Alliance: A High-Stakes Sequel
Dwain Worrell's Alliance is a thrilling continuation of the Androne universe that delivers on the promise of its predecessor. This sci-fi adventure deepens the intrigue and expands the world-building, while keeping readers on the edge of their seats.
Picking up after the events of Androne, Alliance follows Harmony, a survivor of a devastating alien war, as she navigates a complex web of alliances and enemies. Worrell's masterful storytelling shines through as he weaves together a tapestry of suspense, action, and thought-provoking themes. The author's ability to craft compelling characters is evident in Harmony’s growth and the development of her supporting cast.
The novel's greatest strength lies in its exploration of the complexities of human nature in the face of an existential threat. Worrell doesn’t shy away from the moral dilemmas and sacrifices that come with such a high-stakes conflict. The action sequences are pulse-pounding, but the character-driven moments are where the book truly shines.
While Alliance is undoubtedly an enjoyable read for fans of the genre, it's worth noting that a prior acquaintance with Androne is beneficial for fully appreciating the intricacies of the plot. Nevertheless, Worrell's skillful world-building makes it accessible to new readers as well.
Overall, Alliance is a captivating sequel that expands the Androne universe in exciting ways. With its blend of action, character development, and thought-provoking themes, it's a must-read for fans of science fiction and anyone seeking a thrilling adventure.
The past fighting the future. Action in some part others just don’t make much since. Maybe I missed something but what did Aura mean by it’s all wrong. Was the girl she raises not suppose to do what she was told to do? And where did Gemini get the go ahead to try to kill Harmony.
This one archived before I could listen.
That said, looks like it was a Book 2 so probably wouldn't have made much sense anyway.
Apologies to the publisher.
When I first started reading this book, I thought it will be a little tedious to follow the story because I would get lost at times. But as I progressed, I even enjoyed those little moments when I didn't know what was going on because they would make me revise on my mental notes and integrate little details into a whole.
The main narrator has such a soothing voice, and her pace is often very appropriate to the events, though sometimes it felt a little rushed, like in action parts, but nothing serious, since it also made you feel the rush of the moment. I also liked the narrator for Arés, because he would break the story perfectly so you could know he was talking about a whole other perspective, but I didn't like his interpretation of other male characters, they just didn't sound right.
The narrative of the story is great. The author puts a lot of attention to the details and you can see it on such small things, which is something I always appreciate.
And even though sometimes I felt Harmony was more like a teenager than a 30 years old woman, I could see where that attitude was coming from and how her character was developed to grow out of that, which made it all much more amenable and even made me feel attached to her.
Overall, I think this is a great book to sci-fi lovers, because it works a lot on describing the details of this new world, and as far as I know, every technical aspect was correct!
