This was so adorable!! I can’t wait to recreate recipes when the mood gets more spooky!
The illustrations scream love and care and I love how are the recipes scream creativity and just seem so easily doable!
This was cute, but I wish there were pictures instead of just illustrations, but I liked the tips at the end of the book and the discussion of tools at the beginning. 3/5
This is a great compilation of Halloween recipes. The only complaint I had was that I had trouble actually envisioning the final products. While I love the illustrations and think that the artist is very talented I would have preferred photographs for the more complicated recipes.
'Creepy Kitchen' by Kim Kindelsperger is a delightful compilation of Halloween-themed recipes. From spooky beverages to appetizers that will send shivers down your spine to mains that will satisfy even the most discerning palates and desserts that are a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds, this book has it all.
From the moment I delved into its pages, I was enchanted by the abundance of Halloween fun and whimsy infused into each recipe. The selection offers a perfect balance of spine-tingling treats and delectable delights, all radiating serious spooky vibes that delight even the most discerning Halloween aficionados.
What truly sets "Creepy Kitchen" apart is its accompanying vintage-style creepy artwork, seamlessly integrated throughout the book. Each piece of art beautifully complements its adjacent recipe, setting the tone for a truly immersive culinary experience. Despite its ominous title, this cookbook caters to a wide range of tastes, making it a must-have for anyone who loves and adores Halloween or the Autumn/Fall season.
Furthermore, the book's layout is aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly, allowing for easy navigation and seamless execution of the recipes. Whether you're a seasoned chef or a novice in the kitchen, you'll find the instructions clear and concise, making the cooking process a breeze.
I eagerly anticipate sharing these spine-chilling delights with my loved ones, and I am sure this cookbook will become a cherished addition to my kitchen library.
Thank you to NetGalley and Rock Point Publishing for generously sending me an e-book copy of Creepy Kitchen in exchange for an honest review.
First off, let me say that I love, love, love Halloween. So, upon seeing this book, I knew I had to have it! And it didn't disappoint.
This book is filled with so much Halloween fun and whimsy that I was smitten. A good selection of recipes ranging from beverages, to appetizers, to mains, to desserts. Most of the items gave off serious spooky vibes. So much fun!
Also, I loved the accompanying creepy art work—each piece depicting its adjacent recipe. The art set the whole tone of the book.
This is the perfect cookbook for hosting a Halloween party or the perfect gift for a foodie who loves Halloween.
The cookbook includes 60 creepy recipes for starters, drinks, sides, main dishes, and desserts. The cookbook also includes recipes for Christmas and Valentine's Day and ends with a chapter on how-tos. All the recipes are inspired by spooky movies, TV shows, and general motifs. Every recipe includes an introduction, ingredient list, numbered directions, and full-color illustrations. I love it when every recipe includes a picture because you can get an idea of what the recipe looks like and if you want to make it. The recipe illustrations fit the cookbook well. The only suggestion I have is that I wish the recipes included the prep and cook times. That way, I can know if a recipe takes 20 minutes or 1 hour to make without having to read the directions. As far as the recipes themselves, they are not over the top, and instead, they seem fairly straightforward to make. There are several recipes I would like to try, including the Whipped Pumpkin Spice Latte, Murder Is Like Black Bean Tacos, The Upside-Down Pumpkin Pie Cake, and Baba Yaga's Butternut Squash and Sage Brown Butter Pasta. Also, my daughter would love the Whisper & Scream Mac & Cheese, Corn-iverous Ribs, Merv Mummy's Posthumous Pizza, and Banana Split Personality Ice Pops. It is a great cookbook if you are looking for recipes for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, or even year-round when you want to make something a little creepy.
I loved this halloween themed cookbook, I am a halloween year round person and this book is perfect to make fall and halloween themed foods and drinks all year round!!! The graphics for this are great!! Can't wait to share it with all my spooky followers on tik tok!!
I received this arc from netgalley! Thank you for giving me a chance to see this I'm not super excited for it.
