I enjoyed this novel. I listened to it while I was doing chores around the house. Elle Kennedy never disappoints!
Thanks so much to Elle Kennedy and Dreamscape Select for the Audiobook to review! I actually really liked the narrators for this one! I loved getting to read/listen about Shane and Diana’s story. Definitely one I would recommend!
4.5 stars
This is a good, entertaining, emotional read. Shane and Diana are interesting, complex, intriguing, relatable, entertaining, fun characters. I loved these characters as individuals and a couple. Their banter is so much fun and adds a levity to the book that at times is needed – especially the condo group chat. I love this world and it’s so much fun getting to see cameos of the characters from the off-campus series. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. This story took me on an emotional roller coaster ride. I was invest from the first word until the last and loved the experience. The story is easy to get into and read.
I enjoyed the audio version of this book and the narrators.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Hockey player + cheerleader? Say less.
Shane and Diana were quite literally one of my favorite couples I’ve read recently. The dynamic between the two of them had me laughing out loud— and often.
This enemies to lovers, fake dating novel was full of banter, tension, and the most hilarious moments that we can always expect from an Elle Kennedy book.
And while the spice was a solid 3.5 chili peppers, I adored the sweet moments just as much. The absolute growth and maturity of both characters really set the bar high for college MCs for me. I loved watching Shane find his worth while Diana securely pointed out how deserving he was of so much more than he had been given.
Although this book was light & fluffy, there are some TW that should be viewed prior to reading, as it can get dark in a few places.
There is nothing better than that five star feeling when reading a book, and from start to finish I had that gushing feeling with The Dixon Rule. Dare I say that this is Elle’s BEST book yet.
Short synopsis: This is the second book in the Briar University series, and follows cheerleader Diana Dixon and her new neighbor/ enemy/ school hockey player Shane Lindley. The two find themselves in mutually beneficial fake dating situation that eventually tuns into a friends with benefits proposal.
Thoughts: Shane was not the typical hockey star. He was a relationship AND a family guy, full of sunshine, into reality tv, learned to tango and was absolutely hilarious. The mutually beneficial fake relationship turned friends with benefits worked so well and made Diana and Shane’s relationship feel realistic. I felt like I not only knew the couple by the end of the book but also grew with them. Not only was there top notch banter, chemistry and spice but the book was full of depth! Elle did a great job handling these heavy topics and exposing the vulnerable side of both characters. The things I would do to read this again for the first time!
Read if you like:
-Hockey player x cheerleader
-Fake dating
-Friends with benefits
-Next door neighbors
-Tango dancing
-Hilarious HOA meetings
-Cameos of the OG prior crew
Diane and Shane are adorable in this book. This is part of the Campus Diaries series, book 2. Diane is a cheerleader and Shane, a hockey player. Both these characters were written really well.
I will pick up any book by this author. That being said, I adored this book.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Select for an audio ARC of this book for an honest review.
Oh my goodness that was spicy. Listening to that on audiobook was fantastic. I really enjoyed the narrators of Diana and Shane. I’m a diehard fan Elle Kennedy and will read everything she writes, but this was my first time listening to one of her audiobooks and I am officially hooked. This is one of my top recommendations for the summer. .
Thank you #Netgalley the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Elle Kennedy is the queen of sport romance and The Dixon Rule was engaging, fun and pure sport romance magic!
Listening to The Dixon rule on audiobook added an immersive reading experience. I loved the narrators. I thought that it made you feel like you were a bystander watching the story roll out. I really loved how interactive and engaging the story moved along and I felt the emotions as I was listening stronger. I laughed, I blushed, I swooned. I love the chemistry between Diana and Shane. I loved the cheerleader and hockey player dynamic. I loved the summer romance aspect of their story and I really enjoyed the friend/enemies with benefits to lovers because you could see how much she did not want to want him or like him and despite his cocky arrogance and jokes, she fell for him and there's so many fun tropes with the book that really made it enjoyable. It's fun, it's steamy, banter, slow burn, hate to love. Elle Kennedy fans will be thrilled that her writing style has only gotten better and I cannot wait for the next book. The Dixon Rule is a must read for the summer!
Ok Im seriously enjoy this series, the audio is amazing, loved it. Diana omg i love her bossiness, and Shane definitely off the roof, the spice is off the roof. Definitely enjoyed immensely.
4.5 Stars Wow, Elle Kennedy packed SO MUCH into The Dixon Rule! It was full of banter, chemistry, humor, and heart.
Diana Dixon has a lot going on, but no matter what, she has time to tell Shane Lindley to screw off. Fellow Briar University student and the best friend of her best friend's husband, Shane just moved into Diana's apartment building and seems to revel in messing with Diana. He's working his way through the girls on her cheer squad, he's throwing parties around the apartment complex, and he's bugging her whenever he can. This includes telling his ex-girlfriend that Diana is his new girlfriend to make her jealous. Though annoyed, a fake relationship is the perfect solution to get Diana's own ex-boyfriend off her back since he won't stop harassing her. The sassy remarks and sizzling banter between Shane and Diana soon ignites into a scorching FWB situation. The more they play fake boyfriend and girlfriend, the more real it all feels.
