Elle Kennedy brings the heat in “The Dixon Rule” a headstrong Female and Male main character! Personalities are bound to crash! BUT with forced proximity, undeniable chemistry, and coming together to help the other out lights the fire and spice of this book! Elle Kennedy has a niche and it’s Hockey romance. I was swooning and giggling the whole time! I never want “The Off Campus” series to end! Fans will definitely want more after this! “The Dixon Rule” is a five star book! I cannot wait to read more of Kennedy’s books.
Elle Kennedy's "The Dixon Rule" is a delightful, fast-paced romance that expertly combines humor, passion, and the excitement of unexpected love. Diana Dixon, a driven ballroom dancer juggling multiple jobs and an annoying ex, finds her life further complicated by the arrival of Shane Lindley, a charming hockey player new to her apartment building.
Diana’s strict rules for Shane—no partying and no flirting with her teammates—set the stage for an entertaining clash. However, Shane’s intentions are sincere; tired of fleeting hookups and still smarting from a breakup, he’s looking for something real. When his ex reappears, he convinces Diana to pretend to be his girlfriend, a plan that conveniently helps her with her own ex issues.
Kennedy skillfully navigates the fake relationship trope, blending sharp banter with heartfelt moments. The chemistry between Diana and Shane is electric, and their journey from reluctant partners to genuine lovers is both engaging and steamy.
"The Dixon Rule" is a perfect summer read, filled with humor, sizzling romance, and the heartwarming evolution of two characters finding love when they least expect it. Highly recommended for romance enthusiasts looking for a fun and satisfying story.
My favourite Campus Diaries book so far.
I already adored Gigi, Ryder and their story, but the banter and the “fighting while flirting – flirting while fighting” between Diana and Shane is next level 👌
It’s also really nice to meet some familiar characters again while also meeting new ones. You’ll find both characters you’ll love and characters you’ll hate in this book, but that just adds to the enjoyability of the book.
Even though you can feel where the story is going, there are still some twists and turns I didn’t expect. This made me want to keep reading. This book is almost 500 pages long yet it never gets boring. The author also succeeds very well in drawing you into the story. On top of all that, the characters are also dealing with some heavier themes throughout the book, giving it a more mature and realistic feeling. I would have liked to see a bit more of the sports in this book though.
I can’t wait to see what the next book will bring.
I’ve not only read this book, but I’ve listened to the audiobook as well. I absolutely liked the narrators’ voices, but the sound quality wasn’t that great (there are often unexpected changes in the volume of the audiobook, unrelated to the story).
"The Dixon Rule" by Elle Kennedy is a delightful and sizzling romance that masterfully combines the charm of a ballroom dance competition, the excitement of a fake relationship, and the emotional growth of two seemingly mismatched individuals. Diana Dixon is a character who immediately captivates with her determination and sass. Balancing multiple jobs and dealing with an overly persistent ex-boyfriend, Diana’s summer is already packed, but she still manages to set boundaries with her new neighbor, Shane Lindley.
Shane, a tall and handsome hockey player, initially comes across as a typical player, but his character reveals surprising depth as the story progresses. Tired of casual hookups and still reeling from a recent breakup, Shane’s decision to pretend to be in a relationship with Diana to ward off his ex-girlfriend adds an interesting twist to the narrative. Diana’s need to fend off her own ex makes the fake relationship arrangement mutually beneficial, setting the stage for plenty of humorous and heartfelt moments.
Kennedy excels at building the chemistry between Diana and Shane. Their initial hostility and ground rules create a playful tension that gradually evolves into genuine affection. The progression of their relationship feels natural and engaging, with both characters experiencing significant personal growth. Diana’s reluctance to get involved with Shane slowly melts away as she recognizes his sincerity and kindness, while Shane finds stability and real connection with Diana, contrasting sharply with his previous shallow relationships.
The subplot involving Diana’s ballroom dance competition adds an additional layer of interest and showcases her passion and dedication. It also provides a unique backdrop for the romance, distinguishing the book from other contemporary romances. The dance scenes are vividly described, adding a touch of elegance and excitement to the story.
Kennedy’s writing is sharp, witty, and emotionally resonant. She creates characters that are easy to root for, with flaws and strengths that make them feel real and relatable. The interactions between Diana and Shane are laced with humor and genuine warmth, making their journey from adversaries to lovers incredibly satisfying.
"The Dixon Rule" is more than just a romance; it’s a story about finding unexpected connections, overcoming past hurts, and embracing new possibilities. Fans of contemporary romance will appreciate the well-drawn characters, the engaging plot, and the sizzling chemistry that Kennedy so deftly weaves into this charming and heartwarming story..
