Thank you to the Crown Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC copy of this book. I usually really like Liane Moriarty books but this one fell flat for me - so if you're new to this author I wouldn't suggest starting with this one. The plot sounded really different from other thrillers I've read so I was immediately drawn to it. Overall premise is a mysterious woman aboard a plane shares her predictions for age of death, cause of death with each of the passengers. When a few of those predictions come true, the remaining passengers spend their days constantly worrying about what's to come and whether they will meet their fate as predicted. Sounds interesting right? This read more like an inspirational drama to me than a thriller. There was a serious lack of thrilling moments, the first few chapters being the most promising, but then it turned into more of a life story about this 'mysterious woman', Cherry and not so much about the passengers. I feel like this had so much potential to be twisty but ultimately left me bored and really underwhelmed with the ending.
This is the type of book that really makes me think. I loved the concept and the multiple perspectives, but I loved the message at the end the most. We should all be living our lives as if we are limited on time.
I am a huge Liane Moriarty fan. I was very excited to be given an ACR digital copy of “Here One Moment.” I jumped right into reading and couldn’t put it down. I knew that I was in for a wild ride and could not wait! This book did not disappoint at all. I loved meeting the characters and finding out their predictions and final outcomes. Laine Moriarty always surprises me with twists and leaves me in shock in the best way possible.
Right away I was captivated as to who is this “lady” everyone is speaking about. Who is she and what is her story? What if you’re on a flight and you were told your future? Would you take it seriously and let life come as it may because you think the person telling you this may not be quite right?
Challenge fate? Does free will exist? Are actions predetermined? Can someone change the future if they know it? What ifs, statistical probability and fate got me thinking about my own life.
We meet an airplane full of people of various backgrounds and their fate as told by a psychic. The chapters flip between point of views past and present following the passengers we met as they live their days knowing their fate. I love that we got to know the characters better and really feel their stories.
Thank you to NetGalley and Crown Publishing for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of Here One Moment. I have read a few of Liane Moriarty’s novels and although this one was long, it was my favorite of hers. It follows a collection of individuals as their lives go on following death predictions on an airplane flight. Along the journey we learn more about the one offering the predictions and how her life brought her to the current time. Although it felt long at times there were a lot of characters to follow and I feel like this was done well.
I adore Liane Moriarty! The Husband’s Secret was the first novel I read by her and I fell in love. Each one of her stories is so well written and captures so many emotions and Here One Moment is no exception- I devoured this book!
The overall story was so creative and I found myself thinking, what would I do if I knew the time and cause of my own death. Although this is a deep and heavy topic to touch on, Liane does what she’s best at and tones down the weight of it with wit, banter and laughs. But still hits home the moral of the story, living life to the fullest, regardless of the time we have left.
I love a story that stays with me long after I’ve read that final page and this book will truly be one I’ll come back to again and again.
Make sure to grab your hard copy September 10, 2024, I know I will!
Thank you NetGalley and Crown Publishing for an arc of this book. All opinions are my own.
I love Moriarty's books and while this wasn't my favorite, it was engrossing when I got farther in. It begins with a woman on a plane flight who roams the aisles giving fellow passengers the date and cause of their deaths! Pretty horrifying to be on plane when this happens...! And then we follow each of the passengers as they are fearful, disbelieving, or just flummoxed after the odd flight. We also get the backstory of Cherry, the "fortune teller" as she navigates her own odd life and we see all of the pieces come together like a crazy jigsaw puzzle!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
I really enjoyed this book although I thought it was a lot sadder than Moriarty's other books. I also thought it dragged a little in the middle but the tension was good. I can definitely see this being another best seller and I would recommend it.
This is my favorite book from Liane Moriarty in many years. I was enthralled by the premise and the ensemble cast, each character somehow even more authentic than the last -- I absolutely could not put it down. Best of all, she stuck the ending as only Liane Moriarty can, answering the big questions of the story while leaving room for just the right amount of possibility to guarantee you won't stop thinking about this one for a long time. HERE ONE MOMENT is a book you will not want to read too much about, because spoilers really will spoil it: Just trust that you're in very good hands, buckle in and enjoy the ride.
Liane Moriarty does not disappoint! With her classic domestic suspense, dark humor, and deeply human characters, she tells this story about families, grief, and a silly little plane ride that had me gasping.
Fans of Nikki Erlick’s The Measure will enjoy this multi-POV look into different types of people struggling with their mortality.
