Here One Moment is another successful book by Liane Moriarty where the meaning of life is put into perspective. This book keeps you interested and concerned for the life of every character, wondering when their death is inevitably going to come for them or if they will defeat destiny. Each storyline is wrapped up neatly and each connection between characters is a surprise. Highly recommend!

I doubt anyone reads these but I want to give my true opinion. I liked it. Not enough to keep my attention completely but enough that I enjoyed it. My biggest complaint was not titling the chapters with cherrys name or some way to clarify it was her. Yeah we figured out she was every other chapter, but it took a while to catch on and would have been easier with that. Still a good concept and I enjoyed the content.

I just love love love Liane Moriarty. I have read ALL of her books. Now I can't say I've loved them all the same, but each and every one is so unique including Here One Moment. The story started off in a way that sucks you in and then keeps you in suspense needing to know what would happen to each character. Although there are quite a few characters to remember, I did not find it hard to recall who is who once the next chapter started. I also liked how this ended. It felt real. It felt as if the author was speaking to me, imparting her wisdom. I realize this book is fiction but I would like to think that this story reflects on the author's thought process because I really resonated with her beliefs about the world. Needless to say, I really enjoyed this book and cannot say enough good things about it. I highly recommend this one.

"If you knew your future, would you try to fight fate?” It was an ordinary day and an ordinary domestic flight in Australia - until it wasn’t.

After the flight to Sydney had taken off a mysterious woman rises from her seat and begins speaking with each of her fellow passengers. Before she speaks, she points directly at each person, she then proceeds to tell each passenger how old they will be when they die and what will be the cause of their death. When the plane lands, all passengers and crew will safely depart; yet everyone aboard will be forever changed.

Throughout the book we learn about the passengers aboard, of the predictions each received, and how those predictions relate to his or her present life, age, etc. We also meet the woman “Cherry" who made these predictions, now nicknamed “The Death Lady”. There is nothing atypical about her, in fact, no one especially noticed her as she boarded. We learn about her life and her backstory as the book progresses.

The book is interesting and fun. A book of what ifs, and information on statistical possibilities (If a penny lands on heads after a toss, 3 times in a row, what is the probability of getting heads on the 4th toss?) Do these people believe the predictions they received? Should they believe them? "Your rational mind says, Nonsense! Your subconscious says, What if it’s true?” The narrators alternate between various passengers on the plane and Cherry, the Death Lady. A family saga that questions a lot of what we think we know is true. How much do we have control over our own lives? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I always enjoy Liane Moriarty books and this one does not disappoint.

I gave this book 4 stars. I have not read a Liane Moriarty book in a while and this one did not disappoint. The plot was so original and the twists kept coming!

It started out with very many characters who each had a personal story to learn. The main character told the story of each of them that you will be able to separate them. I liked reading it but it was exhausting and needed to take breaks! This will be a great book to read in a book club and will probably end up being a mini series. Recommend.

Very unique premise! Will be great for book clubs. This book will start many conversations; on death, dying, do you want to know when you will die and how; do you believe in psychics; and the list goes on!

Liane Moriarty writes quirky, intriguing books, and I have loved most of them, but I'm afraid this one was a miss for me. The beginning was captivating -- but as it went on, the story began to drag. It's too long and there are too many POV characters who are rather dull, uninteresting people. The prose, as always, is vivid and engaging, but the characters lost me.

While not as attention demanding as some of Moriarty’s other books, this one puts a whole new focus on her stories. The chapters move back and forth between an older woman and a large number of her fellow passengers on a plane. This gives a wide range of interactions, but they blend nicely through their experiences, both actual and expected. I think the popularity of Moriarty’s fiction will drive demand for this title, and readers will not put it down until they finish it.

Thank you @netgalley for the ARC of Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty. This book was different than her others because it was more drama than thriller, but it was one of my favorites. I wasn’t sure at first because is it is a bit macabre since it is about death, but the stories of the characters were deep and made the book. In her typical writing style, Moriarty peppers the story with bits of the back story of each character and their current story giving them depth. The book starts with a forgettable woman standing up on a plane and telling each passenger when and how they will die. Through the story, Moriarty brings her to life and gives her a personality and explains why she did what she did. The book makes you think about how you are living your life and what you would do differently if you knew when you would die.

I love Liane Moriaty and this book was no different. They are a captivating author. This story was well developed and kept me engaged throughout the novel. The characters were well developed and likable. I would recommend this book!