This was a great enemies to lovers story. This isn't a trope I can always get into, but I liked both Diana and Shane from the start which had me rooting for them. I love how Shane handled his ex and his dedication to his family. I love that he was a relationship guy. Diana was equally as great. She was a fun character and I love how she busted Shane’s chop’s. The Will thing was hot, that's all I'll say about that. Overall great audiobook and the narrators were awesome!
Everything Elle Kennedy writes is absolutely amazing & listening to this book was no exception! It was perfect, cute, funny & so spicy! I absolutely loved falling back into the hockey world with these characters. This book was everything! I can't wait for more books bringing me back into the world of Elle!
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook. This book is hilarious and so easy to listen to. Enemies to lovers is my favorite trope and this was done really well. The steamy scenes were a bit much for me but that didn’t detract from the book.
I adored this hilarious and steamy summer read/listen. This book had me laughing out loud with its witty dialogue between Diana, a super ambitious college student + Shane, hockey player who definitely lives up to the stereotype in the best way. A fake-dating trope to deal with exes, and things get hot and messy. There's a dance competition involved, how could you not enjoy that? This in no closed door super sweet romance, decently steamy and a bit spicy. If you liked any of the Off-Campus series or The Graham Effect, you'll love this.
Narration is very well done!
I finished this audiobook a week ago and I’m still thinking about it! Elle can just write the perfect romance with dramatics and laughs, and I’m in love with this second generation of Briar U hockey stars! Getting the old squad cameo’s thrown into these books make it even better!

There was definitely some heavy topics and events in this book that threw me off, but even though I wasn’t a major fan of it, it kept me bringing this book! But check the content/ triggers ⚠️
Final Rating: 4.75⭐️, 3.5🌶️
Lastly, are you part of Elle’s email subscription?! The teaser information she gave us for The Charlie Method has me SO FREAKING EXCITED!!
Thank you @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for an ALC of this audiobook in exchange for my honest and free review
Elle Kennedy and Briar U are the hockey gift that keeps on giving
I love love love every series from this author but this one is shaping up to be the best one yet. Wellsy and Graham remain the OG but stiff competition from all the new characters.
Shane and Diana are brought to life perfectly by Corvin (a new to me narrator but wow, 🔥) and Erin who both bring the necessary depth with a lighter dose of humour out of the story.
Another fabulous story and I’m left needing more from this group….
Thank you to Netgalley the Publisher, of Dreamscape Select, and the author Elle Kennedy for providing and allowing me to review this book. Which, I'm giving my honest and sincere review.
As a devoted fan of Elle Kennedy's steamy, slow-burn romances, I eagerly dove into "The Dixon Rule," the second installment in the Campus Diaries series. Set in the familiar world of Off Campus and Briar U, this book did not disappoint. Kennedy has a knack for blending humor, heat, and heartfelt moments, and "The Dixon Rule" is a prime example of her skill.
**Summary of the Book:**
"The Dixon Rule" centers around Diana Dixon, a determined and busy young woman with a summer filled to the brim. Between preparing for a ballroom dance competition, juggling two jobs, and trying to shake off an ex-boyfriend who doesn't get that it's over, Diana has her hands full. Her life takes an unexpected turn when Shane Lindley, a tall, handsome hockey player with a reputation for bedding cheerleaders, moves into her apartment building.
Despite Shane's initial attempt to sleep his way through Diana's cheerleading squad, he's actually weary of meaningless hookups. After a painful breakup with his long-term girlfriend, Shane yearns for a real relationship. When his ex reappears, Shane impulsively tells her he has a new girlfriend – and names Diana as his faux partner.
Initially, Diana is wary and sets strict boundaries: no parties, no hitting on her teammates, and most importantly, no messing with her. However, as they navigate their fake relationship to deal with their respective exes, Diana and Shane can't ignore the sizzling chemistry between them. What starts as a strategic move to fend off their exes gradually turns into something hot, real, and undeniable.
**My Experience:**
Reading "The Dixon Rule" was a delight. Kennedy's writing style is as engaging and witty as ever, and the banter between Diana and Shane kept me grinning from ear to ear. The slow burn of their relationship felt authentic and deeply satisfying. Kennedy masterfully balances humor and steamy romance, making the progression from fake to real relationship believable and incredibly entertaining.
Diana is a strong, relatable heroine with a lot on her plate, and her no-nonsense attitude towards Shane is both refreshing and amusing. Shane, on the other hand, is more than just a pretty face. His desire for a genuine connection and his respect for Diana's boundaries make him a compelling and lovable character.
