Thank you to Liane Moriarty, NetGalley, and Macmillan Publishing for the early release of Here One Moment. Moriarty is becoming one of my favorite authors. All of her books have a way of pulling you in from the first page and keeps you on your toes engrossed in the story throughout.

Imagine this - you are on a plane and a random woman comes up to you and tells you the age you are going to die and your cause of death. The shock, fear , maybe even some skepticism you feel is all valid. You could either take what this woman has said with a grain of salt or take measures into your own hands and try to fight fate. While each passenger’s lives continue after getting off that fateful plane they all begin to realize that maybe this woman knew what she was talking about when premonitions begin to come true.

Can we fight fate? Whether you die tomorrow or die in 50 years from now is our fate already sealed? Are there people who walk among us that can tell the future? A lesson about life, love , and loss wrapped into one in this incredible read.

This book releases this Tuesday September 10th. It is the perfect read to add to your fall tbr!

4.5 stars!

Here One Moment is on my OGT list! What a thought-provoking story, raising the questions of destiny, fate and the ability to see the future. There is quite the cast of characters to follow, yet they all have a role to play and fit well into the story. I especially enjoyed traveling memory lane with Cherry, to see how she arrived to being on the plane. An unexpectedly deep and heart warming story.

The topic for this book isn't new -- what if you knew when you were going to die? It's been covered in a number of recent books. But this didn't feel repetitive, or reductive in the least. I loved every single second I was reading it. It's over 500 pages, and I absolutely would have kept reading for another 500. I felt SO connected to every single character, and I wanted to know so much more about their lives and what happened to them after the book ended. My biggest complaint is that the epilogue was not enough! This is funny, emotional, tense, frustrating, just every emotion. I really can't recommend enough, this will certainly be one of my top five of the year.

How did this person who writes books I would normally never pick up become one of my favorite authors?
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
As with other of Liane’s books, about 50% of the way in I thought, “What is this and why am I reading it?” But by the end I ended up literally having a full body dopamine rush and happy tears in my eyes. This ranks up there with my favorites of her books.

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty
General Fiction / Mystery-Thriller

Add this one to your TBR or hold your place in line at the library!
Liane Moriarty's newest release begins on a delayed flight in Australia in which "The Death Lady," begins predicting age and cause of death for various passengers. This is obviously disturbing to some, while others brush it off as a prediction from a crazy old lady. After the flight we follow a handful of passengers while they handle, in their own ways, the predictions they received while we also learn The Death Lady's history.
In the weeks and months after the flight the characters contemplate fate vs. free will: can you change your fate or is everything predestined? Simultaneously, The Death Lady makes us contemplate fate vs. statistics and cognitive biases.
- Liane Moriarty, I feel, is a savant at character work and really fleshing out each character, even with as big as her casts are- I loved how the story lines wrapped up in the end- This book really hit me in the mortality-feels: GO LIVE YOUR LIFE! - Every book of Liane Moriarty’s that I have read has made me actually LOL in places, including this one! - I considered rating this one lower because of the length, but ultimately can’t say what parts i'd cut either, so here we are at a solid 5!

I could NOT put this book down! I was hooked from the first page. The premise of the book really intrigued me - the idea that a sweet looking old lady might stand up in the middle of a flight and start predicting (accurately!) age and cause of death for each of the passengers was juuust believable enough to suck me in. I really enjoyed following the threads of each of the different passengers and how the predictions impacted their lives. The writing was sharp and witty and each of the characters felt fully fleshed out. Cherry's back story felt a little long winded at some points but by the end it was clear how everything tied together and impacted the plot. I really loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone!

I love Liane Moriarty. She writes these complex layered stories about the inter-connectedness of people and their seemingly inconsequential actions and interactions. Her stories are always more than they seem, with each tendril of story curling back to wrap around another. Her characters are complex, being oblivious and funny while being introspective and sometimes very sad, all at once.

Although there were a few rather forgettable characters, overall I really enjoyed this one.

