Run was an excellent read. I loved the writing and it was propulsive. Great character study. I would read more from this author.

Thanks NetGalley and Random House/Ballantine for an advance copy of this book.
What an intense ride this was! We follow a family on the run, fleeing those infected by a mysterious illness or phenomenon that has turned neighbors and friends into brutal murderers. Jack and Dee have to come to terms with their rocky marriage as they fight to keep their two children safe. They also have to try to survive the harsh wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. The speed of the book is break neck right up to the end. I am so looking forward to reading more Blake Crouch!

Wow did this book stress me out!! Which is always a little fun. It was easy to connect with the characters because you are "watching" them go through so much. The writing at times did feel a little choppy but I felt emotionally tied to the story and people. This author is really good at making you think and wonder what is going on and what will happen, which I like. But sometimes it can feel confusing or like a lot is going on. This defnitely isn't my usual genre but I love pushing outside my comfort zones and trying something like this. I definitely want to read more of his book.s

Big thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for the ARC Copy of this crazy read!
I honestly was not sure what I was walking into here, but it was SO good. The adrenaline started immediately and almost never let up throughout this entire story.
I loved the way this ended too, as I was worried we would get some terrible ending that would be disappointing after such a great build up but it delivered just as well.
My first Blake Crouch and it will not be my last!

I have loved every Blake Crouch novel I’ve read and so I was disappointed (mostly in myself) that I couldn’t get into this one as much as normal. The main issue for me was that this so slightly more horror than his other books and for as much as I love thrillers, I can’t handle anything dipping into horror. Crossing over into multiple genres (as Crouch does so successfully), be prepared for plenty of twists and turns that leave you guessing until the end.

I rated Run by Blake Crouch 3 stars. I enjoyed it, but I wasn't expecting the gory/horror style story that it was. Keeping in mind, Run was a re-release of one of Black Crouch's earliest published books. I have been used to the authors most recent novels that are less violent and gory. I probably would not have requested Run had I known. So my middling review is mainly due to me not being the right audience for the novel. I will say, I did enjoy the story minus the gore and violence, but it was a DARK book. Anyone reading it should know that going in. It is a dark plot with a dark view of humanity.

Run was a crazy, wild, rollercoaster of a book. By half way through I did not want to put the book down. It was more gory then I usually go for but it was such a compelling read I had to know what happened.

Outstanding thriller! I was on the edge of my set for most of this book.
When the world seems to lose its mind all at one time, the few people who have been impacted have to either fight back or hide. Otherwise, they will be killed without any mercy. And no one really knows why.
So, when Jack hears his name read across a broadcast radio, he knows what it means. They are coming for him and his wife and kids. They have no choice but to RUN and run now.
The rest of the book is about trying to survive and hoping to figure out what caused the change in only part of the population.
As always, this is another great book by Blake Crouch.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

Scarier than I expected, this book had me on the edge of my seat. One of the most stressful books I've read, I know this one will haunt me for a while. Horror fans will enjoy this one!

3.5 - the story was interesting, and I liked the family bonding, but there were so many too convenient circumstances and the end was a cop out.

This book was a wild ride from beginning to end - abrupt end. I wanted more explanations and the ending to give me all the answers but the curtain dropped and left me wanting more. I cried and gasped at this book I realized was originally released years and years ago.
Run is a story about a journey the Colclough family endures through a dystopian timeframe. One morning society wakes up to murder and mayhem for reasons unknown in the beginning. Jack, Dee, Nay and Cole will be pushed to their human limits and then some. Jack quickly becomes a different man through the journey and I deeply admire him for what he is willing to do. We will witness him make some of the most hardest decisions any human dares to be faced with, be the backbone for his struggling family, and be broken down to his core. The thoughts and the choices made by all the characters are unbelievable. If you devour dystopian and post-apocalyptic novels like I do, I can't imagine you not praising this book for the effectiveness and delivery.
This story is not for the faint of heart or for those who can't handle a barrage of insults to the human condition or body. Crouch reaches in your mind and your heart creating adrenaline, copious amounts of fear, hope and deep sorrow through this novel. I imagined their hunger and thirst so strongly, their pain and their extreme tiredness. Thank you @netgalley, the author, and the publisher for this ARC.

