Liane Moriarty is an auto-buy author for me. Her books consistently captivate me, keeping me on the edge of my seat with their intricate plots and compelling characters. However, this latest book fell short of my expectations. The premise had me excited, promising an intriguing storyline as it delved into the lives and predictions of the passengers on the flight. I loved immersing myself in their individual stories, each one richly detailed and engaging.
Yet, despite the strong characters and beautiful writing that Moriarty is known for, I found the chapters about Cherry to be a significant drawback. These sections felt unnecessarily drawn out and lacked the same intensity as the rest of the book. I often found myself skimming through these pages, eager to return to the more gripping parts of the narrative.
Overall, while the book had its highlights and demonstrated Moriarty's talent for character development and storytelling, it ultimately was a miss for me due to the pacing issues and the less engaging Cherry storyline with flashbacks.
Have you ever wondered what you would do if someone predicted your age of death and cause of death? Well, this is what Liane Moriarty's latest spectacular novel answers.
A variety of characters, more than slightly annoyed by delayed air travel (everyone can relate), eventually start actually flying. At some point, a woman gets up and tells EVERY person on board (including one flight attendant) what age they will die and how they will. Some folks are relieved and others are terrified. I was especially enamored with a mom told the age of her children's deaths. Probably because I am a mom myself, it is the one that stuck with me.
Ultimately, this story is not as scary/ thriller as it sounds by the plot alone. It is a tale of living your life to the fullest and carp-ing the heck out of some diem. I enjoyed it thoroughly and devoured it in two nights.
Brava, Ms. Moriarty! Another fantastic novel!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the Kindle ARC. Liane Moriarty is one of my go-to authors so I was very excited to be able to access her latest book early. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it as much as I wish I could have or as much as I've enjoyed her previous books. Cherry is in her senior years and is quirky but also believes herself to be a psychic. On a flight to Sydney, Cherry leaves her seat and begins pointing at other passengers, predicting the way they will die and their lifespans. The story is a book about fate and if our destinies are predetermined or are in our control. Not my favorite book of Ms. Moriarty's. I found the character of Cherry to be just a little too quirky for me.
I enjoyed the concept of this one and enjoyed the book until the ending which i didn't feel fit the book.
We all share one inevitability in our lives: Death! And the question that we each, no doubt, have pondered: When and how am I going to die? That question is at the heart of this story. It begins when a nondescript airline passenger suddenly, as if in a trance, walks down the aisle and announces the year and cause of death of her fellow travelers. Is she a psychic or a kook? As we follow the resulting impact of her predictions on some of the recipients, we also learn “psychic” Cherry’s back story.
This publication is being released September 10th. I am a long time fan of this author and she’s scored another great read for me. Thank you NetGalley and Crown Publishing for providing this interesting book.
I really struggled with the multiple POVs in this one. Some of the characters dragged out and I think cutting back on some of them could have really made this book quicker and better- it was too long for me. I do think the story had an interesting and unique premise which was great.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC opportunity!
If you know your future, would you try to fight fate?
This story begins on a flight to Sydney- where a woman begins making predictions to all of the passengers, providing their cause of death and age of death.
Naturally, some are happy with their predictions, some are laughing nervously, and some weren’t taking it seriously.
When the flight lands and the passengers disperse, the story then breaks off into multiple points of view. We then follow several passengers, as well as the woman who made the predictions.
Pros: I was invested in a few of the characters and their story. Unique premises for a story
Cons: I found some of Cherry’s chapters to not add enough to the story. Multiple POV could be confusing at times
Overall I found this a unique story. While I would have liked a faster pace it was still interesting! I will definitely read more from this author.
Queen of writing engrossing characters. I was so invested in these individuals and weather they would meet their predicted fate. This book really did surprise me and it went in directions didn’t expect but that ultimately really worked for the story
Highly recommend .
Many thanks to the publisher, Netgalley, and the author for my ARC
First off: thanks to Netgalley for an Advanced Review Copy in exchange for an honest review
I will be honest.....this book took me quite a bit to get into. Partly the freaking short chapters (like four pages max). Partly the constantly bouncing storyline told froma differing protagonist....including one whose name we didn't know until more than halfway through the book.