This book was one of the spiciest Elle Kennedy books I've read (though I'm sure Will and Beckett's book will put it to shame). With what starts off as a fun summer romance novel, The Dixon Rule turns into something so much deeper, especially surrounding family dynamics and toxic past relationships. Though heavy at times (yes, I was bawling at one point), Elle Kennedy handles it all with grace and this depth adds much more to Diana and Shane's story. There's a lot of fun in this book as well, including hilarious side characters at the apartment complex, a ballroom dance competition, and a reality TV show that you will get invested in as well.
Thanks Elle Kennedy, Bloom Books, and Dreamscape for the ARC!
I felt every emotion possible.
I was laughing out loud, giggling like a schoolgirl, angry with rage, and crying like a baby. SO GOOD. Diana and Shane might be my new favorite but in a different way. I felt they faced real life problems (looking v angrily at Percy) and so much of their story kept me in a chokehold. I was so invested. Their relationship was so fun to follow. The character development for Shane was *chef’s kiss*. I got a real kick out of their reality show nights/ conversations. I felt I could relate wholeheartedly lol.
I have high hopes Will and Beckett are book three. This series just keeps getting better and better.
Thanks so much NetGalley, Elle Kennedy, and Dreamscape Select for the ALC.
I can't believe I received this audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Select, for approving my small account.
To say this is one of my most anticipated book releases of the year is an understatement, Elle Kennedy is the reason why I started my Hockey Romance obsession and she could write a shopping list and I would still find it interesting.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book since it's the second installment in the series following The Graham Effect. The first book took us to the children of my favorite Hockey Romance series by Elle, Off-Campus, and I was hoping to continue with the legacy. However, this book focuses on Diana, who is Gigi's best friend (Garrett and Hannah's child), and Shane, one of the current Briar Hockey players.
When Shane moves next door to Diana, I knew we would either have a Fake Dating or a Friends with Benefits situation, and I am so glad it was both. The banter between the characters is just plain hilarious and I loved it so very much.
I loved stories where the love slowly develops first as a friendship and then as a slow burn that has the pages burning and gasping for more, and this book delivers completely.
I received the audiobook without TW and I wished I knew we deal with two very triggering issues, so I am leaving this here so you can decide if you want to read this story, of if you find this triggering not to continue.
The first trigger we deal with is domestic abuse. Although I appreciate how delicately Elle handles this sensitive subject, it is still a very difficult and emotionally draining experience. We deal with the aftermath of anxiety and trauma that often accompanies such situations.
The second thing is that one of our parents is sick with cancer, specifically pancreatic cancer. This was my triggering point and the reason why I skipped some chapters. I lost my mother to the same disease and those who have experienced losing someone to pancreatic cancer know how devastating and quickly this type of cancer takes your loved ones away.
Saying that, I enjoyed this book a lot, but The Graham Effect, is still my favorite, after listening to that bonus chapter I am so curious to see what Elle will bring in book 3 with Becket and Will, hoping to see more of the legacy's kids as well. I also loved getting a glimpse of our favorite Hockey players from Briar and their partners in this story.
Thank you again Dreamscape Select for sending this audiobook my way.
Elle Kennedy has once again delivered with The Dixon Rule!
Both student athletes at Briar University, The Dixon Rule follows Shane and Diana, fake dating frenemies with witty banter and insane sexual chemistry. (It’s a spicy book, y’all!) Shane and Diana were written as extremely likable and relatable characters from the start. What solidified The Dixon Rule as a five star read was the personal and emotional growth and depth that both Shane and Diana experienced throughout the book. Author Elle Kennedy balanced hard hitting topics and conversations within The Dixon Rule while also giving a beautiful and healthy love story between Shane and Diana.
Corvin King and Erin Mallon’s narration of The Dixon Rule in audiobook format enhanced the story through their interpretations and depictions of the range of emotions over the course of the book.
Personally, there was some disappointment that The Dixon Rule didn’t follow a second-generation from Off-Campus or Briar U series like The Graham Effect (Campus Diaries #1) did. However, The Dixon Rule gives long time readers some snippets into the lives of the families that are known and loved within this universe.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select and Elle Kennedy Inc. for an advanced copy of The Dixon Rule (in audiobook format) in exchange for my honest review.
This one was a mixed bag for me. Lots that I loved and lots that was not my cup of tea. I won’t be sharing this review widely, as I only share 4 stars and up.
Thanks to Dreamscape Select for the ALC for an honest review. I enjoyed the dual narrators i thought they did good a good job voicing the characters and bringing life to the book. They had the perfect college voice and narrated the book very well.
I liked this book it was light, fun, and a cute romance. Diana and Shane were cute first with their banter and then with their friends with benefit arrangement. Shane plays hockey and has a reputation for dating and dumping the cheerleaders on Diana's team. They agree to start fake dating to make Shane's ex jealous and to keep Diana's horrible ex away. After becoming friends and enjoying each other's time they decide to turn their sexual tension into a no-strings-attached situationship.
So this wasn't as good to me as the first book because there didn't seem to be a goal or a rhythm to the book but it was fun and had the sports romance that I can get through. There is a plot with Diana's ex who is an abusive stalker and Shanes's dad getting a terminal illness that hit me and sucked the fun right out of the book. Thankfully most of the 'real' stuff happened at the end of the book but ya it took the lightness out of the book especially since there weren't any content warnings. Anyway, this was an okay light read for the most part.
Content warning: Stalking, physical assault, death of a parent, cancer
