Liam wasn't supposed to be in the tank. But how bad could it really be? Hammerheads don't eat people, it's old, and it's missing most of its teeth. Except... That's not a hammerhead...
I am not the target audience of this book but I can absolutely see this being a fun read for kids. The story keeps its pace fast. There's never a moment when I think it would drag on for kids. The writing is fun and flows well. It's a pretty simple story but one I think kids would enjoy.
I would recommend this to elementary kids who like Stine's other work like Goosebumps and have an interest in spooky stories. Also to kids who like me as a kid liked sharks, it's like a b-movie shark film but as a kids book.

The perfect summer goosebumps book. A must read if you're headed to the beach. This had a few unexpected twists. Kept me intrigued. Tense and fast paced. And even better: A whole lotta shark.

Love, love, love!!! This is a perfect, by the beach summer read for youth! Trapped in a shark tank with a shark you weren’t expecting, all to seemingly help your mom film a documentary😂. Count me out! But the boom had so many good twists, and turns! Definitely kept my interest and will definitely be loved by many kids and youth! Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!!

Shark Night by R.L. Stine is great! It's the perfect read for Shark Week. Also, the perfect read for summer. Fans of Goosebumps will love this book. There are a lot of twists and turns with a classic twist ending. Stine continues to be the master of frights. I highly recommend this book!

SHARK NIGHT – by R.L. Stine

Not gonna lie, if I were Liam and my ‘Mom’ put my twelve-year-old self in that horrific situation, I would have punched her in the mouth and dialed CPS (Child Protective Services) on her *ss faster than flies on sh*t—and I am not a condoner of violence, by any means. Just saying.

Me in a tank with Shark-o(s)?

Hard Pass!

Would recommend this book?

As a lifelong Horror Fan . . .

Hehehehe, Yeah :)

Thank you, NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing, for providing me with an eBook of SHARK NIGHT at the request of an honest review.

Shark Night by R.L. Stine is really great, loads of plot twists and a bit of betrayal on a few pages. One part I really liked was that the mom promised the kid that he could get all the PlayStation games he wanted, you go dude. All of it was shark, shark, shark, and a lot of times, I thought that the kid was actually gonna die, but I was wrong, and he lived. This book was amazing, 10/10, will read again, just that it was short for my reading speed. Keep giving the horror Stine, and keep giving A+’s on all of them!

Thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for an advanced copy of Shark Night!

The main character Liam (who in the book description refer to him as Carlo, so I'm unsure if there was a name change at some point), gets thrown into making a documentary for Shark Night, and his own mother is a creator of the show. He is told he needs to swim in a tank with a shark - and was assured that the shark was harmless. When the wrong shark is put in the tank with Liam, things escalate pretty quickly.

For a children's book, I thoroughly enjoyed this! It was fast-paced and chaotic the entire time. I won't say much because I don't want to give too much of the plot away (it does go in a direction I didn't quite expect), but overall it made more sense than some of R.L. Stine's other books, and it was also less violent/gory than a few of the others I've read. However, it was still pretty scary and stressful at times. It was a very enjoyable, quick read. I truly felt bad for the main character, as he really went through it! The poor guy needed a hug by the end of it all.

I loved this one and highly recommend it!

I haven’t read YA in forever but with a reading slump coming on, and an R. L. Stine book coming across my NetGalley dashboard - it felt meant to be. Growing up, Goosebumps (especially choose-your-own-adventure) were my absolute FAVORITE. I was just thinking the other day that I would love to revisit some of them as an adult. It’s crazy but I can still picture a lot of the specific covers from my favorites and snippets of titles and stories.

Shark Night was a super fun break to my usual reading and even featured SHARKS which I am a huge fan of. When 12-year-old Liam agrees to help his mom with a nature documentary, he is assured he will be in a tank with an elderly, harmless hammerhead shark. Unfortunately for him, that is NOT the shark that ends up in the tank with him.

While this one gets a bit ridiculous, I could absolutely see myself as a kid enjoying this one. This was such a fun break from my usual reading that I may seek out more Stine books or similar to try out!

**Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the eARC of this toothy title!**

I wish I could give this a 3.5! It's a classic RL Stine book. I wanted a little more of the relationship with mom and the kids, but I really loved the twist! Also classic RL Stine.

Just in time for shark week, R.L. Stine delivers Shark Night. Liam’s mother has pitched a new TV show for Shark Night. The show’s plan is to have a young diver swim around in a tank with a hammerhead shark. When the original diver suffers an accident, Liam’s pushy little sister volunteers Liam as a replacement diver. Amazingly, his mother agrees. No sooner do they star film when things go incredibly wrong. The shark that gets dropped into Liam’s tank is not the old harmless hammerhead. And that’s just the start of what turns into an insane adventure not only for Liam but his little sister as well. (Sorry not giving you more details…you wouldn’t believe the craziness that happens if I told you, lol) This is a fun over the top story that will have you shaking you head in disbelief and yet will keep you flipping pages. Like most of Stine’s middle grade books you can easily read this one in a couple of hours, but it’s an enjoyable couple of hours and I enjoyed this one from start to finish. I’d like to thank Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of Shark Night.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Qaqas a child my first stop when entering the library was the R.L Stein shelf. I'm glad kids today will have a chance to do the same. Great story with all sorts of craziness that's sure to keep kids entertained.

