for their life?
The Perfect Nurse is a typical Daniel Hurst book – starts out and you wonder where it is going and why everyone seems so “normal”. Oh. My. Gosh. About halfway through the reveals start and they don’t stop. You will never see them coming! I couldn’t get through this one fast enough to see what happened to Darcy, Pippa, Adrian, and Scarlett.
Daniel Hurst came through again – it’s why he is one of my favorite authors!
