The Hospital was a great read by Leslie Wolfe. When Emma wakes up, she knows three things: her name, someone tried killing her, and she can’t remember who it was. She eventually remembers that she is married. But then he visits her with his new girlfriend and tells her that they got divorces three years ago. She must uncover the answers buried in her mind while trying to find out who tried killing her. I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read more by the author.
Emma wakes up in a hospital with a shattered memory and a sense of imminent danger. Her immediate reality is marked by disorienting confusion: she knows her name and that someone tried to kill her, but the assailant’s identity remains a mystery.
As Emma lies in her hospital bed, she struggles to piece together fragmented memories of her past. One vivid recollection is of a serene moment with her husband on a sunlit beach—yet when he visits her, he introduces a new girlfriend and claims they have been divorced for three years. Emma’s world is turned upside down as she grapples with this startling revelation and the growing suspicion that her recollections of the past may not align with the truth.
Determined to unravel the truth, Emma digs deeper into her memories and the contradictory stories she hears from her caregivers, friends, and family. Her search for clarity becomes a race against time as she uncovers a web of lies and deceit that challenges her perception of reality. Trust becomes a fragile commodity as Emma realizes that her survival depends on distinguishing fact from fiction in a world where every assurance may be a lie.

Final Thoughts
With its captivating storyline and skillful storytelling, it is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers. Leslie Wolfe delivers a suspenseful and riveting tale that will leave readers eagerly turning pages and contemplating the nature of truth and memory long after the final chapter.
Some books are better read as text and some as audio. This audio was oh so engrossing with a superb narrator. Early on I pretty much had figured out who the attempted murderer was but there were still so many twists in the story that I needed to keep reading to see how it all would wrap up.
Here is the terrifying plot in a nutshell…
Emma wakes up in a hospital bed with a throbbing headache, and she only knows three things, her name, that someone tried to kill her, and that she can't trust anyone. She is scared, confused and her memories are all mixed up. Emma wonders why her husband isn't there with her. Her friends try to reassure her that no one would want to harm her, but as her head begins to clear, she’s certain they are wrong. Emma realizes she must do her best to piece together the truth on her own while confined in a hospital bed and vows to uncover the villain behind her attack before her attacker strikes again. She has no idea why someone would want to harm her. She doesn't remember that she's divorced, and the only way for her to get answers is from her visitors, the doctors and the nurses who come to her room.
A psychological thriller extraordinaire!
This was such a brilliantly written book. I loved it from start to finish, and what a whirlwind of a story it was. There were so many times that I thought I’d worked out what was what, only to be flummoxed yet again. I couldn’t decide who were the good characters and who were the bad ones, and although I thought I’d worked it all out about three-quarters of the way through, I couldn’t be sure and there were lots more twists to come.
I listened to this one as an audiobook, and the narrator, Tanya Eby, was really good. I’ve listened to books which she has narrated before and always enjoyed them. She played Emma, the female main character, well, and as with any good narrator, I could well believe that she actually was Emma, lying in that hospital bed.
One of the best thrillers I’ve listened to (or read) for a long time, and although this was my first by Leslie Wolfe, it definitely won’t be my last. There were so many moments when I thought ‘no way’, that can’t be how it happened and I loved that I was kept guessing the whole way through.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to listen to The Hospital by Leslie Wolfe.
I have only read The Surgeon by Leslie Wolfe before this book and I did find this one better. While it was better, it still wasn't great to me. There was so much potential, but it just never got to the point where I just couldn't put it down. I would still say to give this a try if you are a fan of the work of Leslie Wolfe.
Emma is brutally attacked one day. She wakes up in the hospital, blind and in severe pain, where they tell her that she had an accident. She wants to make it clear to the doctors and nurses that she was attacked; however, she can't remember any details about her life. Slowly her memories begin to come back and with them a realization that all is not what it seems, or is she simply losing her mind? The story gets a bit slow at times, especially because the entire story is told from one point of view, but the resolution at the end is worth the read!
I absolutely loved this book! I loved how it was written! Having Emma stuck in her bed blind and unable to move really added to the experience! All the descriptions of what she experienced as she tried to puzzle through who could be her attacker! Lots of twists as we as the reader try to figure it out along with her! So good! I highly recommend this book! The audiobook was so easy to listen to.
I was really excited by the premise of this book and it had a strong start, but it lost me a bit in the middle. Something about it didn’t keep my interest and I found myself a bit bored. This book is about a woman who wakes up in the hospital and her memories of her life don’t seem to match up with what is actually real. It is very twisty and I did enjoy constantly guessing what might have happened to her and who she can trust, but it fell flat a bit for me. Her writing is very fast paced and I will definitely read more from her in the future though!
