A young girl reports to the Irish police that she has foreknowledge of murders. They believe that her knowledge must have come from her parents, so she is placed in a youth detention center while her parents undergo intense scrutiny. Detective Tessa Burns tries to learn the truth, and in so doing, her entire team comes under attack.
Though the book had great potential and an intriguing plot, it is without a doubt, the most unrealistic police story I have ever read. Each parent grabs a gun and shoots someone; one victim is a villain, who dies, and the other is a police officer who is seriously wounded. Yet neither parent faces any consequence for their actions. "'You two have been given huge leeway,' Tessa said. 'You both committed serious crimes, and because of the circumstances of all of this -- which were hugely stressful -- and because we believe you're inherently good people, we've looked the other way.'" I don't even know what to say. Since when do the police give leeway in a fatal shooting because the shooter is a good person? Throughout the book there were other actions of the police officers that didn't make sense, but this example is the worst.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
I love this book. It has to be a favourite of the series as usual it includes characters that we already know. Great writing
For the third time, we travel to Ireland to meet up with DI Tessa Burns and her team.
I guess when you see them, you could say they are an odd bunch, but they are a very close-knit team and they know how to handle themselves.
Tessa has learned how to come up for herself from a very young age and her career in the army has shaped her even more. Danny is built like a brick shithouse and don't underestimate Maggie because she is in a wheelchair. Let's not forget Pavlov, the little terrier, but a force to be reckoned with as well.
They focus on cases where children are involved who have to be protected and when they are sent to Cork, they have a peculiar case they have to deal with. But there is not only that. They seem not to be very welcome there, but that is the least of their worries. They will dig until they have found out every thing there is to found, even if they have to put themselves on the line.
Although I enjoyed the two previous books, this one is my favorite in the series. Ellie stole my heart from the from the start. She surely is one special girl. 5 stars
Thank you