4 Stars

I was pleasantly surprised with this book! Not gonna lie, I have no liked Liane's last 2 books. This one was a winner! Lots of emotions while reading this book with the message of live your lives to the fullest.
If you knew your future, would you try to fight fate?

Thank you to Crown Publishing for giving me the chance to read an early digital copy of this book. Liane Moriarty has been one of my favorites, even before my pre-bookstagram days when I first read Big Little Lies that just so happened to be on a Kindle that was given to me. I have pretty much loved all of Liane's books, so of course, I was looking forward to reading this one as soon as I saw she had a new book coming out. A couple of the things that I love about Liane's books are the different perspectives she writes from but manages to make it all come together, and her stories often make me think. Here One Moment is no different, and I can see why so many people love it, as well as why it was chosen as a BOTM add on. Curling up with a Liane Moriarty book is, for me, like revisiting an old friend, and she never disappoints!

I ended up listening to the audiobook version of this (highly recommend!) and I really loved this one. The characters, as in all of her books, are so vivid and alive, the humor is A+ and of course, it has Liane's trademark wisdom as well. I was worried about the length--I feel like there's been a trend of overly long books lately and I'm not a fan of that, but I flew through this one as if it was 300 pages. Thank you for the arc and I look forward to getting this in readers' hands!

I almost gave up on this book after the first few chapters because I wasn't sure where the story was heading. I am really glad I stuck with it because I became totally engrossed in the story, and the diverse set of characters, especially the main character Cherry who turned out to be an extremely sympathetic and touching character. I kept wondering how author was going to make the story all come together, and she did in a way that made logical sense but was emotional at the same time. It was certainly a book that made me think on a deeper level about fate and how the interconnectedness of humans can change on a dime.

Just under a 3 - I will surely be the outlier on this - just a reminder that you can be that at any time, with any book, by any author - but this wasn't it for me. Not making it easier to like - for what it was, it was long as hell. The beauty of a Liane Moriarty book for me is the quick page turn and this didn't have it. Liane Moriarty reigns supreme in her world of multiple perspective, layered, character-driven psychological fiction and her newest offering falls right in line with the rest of her oeuvre. During a short domestic flight, an older woman (later known as the Death Lady) gets out of her seat and works her way through the cabin, proclaiming the age and manner of death for each of her fellow passengers. Seemingly an eccentric act of a possible addled individual, credence is only given to her predictions when a young woman does indeed die as predicted just a few months later. Told from the point of view of the Death Lady herself, a flight attendant, and several affected passengers, the fallout from this shocking event plays out in surprising and interrelated ways. One can already cast Nicole Kidman in a role for the future adaptation.

I’m going to be thinking about this one for a while. I have loved Liane Moriarty since I read The Husband’s Secret and then went and read every single thing she’s ever written. This book is perfection and brought me back to those earlier works which I adored.

This will make a great book club read. What would you do if someone told you what age and how you would die? Thinking about that- how you can change your life for the better, or the worse is so interesting and intriguing to me. It reminded me of the self fulfilling prophecy aspect of The Measure to think about it.

This story is rich with characters and backstories in true Moriarty fashion and this will for sure be one of my top reads of the year. LOVED IT.

Thanks to NetGalley and Crown for my ARC of this amazing story.

This book was incredibly fascinating. I love books that make you think, wonder, reflect and question, “what would I do in this situation?”. I was thoroughly invested in all the characters who had their fate predicted. I was very curious to see how this book would unravel. The first half was very engaging and even thrilling to read! Unfortunately, by the time I got to the second half it started to drag. On one hand I enjoyed the variety and diversity of all the characters…each with powerful messages, on the other hand, I also felt like it was anticlimactic and too long.

I absolutely recommend this book if you’re in the mood for something different to read! Keep in mind this is more of a fiction novel with heavy themes of grief and death.