However, the book really winds its way towards a good question: what would you do, how would you live, if you "knew" the age and means at which you would die? That is what occurs for several passengers aboard an airline with a really wacky lady. A lady who claims to know the way some will die and at what age. As you might imagine, the lives of people are never the same
In typical Moriarty style, nothing is as it seems. The wacky lady has more going on. Is she really a psychic? Will the little boy Timmy really die of a drowning at age 7? Will Eva die via intimate partner homicide? All of these are questions that haunt and guide and change.
It's hard to say if I would recommend this book because of how hard I struggled to get into it. But thankfully I didn't hate it! (I was worried there for a second)
Thank you to NetGalley for sending me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review!

This may have been my favorite Liane Moriarty book! I have ready many of her others, but this one takes the top spot. I highly reccomend this book to fiction lovers and anyone a fan of Liane Moriarty! Can fate be fought? This book begins with the story of a random passenger on an airplane assigning cause and age of death to all the other passengers. It then follows both the "psychic" and some of the other key passengers for the rest of the book in small micro chapters.
It was so enjoyable learning about the main characters back story and the micro details that may have led her to the event. It also was interesting to see the different perspectives of all the passengers and hoe recieving this "fortune" affected them and their outlook on life.
The ending was spectatular and leaves it up to the reader to determine what they really think the truth is which I just loved.
Its a great book about leaves you thinking about potential unknown we live everyday and what would you do if you knew the potential outcome of your life.
I haven’t read a book by this author that I didn’t like! I love her writing and the way the plot unfolds. Definitely a good read!
Here One Moment
by Liane Moriarty
Pub Date: Sept. 10, 2024
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I could not put this down! Liane Moriarty’s Here One Moment is a brilliantly constructed tale that looks at free will and destiny, grief and love, and the endless struggle to maintain certainty and control in an uncertain world. A modern-day Jane Austen who humorously skewers social mores while spinning a web of mystery, Moriarty asks profound questions in her newest I-can’t-wait-to-find-out-what-happens novel.
This book was great and I cannot wait to see you read it too!
Regardless of fate or psychic abilities, I absolutely loved reading about Cherry’s life and backstory. I loved Cherry’s character (maybe not from the start), and as lengthy as this book was I was sad to see it end. I shed many tears at the end of this book, and I would recommend having tissues nearby. I questioned my own life and destiny, and I think many of you will too after reading this. This is by far my favorite Liane Moriarty book. I cannot wait until this book is published so I can have a hardcover for my own personal shelves. I highly recommend this book, and hope you love it as much as I did!
Liane Moriarty strikes gold again with her newest novel that opens in a flight setting with a woman predicting when each of her fellow passengers is going to die. This obviously creates a sense of havoc and things begin to escalate after that… so good!
If you knew your future, would you try to fight fate?
2.5 Stars
Bear with me... I've never read a Liane Moriarty book before. The only experience I have with her is the adaptations for Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers and Apples Never Fall. I'm a huge fan of the shows, so I was super excited to receive an advanced copy for her new novel and eager to dive in. And I guess I expected something far different?
ೃ⁀➷ A brief summary
While aboard a flight to Sydney- a woman starts making predictions to all of the passengers, providing their cause of death and age of death.
Some passengers are delighted to receive an old age and natural causes, others were flustered or nervously laughing as if not taking it seriously; The predictions of death at their current age and in an unlikely manner.
The flight lands, everyone gets off - the story breaks into several POV's as we follow a handful of passengers as well as 'the psychic' 'the death lady' -Cherry, after the predictions/flight.
ೃ⁀➷ My Thoughts
Whew. Clocking in at 512 pages, you would have thought this was a 1012 page book for the length of time it took me to get through. At times it really felt like it was a 1k page novel! I struggled with it from cover to cover, but I didn't want to DNF another arc.
First, I had a hard time with the amount of POV's and the way it quickly switches there wasn't always a clear indication as to who's POV you were in as the chapter started. The jumping back in time during Cherry's chapters was even worse. I honestly have no clue what the majority of that information added to the story? Nothing. I'm going to go with absolutely nothing, I skimmed through those chapters at lightning speed.
