Wow. What a plot. You are on a plane with a woman who starts going up and down the aisles, telling everyone their age and cause of death. For some, it was far into the future…but for a few on the plane…it was very soon! The book flows through different chapters, sharing these characters lives after they depart the plane….mixing with some chapters about the Death Lady herself…both past and present. Liana Moriarty has this way of writing her characters that really gets you invested in their lives and you start to care about what happens to them. There were a lot of people to keep up with in this book, but then you really start to know them and it is quite difficult to put down! This reminds me more of her older books, which I enjoyed so much. I don’t want to say more…..I just want you to read it! And if you already have read it, let’s discuss!!!

Bottom Line: Read it!

Thank you so much to Crown Publishing, Penguin, and Netgalley for approving me for one of my favorite author's ARCs! Here One Moment follows the passengers of a flight where something extraordinary is happening - people are learning when and how they are going to die. No one knew how this person got onto the flight. Her appearance is unremarkable, and she doesn't shine a light on herself by being drunk or nervous. Passengers believe this is all a joke, and they go on about their day like nothing has happened. Everything was quiet until a few months later when someone dies just the way this person predicted. Then two more passengers die the same way. Soon, no one is thinking this was just a funny party trick. If you were told how and when you were going to die, would you do things differently? How would you live? Would you try to dodge the prediction you were told?

The concept of this book is excellent, but the execution wasn't. I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting from this book, but I don't think this was it. The huge cast of characters was the first big turnoff in this book. Trying to keep up with everyone throws you off and makes you disassociate with the book, and, in the end, you just don't care about anyone because you never get to know them well. I was invested in one or two characters throughout the book, and that made the story a bit interesting, but not enough for me to rate this story any higher than three stars. You also get to know the "Death-Lady", whose name is Cherry. We learn of her back story that doesn't exactly fit into the concept of the book, and I was bored of her perspective very quickly, especially since you jump in between her POV and the other characters' POVs every other chapter. The book is 512 pages long and could have easily been less if we didn't jump between the huge cast of characters so much that it just ends up being repetitive in the end due to the paranoia and worry everyone has.

This ended up being a "how is this going to end?" type of book because if I wasn't 100% curious, I could have easily DNF'd this book. I didn't like how the author tied things up in the end. I was VERY disappointed with how simple and quick the book ended. I did enjoy how much this book makes you think and how it puts your real life in perspective, but not enough for this to be rated any higher. Overall, this book is just okay. Not my favorite of hers, but it's one that will make me think for a very long time.

“Here One Moment” is not the twisty psychological thriller that Moriarty fans love. This is more of an introspective character driven story. It will leave you asking yourself, “what would you do differently if you knew you were going to die?” “What would you want to do with a loved one to ensure you had no regrets?” These are the questions people on a Sydney flight are left asking themselves after a nondescript woman predicts for each of them, their cause and age of death. The novel goes on to follow several of the memorable characters as they grapple with their morality. The narrative alternates back to the life story of Cherry, “the Death Lady” as she becomes known.
I was disappointed in this novel because I was looking forward to more of a thriller. However it’s full of Moriarty’s humor, quick wit and mastery of prose; there’s a lot to enjoy if you know what you’re getting into.

Liane Moriarty's HERE ONE MOMENT has been sitting on my TBR shelf for way too long. I started this way before publication but was never able to get into it - a surprise because I adore many of Moriarty's previous books. I finally picked it up again last week. I have mixed feelings about this one … the last quarter or so is phenomenal, but it took a while to get there because it’s so long.

The premise of HERE ONE MOMENT is creepy and fantastic: an ordinary woman tells people on a plane their age and when they’re going to die. When some of these predictions come true, people start to realize that they should probably change their lives before it’s too late.

My main complaint is that there are a lot of characters to keep track of, and Cherry’s story isn’t as compelling as I wish it would have been. Overall, however, HERE ONE MOMENT is a poignant read and the epilogue rounded the story out nicely. This might have worked better for me as a movie or show?

A sincere thank you to Crown Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read HERE ONE MOMENT in exchange for my honest feedback, and I apologize that my feedback is late.

What would you do if someone told you when and how you would die? Would you believe it, would you try to change your course in life? Would you live your life differently and perhaps change the outcome? Or would you ignore the information and continue on in life as you always have? Such questions and so many choices.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. If you had the chance to see the future, would you want to know when your life would end? This kept going through my mind throughout the entire story. I enjoyed learning about the various characters, then finding out what really made Cherry’s brain tick. Moriarity did it again with a great books!

This book was so interesting because it introduced all these characters with unreliable narration. I was invested in some story lines more than others and found myself putting it down when it switched. At times it was a jarring transition. Overall enjoyed the plot and unraveling of the story.

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty is a thought-provoking and intricately crafted exploration of fate, relationships, and the choices we make. The story begins with Allegra Patel, a flight attendant who is just trying to get through a long day on her twenty-eighth birthday. As the flight is delayed, Allegra observes the passengers around her, each of them preoccupied with their own lives and worries. From the well-dressed man anxious about missing his daughter’s musical to a mother struggling to balance her career and family, Moriarty deftly introduces a cast of characters whose paths will unexpectedly intersect.