What a delightful book for Holiday spirits. It begins with Halloween, but recipes can be found for Christmas as well as Valentine's day. The book is separated into: spirits and small bites, sides, main dishes, sweet treats. The end of the book is comprised of the two holidays and "How-to". The spirit of the book is simple and the illustrations are art drawings which are cute. I don't think actual photos could have the same impact as the drawings. It invites ghosts and goblins of all ages to have fun cooking and baking for their friends and family. Overall its a perfect book for Halloween. I especially liked the spirits and starters, although I am not a drinker, and the sweet ghoulish treats. Can't wait to start making some of them for the upcoming spooky season

3/5 stars
If you're a Hallowe'en person who waits for that time of year all year long, this book is definitely for you. It takes basic recipes and creepifies them. It sounds good and easy enough, but oh man, the illustrations make a lot seem, if not difficult to picture, actually unappetizing. Illustrated cookbooks are becoming more popular, but it would've been so much better if even half of the recipes were photographs and the rest illustrations, or if the illustrations were on the pages with recipes as a border as opposed to trying to show what it is you're making.
The concept should be a home run, but the all illustrative examples of the foods make me question the recipes. Sprinkling in real examples with the illustrations would have been cute. Instead it feels like a collection of common place recipes with illustrations and quirky names. Some of which perhaps toe the copyright of characters?
A themed cookery book that serves up creepy treats for Halloween and beyond.
I usually prefer cookery books to have actual photos but the art style here was perfect. Cute illustrations and a great look overall.
The recipes themselves look straightforward and easy to follow and would be perfect for parties and themed nights.
I absolutely adore the illustrations throughout this cook book. This would be such a popular treat during the Halloween season! It would be such a good gift to give to someone who's into creative cooking. It has a good variety of snacks, drinks and meals that's accessible. As someone who's not a good cook I can see myself making some of the items. I would've loved to see what the food looked like irl. However, I understand that using real photographs would ruin the visual aspects of the book. But maybe it could've been shown towards the end with the index.
Creepy Kitchen has the most endearing spooky illustrations for each recipe. I also loved that many recipes had bonus spooky facts and fun trivia. The recipes themselves were a nice mix of difficulties, and there would be something for every skill level.
Thanks to NetGalley, Kim Kindelsperger, and Quarto Publishing for the chance to review!
I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.
I loved the illustrations in this book which is normally something I hate in cookbooks. I want pictures to know if I made it correctly. But with this cookbook I think some variations are ok. It's not about looking pretty. I could see using many of these recipes on an everyday basis as well as on the holidays they we're created for. There's every food you need to throw a party or just have a creepy night in. I would love to own this book.
I love everything about this! The recipe titles, the illustrations, the recipes themselves! This is exactly what I wanted and more! Thank you netgalley for the e arc!
This is a super cute whimsical cookbook! Each recipe has a full page illustration, and yes, I mean illustration, not photograph. I think this is the first illustrated cookbook I've come across, and while the illustrations were adorable, a part of me really wanted photos for a couple of the recipes. The large majority of the recipes are definitely for Halloween/October/fall, with a few exceptions (e.g., Shark Bite sipper), and then the last two sections are Creepmas (creepy Christmas) and Goth Valentine's Day. Many recipes have a little "Did You Know?" section with fun facts that I really enjoyed! I have bookmarked several recipes that I am excited to return to this fall to make for my family! I'm especially looking forward to trying the Apple Cider-Glazed Chicken, it looks delicious! Highly recommend to any holiday fun food fans!
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Books for the eARC!
An adorable illustrated cookbook perfect for Halloween and for those for whom Halloween is a lifestyle.
Not only does it contain the classic treats like bone shaped breadsticks, olive spiders, and chocolate pretzel spider webs, but also treats inspired by horror authors like Stephen King.
I've added a number of these recipes to my kitchen rotation and can't wait to try others.
What I particularly loved about Creepy Kitchen is that it didn't just stop with Halloween. There are spooky eats for Christmas "Creepmas" and Valentines Day as well!
While the illustrations of each treat are adorable, I would have loved an actual photo of some of them included as well.