I was invested in a few of the characters and finding out what happened with them was pretty much the only driving factor in getting to the end of the book. And the thing is, while yes it all comes together in the end... I found the end disappointing, still. I was expecting some huge revelation and it just kind of fell completely flat for me.
Based on her previous work I expected more thrill, a faster pace, something that gripped me, just more. I seem to be a bit in the minority though so I do think it's worth giving a try, it's very well written- unfortunately it just didn't work for me.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Crown Publishing and Liane Moriarty for the complementary digital copy in exchange for my honest review 💙🦋
I wasn’t sure where this story was going at first and was prepared for a pretty sad ending but I really liked how everything came together at the end
Ever since I read Big Little Lies a decade ago, Liane Moriarty has been one of my favourite authors. In fact, I’ve also enjoyed her sisters’ books after I realized she came from such a talented family (check out Nicola and Jaclyn if you haven’t already). I recommend her books to everyone. What Alice Forgot and The Hypnotist’s Love Story will forever be some of my favourite books. So, when I received the email saying I had been approved for an ARC of her latest book, I nearly dropped what I was holding to rush for my kindle – it was my son though, so I couldn’t quite drop him.
I would say this one felt a little different from her others, and I will admit, it took me a while to get into it. I think I was expecting something like her other books, so it was a bit harder to adjust my perception of what the book was going to be. But like all of her other books, I just want more details – especially about one couple in particular!
On an otherwise boring domestic flight, we are introduced to a variety of characters. Some have been on holiday, others are rushing home, one young man had just come from a funeral – everyone is caught up in their own lives, when all of a sudden, an older woman starts walking down the aisle, pointing to passengers and telling them their predicted age and cause of death. Hearing you’re going to die of old age sounds lovely, but hearing self-harm within the year? Not so much. The book follows the aftermath of the predictions and the impact it has on the passengers, some who are panicked and uneasy, some who laugh it off. But when three predictions come true, news spreads and now everyone wants to track down the mysterious “Death Lady” to find a way to change their futures.
Had a little bit of trouble getting into this one but I ended up really enjoying it. I would recommend this book if you have liked her previous thrillers. It had some good twists and turns!
Liane Moriarty does it again. One of my favorite contemporary authors. I found the set-up here extremely interesting, and I loved the idea that all of these seemingly random characters could intersect again later in time. I liked the two storylines weaving in and out throughout the book. Overall, an excellent read.
This book was such a fun ride! I started it and decided to read for 10 minutes... Well, I put it down and was at 22% and had completely lost track of time!
I love the characters that Liane Moriarty builds. They are complex and relatable, and there are usually quite a few to keep up with. Any other author that puts this many main characters in a book just cant get it right like Liane does.
I loved that we slowly learned about "The Death Lady" throughout the book. Sure we could have learned everything up front, but where is the fun in that!
I expected a twist with this book since her books usually have a shock element. I wont say if there is one or what it is, but I WILL say that I enjoyed every line of this book and kept trying to turn the page for more after it ended.
I am hoping this will be a show with Nicole Kidman just like Big Little Lies and 9 Perfect Strangers!
Thank you SO much for this advanced copy!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read the newest book from Liane Moriarty. Here one moment is such an excellent novel, the pace of it made for a quick read. I was hooked instantly. What if someone told you when and how you were going to die? How would you be able to live your life?
The beginning of the books starts off exactly like that, a group of passengers on a flight are left feeling stressed, anxious and worried because a fellow passenger speaks to this. She tells them a prediction on when and how they will likely die.
We go on to follow some of their stories after they get off the flight. At first many don’t believe, and they go on living, but then things start to happen, throwing each of them into believe what if she was right?
Through the pages we learn about each of them, learn about the lady herself and left with the thought of what would you do? Life is fleeting and short, (even shorter for some) but if it all ended tomorrow would you be happy? Would you have lived your best life possible. I always love stories that while mostly fun, and obviously entertaining; they leave you curious. they become deeper than the words from fictional characters and this does exactly that. Remove the predictions, and ask yourself about your life and how you live it? liane has wrote quite a few of books I’ve really enjoyed and this is no exception.