Child me loved R. L. Stine (it was the first author I binge read) so I am excited to see him start to write again. While this book was more of an adventure than a horror story I still found it to be a fun ride. While I didn’t find it to be particularly twisty and I saw the ending coming it was still a fun, quick read. Liam’s mother is a filmmaker determined to do a project for Shark Week. She’s ecstatic when she is approved and Liam and his little sister get to watch the filming. But nothing about this adventure goes Liam’s way and after an accident he finds himself in the tank ready to film and swim with sharks. This was a fun middle grade story that I think kids and adults who are kids at heart will truly enjoy.

This was a fun, twisty book. It was fast-paced enough that it kept me invested the whole way through. This was more of an adventure story than most of R.L. Stine's books, but it still had some horror aspects and reminded me of Jaws. I wasn't sure how much plot there could really be given the premise of the book, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much went on. It reminded me a bit of A Series of Unfortunate Events and the Sinister Summer series.

I'm a fan of R.L. Stine's Goosebumps, Fear Street, etc., series and have especially been enjoying his newer book which feel like they've grown up a bit to match the attitudes and experiences of kids today, while remaining entertaining to "kids" of all ages. However, Shark Night didn't live up to the other recent books. I'm not sure if this is intended for a much younger audience, but it felt like it was overly silly and ridiculous. And at twice the length of the old school books, it really didn't measure up, as his writing has always lent itself to a shorter page count and a limit on how much happens in one story. Shark Night just threw the protagonist into over-the-top adventure after adventure, which early on pretty much gave away the big twist towards the end. I have to call this a 2-star "it was OK" book that just wasn't on par with most of his more recent releases.

I was a huge RL STINE fan when I was growing up and read all of his books I could get my hands on, particularly Fear Street. So I was thrilled to see he was releasing a new children's book, Shark Night.

I really enjoyed the first half of the story but thought that the second half got a little silly, far-fetched and predictable, but I think kids would absolutely love it. I adored the main characters, Liam, an anxious 12 year old boy helping his mom film a documentary for Shark Week for the Danger Channel, and his younger sister, Rosa, who was funny and pushed Liam’s buttons every chance she got. As a teacher, I can see my students loving this book. Overall, it was a fun read. It is fast paced and full of action, adventures, suspense, cliffhangers, sibling rivalry, ocean life and a couple of crazy pirates.

We've always been told to 'never judge a book by its cover' but can we take a minute to recognize how amazing this cover is? Isn’t cartoon Liam adorable? And the reflection of the shark in his goggles makes it even more interesting. It definitely made me even more excited to read this book.

The book is tagged as horror but I would say it was more suspenseful than scary.

Ramon de Ocampo did an amazing job narrating the audiobook. His tone and energy were spot on, and he gave each of the characters their own voice bringing the story to life.

Thank you @NetGalley, @blackstonepublishing, and @rl_stine1 for granting me early access to Shark Night in exchange for an honest review.

As with so many RL Stine books I read as a child, I was constantly on the edge of my seat thinking ‘no it can’t happen’’ but it does… every time… If you like to be scared, are into sharks and things people do for TV, and like the feeling of your heart pounding almost constantly, then this book is for you! I can’t read too many of these in a row because they keep me anxious!

"Shark Night" is a whirlwind of a novel. From the opening of the book, you're left wondering exactly where this story is going to go, and I can confidently say that I did not anticipate this to be as chaotic as it was. It was highly entertaining, which I know that many younger audiences will absolutely eat up. It can be a bit confusing at times if you're not paying close attention, since the middle portion of the book is chock-full of action and adventure. Stine is known for crafting imaginative and bone-chilling stories, with the latter not being quite what this novel was, but it was thrilling nonetheless.

When I think of R.L. Stine, I think of the supernatural. Considering our old copies of goosebumps from the 90s still fly off the shelves, I know my students like scary. However, there are groups of students at my school who want scary stories without the supernatural.

I always struggle to help them find this because most scary stories that are elementary appropriate end up using the supernatural to be scary.

The use of a shark and the twist of events that are eventually explained is genius and makes my job easier!

I am excited to add this to my library; I don't think it will stay on the shelves!

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and Net Galley for the eARC! All opinions are my own and are influenced by my work as an elementary school librarian.

This is cute and fun but not Stine’s best work. This and a lot of his recent stuff is more of a kids adventure novel than kids horror, and I wish he would get back to what he does best because he’s so uniquely good at it.

Still, it’s a fun and clever story and while I didn’t love the goofy reality tv part of the plot, it’s a solidly plotted adventure.

The end is really, really predictable (another thing Stine usually does a far better job at), but I loved the kids’ misadventures at the hotel, and my kids still enjoyed the story even if it wasn’t their favorite of his work either.