The ballroom dance subplot added an interesting and fun element to the story, showcasing Diana's dedication and passion. It also provided a unique backdrop for the unfolding romance, making the story stand out in the crowded field of contemporary romances.
Kennedy also does a fantastic job of developing the secondary characters, adding depth to the story and setting up potential future books in the series. The chemistry among the group of friends and teammates felt authentic and added to the overall charm of the book.
**Conclusion:**
"The Dixon Rule" is a must-read for fans of Elle Kennedy and anyone who loves a well-crafted romance with plenty of heat, humor, and heart. It's a delightful blend of steamy romance, witty banter, and genuine emotional connection. Kennedy continues to prove why she's a favorite in the romance genre. If you enjoyed the Off Campus and Briar U series, "The Dixon Rule" is a perfect addition to your reading list.
I am a sucker for an enemies to lovers story. Did
I like this story? Yes. I liked the friendships and the closeness to family. I did think the intimate scenes were a little explicit for my taste, but if that’s what you like, this book is for you.
The Dixon Rules by Elle Kennedy
The Campus Diaries series #2. New adult romance, HFN. Fake relationship, friends with benefits troupes. Diverse.
Diana Dixon has a lot going on between rehearsals for a dance competition, two jobs, and an ex-boyfriend that won’t go away. She doesn’t want anything to do with the hot hockey player, Shane Lindley, who has slept his way through her entire cheer squad.
Shane has recently moved into the same building as Diana. He’s done with random hookups, and still has feelings for his ex-girlfriend who broke up with him. He asks Diana to pretend they’re together when his ex shows up and soon they find it’s a benefit they can both use. Fake soon turns to sizzling heat as they spend time together.
🎧 I listened to an audiobook of this story narrated by Erin Mallon and Corvin King in alternating POV chapters. These two narrators perform with great intensity making it easy to follow and really be engaged in the performance. Keep the windows rolled up as these college age characters enjoy a lot of sex. 🤣 Hot and panty melting! There is also some angst as expected as well with a parental death and a separate case of physical assault. Both of which had me crying.
Edited recording corrections are clear as the volume level changes for those. A bit annoying but those will bring you back to present rather than inactive listening.
Overall I thought the performances were wonderful and representative of the age group.
I listened to the book at my regular preferred speed of 1.5 which was the best for conversational comfort.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Dreamscape Select.
The Dixon Rule is so much more than a “college sports romance” - it’s deeply vulnerable, incredibly sexy and sweet, and has its moments of heaviness that broke my heart.
**Make sure to check trigger warnings, I wasn’t expecting some of the heavier topics in this story.

The Dixon Rule is the second book of The Campus Diaries. I personally liked the Graham Effect more since it had more hockey in it but The Dixon Rule is a very close second.
This is a great enemies to lovers with a lot of banter. There are a couple trigger warnings: death of a parent and domestic violence.
4.5⭐ This is my first time reading Elle Kennedy, and I will definitely be back for more! I haven't had a chance to read The Graham Effect yet, but I didn't feel like I missed out. I think this is a great standalone. I thought this book had a lot of fun dialog, smexy scenes, and real conversations between the main characters. This author really gets in depth into character development, involving the main characters' families and best friends. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone.
Chapter 50 made me cry, so many feels! I love Enemies to Lovers trope when it's done well, and this was so well done! I loved how Troy and Diana need each other while they're still enemies, but they quickly realize that they need each other emotionally as well. And what follows are hot interactions, emotionally charged dialog and what Diana goes through with her ex-boyfriend touches on a sensitive subject.
I listened to the audiobook of this story and I thought the narrators did a great job of bringing the characters to life.
Thank you Elle Kennedy and Netgalley for this ARC. The above is my own and personal opinion.
Elle Kennedy can do no wrong with the Off Campus universe! I love it so much. There’s always heart and humor. Narration was well done.
These books are SPICY but so much fun! I love that the spice is not the main part of the book. but they also have an awesome plot. I think i'll read everything that Elle Kennedy writes! perfect!
The Dixon Rule is another outstanding book from Elle Kennedy. I loved Dixon and Shane together. Their witty banter and constantly being there for each other made this such an amazing romance book. For me this book really read like a movie and I could picture everything that was happening. I will say this was definitely one of Elle Kennedy's most heart wrenching book for me. Make sure to read the trigger warning before starting this book or else you will be sobbing like I was.
Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape for this great audiobook!
