This story was so well written, I found myself shaking my head in silent awe and appreciation SEVERAL times. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a steamy romcom with so many feelings and so much to root for. The ‘rom’ sizzles, and the ‘com’ is on point––I laughed out loud throughout.

Cursed by a mortal enemy, Griffin de Beauford is sentenced to eternity as a stone statue––but he can feel, see, hear, and even visit people in their dreams. He ends up at a Chicago museum under Emily Porter’s care as she struggles to pick up the pieces after a difficult divorce, not the least of these pieces being her professional career. If she can just do a good job with the symposium and restoration, she might be able to come on full-time and gain a little more financial stability in her life. Just before her witchy friend Rose gifts her a magic stone, Emily begins to hear Griffin’s thoughts, and even dreams of him (I won’t give too much away, there!), and a day later, holding the stone, Emily kisses Griffin’s statue, because what the heck, amirite? Griffin comes to life, eternally devoted to his lady Emily, endearingly unacquainted with the modern world, and with plenty of swoonworthy, knight-like language to color Emily’s world a new shade of romance. But a rowdy man barging out of the conservation lab wearing medieval armor––not to mention a now missing statue––happens to be a humongous problem, and Emily feels all eyes and iphones are on her as she hides Griffin, and his armor, in her small Chicago apartment. Things heat up both in the bedroom and later in the boardroom, as the FBI questions the conservationists. Emily isn’t sure there’s a safe way out of this, but she knows she’s no thief–– unless you count the handsome son of an earl sleeping in her bed as stolen property!

With excellent character development, genuine surprises, plot twists, and laugh-out-loud moments, Bryn Donovan delivers an emotional, uplifting, and inspiring love story, that’s also a love letter to Chicago. I was rooting for Griffin, feeling so bad for him being trapped as a statue, and I was cheering on Emily as her insecurities gave way to her HEA. Even though I don’t read sex scenes (I skim a few parts in order to skip them––personal choice), there is PLENTY to love for “wholesome” readers like myself, and for those who love the steam, I’m sure they’ll relish the long, detailed depictions of Emily’s encounters with Griffin! All in all, I’m overjoyed to give this book five well-earned stars. You will not be disappointed if you pick this one up!

I am always here for a silly goofy time which this was but it was also unfortunately pretty poorly written. The characters felt flat and underdeveloped and the plot felt haphazard and the final third was particularly rushed.

Emily is an art conservator in Chicago and in charge of a new piece that’s just arrived: a statue of a knight, a very realistic and unique statue. She begins to hear him in her head and eventually, in her dreams, which prove to be quite spicy. Turns out our knight Griffin is cursed and has been trapped via magic since medieval times, and a kiss from Emily sets him free.

Really and truly, the premise of this book is nothing short of ridiculous, but I genuinely enjoyed it. It was silly and slightly steamy, and even though the basics of the plot were flimsy, it worked. I definitely think this is the sort of book one reads in a sitting or two, especially if you’re looking for a Hallmark movie with a little spice. I think Griffin’s old-world charm is adorable, Emily has a fun job, and there’s a bit of intrigue when the art world wants to know where the statue went. I think this could be set up for additional novels, which I would undoubtedly read, as the end of the book sets up a potentially different arc for Emily. It's a fun summertime read for sure!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for providing this book, with my honest review below.

Her Knight at the Museum was a fun book and a cute romance with some fantasy involved which made it a bit more unique. Griffin, a knight frozen as a statue over the years, is able to enter people’s dreams and when he enters Emily’s, an art conservator, it triggers her to kiss him which breaks Griffin’s statue curse. I enjoyed Griffin’s introduction to the modern world but felt that there were a lot of holes or too easily explained plot points while we spent a lot of time (rightfully) caught up in others trying to solve the mystery of what happened to Statue Griffin. There was a balance to be found that I believe would have kept my attention without the back and forth of ‘they got caught up in THAT but not THAT’.

If you like the idea of time jumps, curses, and sweet romances then I would absolutely recommend this. I found it sweet but wished that some smoothing of the plot would be done!

I think there was just something with the writing style that I didn't jive with for some reason. It came to me really highly anticipated, but just didn't click for me.

What an absolute delight of a book! I flew through Her Knight at the Museum in a little over 24 hours because I enjoyed it so much.

This book has an inventive concept: Emily, a conservator at the Art Institute of Chicago, is restoring a statue of a medieval knight when she discovers a real man is trapped in the stone. Griffin, the knight, was cursed back in the 1400s and has been a statue ever since. When Emily breaks the curse with a kiss, Griffin comes to life and shenanigans ensue.

Considering the statue has disappeared without a trace, the news explodes nationally. Suspicion for the theft naturally falls on Emily, who knows the real story is unbelievable. I was on the edge of my seat wondering how everything would work out in the end, but it was a fun ride to get there.

Griffin’s interactions with the modern world were hilarious. I actually laughed out loud, which isn’t something I do often while reading. His romance with Emily was tender, fun, and sexy. Their story still managed to feel realistic despite the fact Griffin used to be a man trapped in a 600-year-old statue. There are many ways this concept could’ve gone wrong, but Bryn Donovan is a skilled writer and absolutely pulls it off.

Her Knight at the Museum was the best sort of bonkers. I can’t wait to read what this author writes next.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC, which was provided in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to like this book, but the FMC getting horny over a statue on page one was just the first of many red flags in only the first 10% of the book. The writing is not the level I expect from a traditionally published book, especially not from Berkeley. I’m not a book editor, but I still noticed several changes that would get the same point across while elevating the writing style. Both of these characters felt one dimensional and unrealistic ; I felt no attachment to either of them.

I enjoyed the “Knight Before Christmas” movie on Netflix and was expecting this book to be very similar. I don’t mind campy books that ask you to suspend your disbelief. My issue with this book is the execution. It is poorly written and feels like a waste of time to read