I enjoyed this one so much. It was such a page turner I flew through it so fast. I was very skeptical at the beginning on where it was going. The storyline kept pointing to various people and various things. But the sprinkle of information given to you you were kind of able to figure out who the culprit was however the ending wrapped up in such a good way that I wasn't expecting. I was super happy about that.
If you love a good psychological thriller or some creepy being trapped vibes this one is a great one to pick up!
This one wasn’t for me. A lot just didn’t make sense, and 90% of the story barely anything happened other than listening in to the main characters racing thoughts.
I like the premise of the story, but it was just executed in a strange, conflicting way.
Another one of Leslie’s books I flew through. The audio was so engrossing. This story really sucked me in. Even though I figured out who the attempted murderer was fairly early in the story, there were still so many twisted parts of the story that I needed to keep reading to see how it all came to a head.
Emma wakes up in a hospital bed knowing someone attempted to kill her, but has no idea who that is. She doesn't remember that she's divorced, or why. The only way for her to get answers is from her visitors and the doctors and nurses who come to her room.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for my ALC of this book.
This was a good thriller to listen to! I found it a bit addictive with all the twists and turns--I just HAD to keep listening!!!
This book was ok. Main character was in hospital due to amnesia and injuries from attack and doesn’t know who to trust
Emma wakes up in a hospital with a throbbing headache, and she only knows three things for certain: her name, that someone tried to kill her, and that she can't trust anyone. As she battles the confusion of her memories slowly returning, Emma is disturbed by the fact that her husband isn't there with her. Her friends reassure her that no one would want to harm her – but her resurfacing memories are telling her a different story. Emma realizes she must do her best to piece together the truth on her own while confined to her hospital bed. She vows to uncover the reality behind her attack before her attacker strikes again.
This book was a 4-star psychological thriller for me!
Wolfe created an atmosphere of constant tension and uncertainty. As Emma is lying helpless in the hospital, she continually receives conflicting information, and there is a sense of paranoia that made me slow to trust anyone—including Emma. However, Emma's resilience and determination made her a character worth rooting for. Suspense is well used in this story, and the deep dive into Emma's psyche kept me interested in how the story would unfold.
While this book is generally fast-paced, there are moments when the story dragged, which affected the overall momentum for me. Additionally, I felt that the secondary characters lacked depth, and I would have appreciated a little more information and backstory on them.
The audiobook version elevates the sense of unease with an excellent performance by the narrator, whose voice perfectly captures Emma's fear and perseverance. I felt that the audio version added even more to the story, drawing me deeper into Emma's plight.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture Audio, and Leslie Wolfe for the ALC copy in exchange for my honest review!
I enjoyed this audiobook it had great potential but for me it was just missing something . I enjoyed the narration.
I received this via NetGalley I’m simply giving this four stars since it was a bit hard getting through the audiobook. The voice was a bit distracting. The storyline was interesting though. I rather enjoyed it. It had me trying to guess who was doing all this to this poor woman! I think I would have enjoyed it more of I read the ebook or hard copy. Overall it was a great read. Would love to dive into more books from this author.
I LOVED The Hospital by Leslie Wolfe! There were so many twists and turns - I coud not put it down! This had so much - mystery, hospital setting, and a mysterious (totally creepy) second POV. The FMC is Emma, who wakes up b.ind in the hospital not knowing why or how she got there. I have a a medical background, but I felt that Wolfe described a lot of difficult concepts for a broad audience. I had an idea of the end as the story went on, but I was never 100% sure. This truly was a pleasure to read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ALC to review honestly. Tanya Eby did a fabulout job narrating this twisty tale.
Good, steady read. Great twist which speeds the story up. A good book to dip in and out of. I enjoyed it on audiobook.
This one was fun. I admit that I enjoy and seek out stories with a memory loss/amnesia trope, as I find the human brain fascinating, and this one did an excellent job of leaning into that aspect of the story. I loved untangling Emma's life with her, and learning how she came to be in the hospital with no idea of what brought her there.
Unfortunately, the narrator wasn't my favorite, and I think that her tone sometimes affected how I felt about the story and its characters. All in all, I enjoyed this book.
The Hospital (Audiobook) by Leslie Wolfe
I loved this Audiobook!
Emma wakes up in a hospital blind and with a serious brain injury. She is told as soon as the swelling on her brain goes down, she should be able to see. Emma knows she was attacked but cannot give a description of her attacker to the police as she cannot remember what the attacker looked like. As the days go by Emma slowly starts to remember who she really is and how she got into the hospital bed.
I was hooked from the very first chapter and could not wait to find out what happens. This book was fast paced and I loved the ending. I loved the twist in the end.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture Audio for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review