Truly one of the richest, most inspiring, exciting, and engrossing books I've read in the last few years. I've always loved Moriarty's writing stylistically, but her content also always appeals to me. The way she covers the most extreme of situations with so much depth, empathy, and understanding is fascinating as a writer. This book, covering some very philosophical topics, was unstoppable and addictive for me.
I've never underlined more sentences, and never stopped to reread words so often. There are so many perspectives and characters in this novel, each written with precision and distinct voices despite the third-person that exists. Cherry enveloped me from her first line and I felt understood and reflected by so many characters.
I absolutely adore books that toe the line between the supernatural and rationally mysterious. When they're written with dexterity like Moriarty's, the reader is the real judge. We get to explore psychics and mathematics as illuminating forces of the world that change the lives of so many people all because of one flight. It's epically beautiful, sad, and such a real reflection of humanity. At times, I just wanted to sink into the story and speak to these characters because they felt so powerful to me. I can't wait to keep coming back to this book, to pull out lines and show others just how much of our reality I see in it.

I’ve been a big fan of Liane Moriarty since I read some of her previous works. 𝘉𝘪𝘨 𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘶𝘴𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘥’𝘴 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵, 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘈𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘰𝘵 to name a few.

So I knew I had to my get my hands on an ARC of her newest novel, Here One Moment.

A thought provoking story told in multiple POVs starts out with a mysterious older woman who during mid-flight, starts pointing at passengers and giving predictions of the their futures. In their case…

“Cause of death. Age of death”

Obviously those passengers with predictions coming sooner than they would like, contemplate their lives and start to wonder if fate can be fought. If someone told you that you only had a few weeks to live, how would you live those last few moments?

I loved all the chapters with Cherry and her backstory. Moriarty has a way with story telling and keeping the reader intrigued with every chapter wanting to know the outcome of the story. This book will pull at your heart strings and I highly recommend this brilliant and beautiful novel that I hope will one day get adapted for the big screen!

Thank you to Crown Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

Here One Moments asks the thought provoking questions: If you knew when and how you were going to die, would you change your life? Would you try to prevent it? Or how would you handle this knowledge.

Told from multiple POV that following the main characters who received their death prediction on a flight to Sydney, Australia, this novel immediately grabbed my attention. The chapters are short, which makes this an easy novel to pick up and put down with the busyness of life.

The ARC chapters weren't clearly labeled with POV but that was probably changed in the final copy. Otherwise this is a gripping mystery/thriller to add to your TBR list for fall 2024.

Thank you Crown Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC.

I love how Liane Moriarty tackles subjects that are often difficult to broach with grace and a touch of humor. With her ability to give every character a 3 dimensional persona there isn’t a single character who ends up on the sidelines, thus making reading her books an immersive experience.
On a typical short flight the only snafu should have been the delay in take off, but during the flight, a woman gets up from her seat and begins to tell each passenger how and how old they will be when they die. Some are given lots of time while others are given mere months.. Some of the passengers laugh it off while others take their prediction to heart but a few months later when the first passenger dies at the age and of the cause that was predicted the other passengers begin to worry that perhaps “The Death Lady” actually was a psychic. This follows the woman who was given the unfortunate moniker of The Death Lady and 6 of the passengers as they all deal with the implications of the predictions.
My synopsis makes this book sound dark and sinister, but it isn’t either of those things. This is a brilliantly written character drama that asks the question if you knew how and when you were going to die, would you change how you were living?
Death is one of those taboo topics that people really don’t like to talk about and Ms. Moriarty has normalized it from every aspect. I love how tactfully this subject is handled and the quote at the end is the perfect finisher.
Thank you to NetGalley and Crown Publishing for an advanced copy of this book. Here One Moment hits the shelves on September 10th.

This was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I found the premise to be wildly intriguing and it really started with a bang - then, around 25% I found it starting to drag a little bit. I think there were a few too many Cherry chapters, which I therefore found myself skimming - but was super invested in the stories of the passengers. Ultimately, I loved how it wrapped up and so many things about this book but just wish it had been edited down to be a bit shorter for a faster pace. I would still recommend this and think it would make a good book club read as I have so many thoughts I would love to discuss after reading it!
