I'm going to start with Liane Moriarty has been one of my favorite authors of all time for...as long as I can remember! I've LOVED and DEVOURED so many of her novels. To say I was excited to read her new book is an understatement.

Unfortunately, Here One Moment did not hit the same. It was choppy. It was all over the place without a good distinction of what each chapter was in regards to.
The overall premise of the book and underlying theme was good. Live life to the fullest. You dont know when it will be your last day. But the execution, particularly the last third or so of the book, it didnt tie together well. Things started to fall apart. There was no real reason for the premonitions.

I will always love Liane Moriarty as she had such a large impact on making me love reading! This isnt my favorite of hers but shes always worth the read!

Thank you SO much to Crown Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of Here One Moment. Liane Moriarty is one of my all-time favorite authors and continues to thrill and delight!

We’re all here one moment and gone the next. In Liane Moriarty’s new buzzy novel, Here One Moment, we board an airplane full of passengers - strangers who don’t know each other but will be brought together by a singular, bizarre event. A woman stands mid-flight and walks the aisle, pointing at each and every passenger and predicting their death day. Sure to be a fluke, the passengers depart the flight dismissive and in denial. But then, one by one, the predictions begin to come true. Those who don’t have much time left begin to wonder if there’s a way to direct their own fate, or has it already been decided?

This novel is unique among Moriarty’s pantheon, for not only following so many characters and their individual lives, but exploring the way one theoretically insignificant moment can affect many, creating a web of introspection and connection. Moriarty remains a must-read, creating compelling characters and exploring the frontier of the Big Question we all grapple with: How long are we here for, and will we use our time wisely?

Occasionally busy with so many characters to keep track of, Here One Moment is a worthy if ambitious effort. I believe it definitely would have benefited from character names in the chapter titles to make keeping track of each POV more seamless. As the characters continued to reach their inevitable(?) death days, I was captivated by the possibility that any of them could divert their endings. It was a thought-provoking and meaningful trip, serving as a reminder that we’re all here for a limited amount of time. What will you do with it?

*I received a copy of this book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for this opportunity*

On an ordinary afternoon on an ordinary domestic flight, Cherry Lockwood stands up and begins predicting the age and cause of her fellow passengers deaths. While most of the passengers remain skeptical (after all, who predicts a seven-year old's death by drowning? Or new bride's death by intimate partner homicide?), when deaths begin to occur as predicted, people have to make a decision. Are they going to live like the predictions are set in stone, or are they going to fight until the end?

The story follows seven main characters, including Cherry "The Death Lady" herself, with impending demises. Told in alternating points of view, as more of Cherry's past is revealed and odd coincidences begin to occur to our narrators, Liane Moriarty tackles the idea of fate versus free will. How much do our everyday decisions impact our longevity? Is it impossible to fight against destiny, or does it change based on choice?

Complicated, twisting, and interwoven, the seven main characters each have a vivid and meaningful story to tell. Some in particular, Allegra, Ethan, and Paula, were particularly compelling. However, it was difficult at times to keep track of all the character-- and since there was no marker at the beginning of each chapter, it was sometimes confusing who's point of view I was reading.

By the end of HERE FOR A MOMENT, I was completely enthralled and I thoroughly enjoyed the thoughtful connections of. each character's story. However, much of the book could have been cut back-- perhaps even entire character's. While the first few chapters of the book were intriguing, the plot slowed way down until the last third of the book as impending deaths loomed closer.

This book was more philosophical and literary than fast-paced thriller. It gave me plenty to think on about life and gratitude, as well as whether or not I believe in psychics.

Liane Moriarty has done it again. I've read everything in her back catalog and Here One Moment is my favorite, I loved the exploration of fate and free will in this delightfully character-rich novel. Her writing encapsulates the perfect balance between driving plot and compelling characterization. Well done!

I have enjoyed most Liane Moriarty books that I have read. This one started out enjoyable. I liked the premise of the book. Knowing how and when you would die, what would you do. The book went back and forth between characters. It was a little confusing. I looked back to be sure I had their particular storyline correct. I felt the book dragged. toward the middle, and the ending was thrown together.

I really liked this book. I wasn't into it for the first few chapters but then it sucked me in and I couldn't put it down. Love the way everything ties together in the end.

Obsessed!!!! Moriarty is back with a tale that grabbed me immediately and didn’t let up! I immediately fell in love with the way Moriarty introduced all of the characters and set the scene succinctly. I love multiple POV stories because I fall for the various characters and can’t wait to see how their stories end so I especially loved that feature. There was lots of intrigue and anticipation and, in usual Moriarty fashion, an emphasis on human connections and shared experiences reigned supreme. If you are a fan of the OG Moriarty novels (Big Little Lies, What Alice Forgot), you will LOVE Here One Moment. I definitely did!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance electronic copy. All opinions are my own.

This was an interesting story. I liked how things tied together but it took a long time to get there. I kept trying to think what this book reminded me of. Part they both die in the end and part anxious people. Plus something else I can’t figure out yet.