The twist comes when a mysterious woman stands up during the flight and begins making chilling predictions about how and when each passenger will die. Some passengers scoff at her warnings, while others become consumed with fear and try to defy her prophecies. This surreal event sets the stage for a deeper exploration of the big questions in life: What would you do if you knew how your life would end? How would it change your decisions about love, career, and personal relationships?

Moriarty’s trademark wit shines through in Here One Moment, as she balances humor and heartbreak with her signature style. The characters are relatable and nuanced, and the novel’s exploration of regret, unfulfilled dreams, and the unpredictability of life is both poignant and compelling. The central theme of how we hold onto and let go of the people and moments that matter most is sure to resonate with readers.

Here One Moment is an engaging, cleverly structured tale that will make you reflect on your own life choices and the unpredictable turns fate can take. Fans of Liane Moriarty’s previous works will find this novel to be just as captivating, with its deep emotional insights, humor, and unexpected twists.

What can't Liane Moriarty do? The entire premise of this book was fascinating. The idea that some mad woman on a plane was going around telling everyone how they would die and any of it coming true is terrifying. Especially for those with young kids. I was entranced by this book.

I am so relieved that this was better than apples never fall. I am a huge liane fan and after her last book I was scared to read this newest one, but I’m trying to clear my NetGalley shelf lol. This one started off with a bang and I was SOOO invested in the story. It reminded me of the measure, but better. I did feel as if it started to drag and became long. There were also a bunch of storylines which were hard to follow & I wished the chapter titles were the characters names. I also don’t know if I would have preferred the spiritual/magical realism ending or the ending we got of Cherry just having a menty b. There is still obviously that element as she did predict some things that happened but like in the measure where it was some mysterious box and we never got the answer, i would have enjoyed that element here too but with answers. Overall I still had so much fun and read it in a little over 24 hours (which is crazy because it’s huge) and I’m relieved to say I am excited for her next book

I love Liane Moriarty and read every book she releases but the predicted child drowning proved to be a huge trigger I could not get over after just having a newborn. I DNFed hoping I could come back to it at a later time (previously wasn’t a problem for me while reading Truly Madly Guilty) but just haven’t reached that place yet. I think the start was also a little slow. It was emotionally easy to DNF at around 20% as I did not feel invested yet but was otherwise enjoying the premise. Still hoping to revisit but guessing it will be years in yhe future.

This book has short, punchy chapters that jump from one character to the next. These characters were all on a flight from Tasmania to Sydney when a "lady" ( no one thinks of her as a woman or any other appellation than "lady") stands up, points fingers at everyone on the plane, one at a time, while walking down the aisle, and says "I expect..." and then a method of death. Everyone gets a death prediction. Why did the lady do this? And was she right? And what would you do if you got one of those death predictions? These questions are what the book finally answers.

Even though we are in the lady's head for many of these chapters and get her entire life history eventually, we don't know why she did what she did until the end of the book. This could have been precious and annoying, but I was interested in a lot of the other stories along the way too.

Liane Moriarty has sort of a breezy comic tone that gently mock a lot of the characters but she also eventually seems to care about them and I eventually did too.

Really, this is a book about loss. What do you do when threatened with or confronted with loss? How do you feel? How do you prepare? How can you cope? It's really rather sad in parts. But that's life, isn't it? Everyone dies, everyone must face loss, everyone goes through this. The book feels very humanistic. It ended up packing a punch and making me think as well as entertaining me.

The premise of this book drew me in. At first I thought that Cherry was not psychic and the events that happened to those on the plane random. However this book made me think about what I would do if I received a life prediction. I enjoyed the characters and how they became friends with Cherry. The ending wrapped up a number of the predictions. A good book club title - 3.5 stars

I could not ignore this book once I read the premise… a “psychic” lady on a plane telling people their age and manner of death and seeing how it unfolds… just wild.

I was extremely surprised at how character driven this book was (and there are a LOT of characters). Because of this, the story didn’t unfold how I was expecting at all. I love Cherry, the main character, and the way she narrates her POV. I LOL’d, I held my breath, can I say she’s actually very relatable?

I can admit that there were points where it almost felt TOO character driven? Nevertheless, I stayed engaged to see where all of this was going and the relevance of it all, and the ending was actually my favorite part. It’s makes you think, it wraps the pieces together on a way I couldn’t image. It was honestly perfect.

This is my first book by this author and I love her writing style. Can’t wait to pick up her others!

I am a fan of Liane Moriarty's storytelling. Unfortunately this story fell short for me. It was a pretty average read for me.

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty. This book was WILD. You never could have guessed the direction it was going. Literally kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending wrapped everything up. I really enjoyed the plot, characters and pace of this book!

Thank you to Crown Publishing and PRH Audio for the copies to review.

I don’t know why it took me so long to read this one, because I really loved it. The premise was fascinating and it was well executed, I wasn’t sure how it would wrap up but I loved how it did. The narrators did a lovely job with this one also, I thought they really helped to enhance the story. It was a little on the long side but at the same time I was connected with the characters and vested in the story, so via audio I did not mind hanging out with them for a while. It definitely made me think about my own life and how I’m spending it, which does not happen often, especially with this genre.

Such an interesting story that actually made me stop and think about my life. I enjoyed following the characters along the journey as predictions came true that were made on a plane. Just makes you think about your own life and what is ahead that we are unaware of and what you would
Change if you knew the future.
Thanks for the advanced copy from NetGalley and the publisher.