If you could know when your last day on Earth would be and how it would end, would you? What if you didn't have the choice? The lives of a group of passengers on a flight from Hobart to Sydney become inextricably linked when one elderly woman on the plane decides to tell everyone their date and cause of death.
At times this was a tough read and I would have to pause to just step away from my thoughts and anxiety the subject matter stirred up within me. Trauma, loss, grief, death-they're all very difficult, but very real subjects. Moriarty masterfully crafts a novel around what it's like to face the mortality of those we love and ourselves. I loved every character and while Here One Moment is not necessarily as thrilling as some of Moriarty's works, it is still filled with plenty of drama and suspense.
I have loved all Liane Moriaty books that I have read. This one was a little different for me. With a woman standing up on a plane and predicting each passenger’s date and cause of death, chaos ensues. The mystery of who this woman is and how her actions affect so many people is what the story is centered around. In true Moriaty fashion, characters are slowly connected as the story moves forward. While not my very favorite from this author, the book did stay in my head for quite a bit after completing it.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
What would you do if you knew your "death date"? It was an interesting premise and well thought out in how each person would handle the knowledge. A great read!
Okkkkkk, I think this may be my favourite Liane Moriarty novel!
Premise: On a packed plane, one passenger (the death lady aka Cherry) gets up and starts giving every other passenger a prediction on when and how they will die (YIKES!) It gets real for the passengers when the first few predictions happen just as she predicted.
I loved getting to know the many characters. At first I was frustrated with all of Cherry’s airtime but after a while I started to enjoy getting to know her story.
I find I’m still thinking about the characters and the decisions and changes they made following the predictions they were given. If you knew your supposed year of death would that make you live differently?
The ending was PERFECT and made me tear up.
Overall, it was a fantastic novel that will make you think about the life you’re living and how you’re living it.
Many thanks to Net Galley, Crown Publishing and Liane Moriarty for this ARC!
If you knew when and how you would die, would you live any differently? Liane Moriarty’s latest novel explores what happens after a woman predicts the cause and year of death for passengers on a short flight. We follow the story of Cherry (aka the Death Lady) and six of the passengers whose deaths she predicted. The story was well written and the characters were well developed. I enjoyed it immensely!
Thank you to Crown Publishing and NetGalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review. Keep a look out for this book when it’s published in September.

I have enjoyed Liane Moriarty's other novels so was hoping t0 love this one. It started out a little slow and picked up towards the middle. Overall a pretty good read!
Thanks to NetGallery for the ARC of this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Crown Publishing for the ARC of Here One Moment.
To be honest, I might have DNFd this book if it wasn’t an advanced reader copy from NetGalley. Not my favorite Liane Moriarty novel, I struggled to get into it and could not stop thinking about how similar it seemed in concept to The Measure (though only on the surface, I realize). There were a lot of characters, which made it a bit daunting, however I did eventually get into and became more invested in the individual story lines. In the end, it was thought provoking and I am glad I pushed through.
During this ordinary short-haul flight, an extraordinary occurrence takes place. Passengers are enlightened about the specifics of their eventual demise. While some individuals receive predictions of a distant future passing—perhaps at the remarkable age of 103—others are informed of imminent mortality by an unassuming, elderly fellow passenger. n the ensuing months, the accuracy of the predictions becomes evident as passengers begin to pass away precisely as foretold. Initially perceived as mere entertainment, the narrative quickly evolves beyond a cocktail party anecdote.
Contemplating one's mortality prompts reflection on life choices and the potential for altering one's course. Liane Moriarty's novel, "Here One Moment," skillfully navigates the realms of free will, destiny, grief, love, and the perpetual quest for control in an uncertain world. This novel is an amazing read, with its emotional depth. The diverse cast of characters adds a richness to character depth and development. Moriarty's narrative provokes introspection on life's uncertainties, skillfully balancing the weight of mortality with a comedic touch. A recommended read for its thought-provoking exploration of profound themes within an engaging storyline.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book has an interesting concept, but it took me some time to get into it for some reason. While it wasn't my favorite Moriarty book, it has her trademark striking prose and stunning observations of human nature. I know it'll be some readers' cup of tea; it just wasn't mine this time. Many thanks to the publisher for an early copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
This one was amazing. I love LM’s books, but this one was better than any of them. I loved the different characters and how they intertwined, and I loved how the books wider message about destiny rang true.
What would you do if you were on a short flight and something happened? Another passenger did something that made you question your life? This story follows the lives of several passengers aboard that flight and the one passenger that began it. Cherry was an ordinary person who may or may not have extraordinary abilities. See what happens over the years since that one short flight.