I plan to share a review of this on my Instagram on sept 9th.

Thank you for Liane Moriarty’s latest title. I gobble up her books! This one took me a bit to get into because it took me a bit to figure out what was going on, but once I did I got really into it! Always love her work.

Thank you NetGalley for my arc. Unfortunately, i didn’t enjoy this one to the point I couldn’t even finish it. I normally like Liane Moriarty but this one was boring to me. I also found there were way too many characters to try and keep track of the different storylines and which person each chapter was about.

This book is so unique and based on a fascinating premise: What would you do if you knew when and how you would die? Readers will find out how an array of diverse characters handle this situation and it sparks such feelings of compassion, humility, and empathy. There were many observations about life that made me stop and think in wonder; this is a beauty of a book. However, it is long, and not a quick read, so be prepared for that. Also, prepare to be changed by this story. Thank you to Crown Books and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

"Here One Moment" by Liane Moriarty is a thought-provoking read that explores the essence of mortality and human connection. Set on a seemingly ordinary flight, this captivating story takes a sudden turn when passengers receive startling revelations about their impending deaths.

Moriarty's storytelling is undeniably compelling, as she weaves together the fates of these strangers in an unexpected and profound way. While some passengers are granted long and prosperous lives, others are left grappling with the immediacy of their impending demise.

The story explores the emotional turmoil and revelations that arise from these predictions, and the resulting narrative is rich with introspection. However, it's worth noting that the pacing can be a bit slow at times, and readers may find that the climax of the story doesn't quite reach the heights one might expect given the intriguing premise.

That being said, the novel ultimately delivers a powerful and uplifting message about cherishing life, embracing our time with loved ones, and appreciating the beauty in everyday moments. I found myself swept up in the story and its cast of characters, earning "Here One Moment" a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Passengers on a flight get their prediction of cause of death and age of death unwittingly from another passenger who becomes known as “The Death Lady.” Great if she tells you 89 or 94 that is years away, but what about next year for those who are young? For some she gives an either young age or close date or both. Is she a psychic? Is she crazy? No one knows what to believe until her predictions start becoming true. Do you try to change your behavior to avoid death? Woven in is her personal story from when she is a kid to present, growing up with a mom Madame Mae who is a fortune teller. The chapters are short and end on cliffhangers. It’s a must read!

She’s back! I had an amazing time reading this novel. It caught me from the very beginning and went in so many different directions that I did not expect. Such a great premise for a story line. Who has t wondered when and how they are going to die? But when it comes down to it, do we really want to know? I loved all of the ins and outs of the character’s lives and how they handled their information. This book is more than just about life and death though— the relationships between the characters spoke to me as did the individual character’s personal growth. It is a reminder to us all that life is what you make it. Thank you NetGalley and Crown Publishing for providing me with an ARC.

As always, Liane Moriarty delivers another compulsively readable story with Here One Moment.
While on a delayed flight one day, a woman stands up in the aisle and delivers to her fellow passengers what she predicts to be their cause and age of death.
From there the story follows a select few of these passengers as they attempt to navigate their way through their lives with this knowledge.
I couldn't stop reading, waiting to see how their stories would all play out.

4.5 stars

I had such a good time with HERE ONE Moment by Liane Moriarty, and it publishes September 10, 2024. This novel has the vibes of Moriarty's WHAT ALICE FORGOT in the sense that there's no murder or big mystery, but the topic is more related to THE MEASURE.

On a flight from Hobart to Sydney, an older woman passenger gives people her prediction for their cause and age of death. The novel follows several of the characters who received near death dates as well as one whose baby received a death sentence at age 7.

The author created some fantastic characters! I found each of the passengers and the one flight attendant so interesting, and I particularly enjoyed how carefully she crafted the Paula character post plane flight. I could definitely see myself reacting how Paula did.

The structure of the novel switches between 5-7 characters, but at a certain point every other chapter becomes the "Death Lady's" (Cherry's) POV. She is a quirky, socially awkward woman who is the daughter of a psychic. While I was entertained by her POV some of the time, it's definitely a chunk of this novel. Moriarty gives her a large dose of wry humor and keen observations, but I do think her story could have been cut down a bit. I actually would have appreciated more pages devoted to the other passengers' stories (it felt like some of their stories might have been cut instead of Cherry's).

I felt the big question of whether destiny or fate can be circumvented, as evidenced by how the passengers react to Cherry's predictions, was a thought-provoking question to take on in this novel. I think this would be a good book club book.

An age-question: if you knew when and how you were going to die, would it change the way you were living your life? This novel explores the answer when a plane full of passengers is given that information by a woman who appears to be psychic. As you might imagine, there are a lot of characters to deal with which lessened my enjoyment as I seemed to be constantly looking back to reacquaint myself with who they were. Many characters also meant less time for each to be fully developed so I had less attachment to their lives and predicament. I did like the chapters devoted to the psychic.

Thanks to NetGalley and Crown Publishing for the ARC to read and review.