This is more like 1.5 stars but if I can't do half stars, I'll have to round down to 1.
I'm not sure why I was able to request this on NetGalley when it was actually published in 2011, but here we are. Blake Crouch is one of few sci-fi authors I read, and I'll admit that his books are still pretty hit and miss. The newer ones are at least entertaining, but I noticed when I read Pines that he was falling into a lot of classic pitfalls indicative of a new writer. Unfortunately Run experienced a lot of those same issues. The title is quite apt because that is literally all that happens in this book. It was non-stop action with no real consequences. I don't feel that we ever got a satisfying resolution, and character development was non-existent, especially for women. I couldn't tell you a single thing about Dee except that she cheated on her husband. Jack is a very boring action figure of a man. The more I think about this book, the more I realize that there wasn't a single thing I liked about it. Even the action scenes were boring, and I remember wanting to DNF halfway through but I persevered for the sake of my NetGalley percentage. Sigh. Just disappointing. I hope Crouch's true next novel is in line with how his writing has progressed, because looking back is not the answer.

Don’t read this if you have any plans whatsoever. I inhaled this book on the literal edge of my seat. It’s definitely gory and brutal but it’s done so phenomenally well. With every book of this author’s that I read, I just am more and more shocked at how much I like his writing. If you like gory horror apocalyptic type books, this is THE one. There are too many trigger warnings to post, so check them before you read!

I'm torn on this review. On the one hand, I could not put this book down once I started it. It is a thrilling ride from the first page. On the other, it is a surface level thriller, very plot driven, not so much character development or deep explorations of the themes. Definitely an engaging book though, it felt like a movie in my head.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for providing an eARC of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for this E-ARC.
Wow wow wow wow wow. I don’t even know where to start with this review. This is a wild ride. I LOVE IT!!! I held my breath the entire time. I was not sure where anything was going. Was I EXTREMELY upset at Blake at about 90% done? Yes!!!! Like unbelievably mad. It’s okay though. I’m better now.
This is labeled as a thriller but I don’t even know if I know what a thriller is anymore. This book is insane. There is not one single second where I was okay. I listened to it as an audiobook and had a little over 3 hours left to listen to today. I decided to take my dog for a walk to try to get through the whole thing. We walked for about 1 1/2 hours. Which left me with 1 1/2 left. Did I sit for 90 minutes on my couch while just staring into space so I could finish this book? Yes!!!!! Was it worth EVERY SINGLE SECOND???? ALSO YES!!!!
I saw some reviews saying they didn’t enjoy this book. But that’s the beauty of reading. Not everybody feels the same way. I LOVED THIS BOOK. Like love love. Not just regular love. Like first crush, high school, saw the cutest boy for the first time. I HIGHLY recommend reading this. It is in my top 10 all time favorite books.
A beautiful viewing of the aurora borealis is going to be visible in most of North America. Some people stay up to see it. The next few days are chaos. As a strange, unexplained rage passes over people. Some people have an unexplained rage and must kill. Nothing is safe! Nobody is safe. Nobody knows what’s turning people into killing machines. Jack is home with his family when he hears his name over the radio. Someone is giving his name and address. Telling people to go find and kill him. They have no time to pack anything.
What follows is the most intense run for safety. Jack needs to keep his wife and kids safe. But how? When you can’t trust anyone. Where would you go?
Read this book if you want to hold your breath for an extended amount of time. Just do it. It’s worth it.

Run had my full attention from the very beginning. While it took a while to understand the “why” as to what was happening to the main characters (and frankly the universe of the story), I was so enthralled, and rooting for everyone while I waited to find out. This was a speedy read (as with everything I’ve read of Crouch’s, and un-putdownable. 10/10

Run is Blake Crouch’s debut novel, originally self-published in 2011. After the author’s tremendous success, the book has been recently republished by Random House (not too shabby). Blake Crouch is one of my favorite sci-fi authors. Even though Run has some possible sci-fi elements, this book definitely aligns more with the horror/thriller genre.
The premise: An aurora borealis sweeps over most of the United States. Those who witnessed the lights now are murdering those who didn’t. Jack, his wife, Dee and their two children are now running for their lives in a very bleak, post-apocalyptic landscape.
Run is a fast-paced book that kept my interest. I wouldn’t say it’s the author’s best written novel, but the book was definitely entertaining (once you are able to get past all the violence). I appreciated the ending of the book, which tied in very nicely to the book’s first chapter. However, I personally would have preferred a bit more sci-fi and a lot less horror. 3.5 stars.

Blake Crouch never fails to deliver a pulse-pounding thriller and Run is no exception. I loved the dystopian angle and it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. Did I have to suspend some disbelief? Sure, but it's totally worth it in the end.
Thanks to Ballantine for the copy to review.

This book stressed me the heck out. It started off with a bang but left me with whiplash. The pacing felt like a rollercoaster ride and I found my self struggling to finish. Overall I didn’t feel good reading this. I loved Dark Matter so I was really excited for this one. Not my cup of tea

This was a really interesting and fast paced read. I don’t feel like it had a whole lot of depth, but the action was entertaining and kept me flipping pages late into the night. Thank you netgalley for me free review copy.