This is one of the best books I’ve read all year.
It starts with the flight-a woman begins going down aisle without warning and handing out predictions “age at death and cause of death” to handfuls of passengers until the flight crew finally can get her to stop. This obviously is very upsetting to some passengers due to her predictions. The flight lands and the passengers go home and are rattled by this strange flight but then a few of the predictions come true-is this woman actually a psychic or is it just coincidence? The aftermath of this flight and how it changes these passengers lives and relationships was classic Liane Moriarty storytelling. Each character and their predictions wove together masterfully. Even if you were the world’s biggest sceptic you could imagine if you had been in that situation doing things similar to the characters in the aftermath of the flight as well. I couldn’t put the book down, especially the last 1/3. Beautifully written, each character is complex and unique but also completely relatable. I loved it.

What would you do if you were unexpectedly presented with when and how you were going to die? Would you ignore it- obviously a hoax? Would you make changes to your life to influence fate? Would you tempt fate?

This is the dilemma faced by the passengers of Cherry’s flight. The stories of Cherry and the passengers whose lives she changed intertwine in this beautifully written and sometimes comical novel.

Do you believe in fortune tellers? What if the fortune teller doesn’t even believe, and doesn’t remember, what she’s predicted? If you’re a fan of Liane Moriarty, you’ll enjoy this book.

Liane Moriarty does it again! Imagine being told when and how you would die? This is the basic premise behind this book. Moriarty weaves a tale about several different passengers who were on that plane and how their prediction is affecting their life. She also delves into the life of the woman who made the predictions. This made for a fascinating story where I cared about each of the characters. Told in short chapters that focused on all of the different characters, I was riveted to the pages. This is a longer book but it honestly didn't feel that way. I wanted to know if the death predictions would come true and what would happen to them.

The novel is set in Australia and follows several characters of all different ages and lifestyles. One is a new mother who is obsessed with her son's prediction. Another is a 42 year old man who works too much. Another is a recently wed young woman who is navigating a new life being married and living on her own for the first time. There is also an older woman who is a grandmother but still wants to enjoy every minute of her life. Another character is a young 20 something male who has lost a very close friend and is dealing with possible feelings for his flat mate. Lastly, is the woman who made all of these predictions. Her story doesn't just talk about after the predictions but starts as a young girl. Each story is engaging and I loved seeing how everything was connected. One would think that with so many characters it would be confusing but this was not the case at all. The best part of the book however was the ending. It literally made me tear up. This is a book anyone will enjoy and I really loved not only the message but the way it made me think about life. A must read!!!!

I was glad to get a chance to read this early. The idea of the predictions was interesting and what those characters went through. However, I really wasn't too interested in the main character Cherry's life story. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

Loved this book! At the heart of this novel is the question - Would you want to know when you were going to die? And if you did know, what would you change? Can fate be thwarted?

I always enjoy this author’s writing and this book was no exception. All the characters were well written and I found myself feeling for all of them and their uncertain futures.

It has been quite a while since I’ve read a book that gripped me like this one did. I was sucked in from the moment I read the synopsis! What a morbid yet fascinating concept. I personally have spent a lot of time pondering destiny vs. free will, so this book, while fictional, definitely made me stop and think.

Given that the idea behind this book was so twisted, I was curious to see how this book was going to end. Without giving anything away, I was pleased with the ending.

I have read and loved several other books by Liane Moriarty, all of which I read on audio. I’m not sure if it’s because this was the first time I read a book by her on my Kindle, but I was fully immersed in the story, even more so than any of the previous books I’ve read by her.

Liane Moriarty is a literary genius and I can’t wait to keep chipping away at her backlist!

In “Here One Moment” by Liane Moriarty, readers are taken on an extraordinary journey and a seemingly ordinary flight from Hobart to Sydney that becomes anything but. This is a truly captivating exploration of fate and free will. A mysterious woman, unremarkable until she isn't, boards the plane and begins predicting the time and cause of death for each passenger. At first, no one takes her seriously, dismissing her as a mere psychic. But as her predictions start coming true, the passengers grapple with profound questions about fate, free will, and the struggle to maintain control in an uncertain world.

The heart of the story lies in the passengers' reactions to their predicted deaths. Some face distant futures, like age 103, and laugh it off. Others, however, find their demise imminent. Moriarty deftly explores how this knowledge impacts their choices. If you knew your future, would you try to fight fate? Would you alter your path, or would you embrace it?

The characters are vividly drawn, each with their own quirks and secrets. We meet the bride and groom, the jittery, possibly famous woman, the giant Hemsworth-esque guy who resembles an off-duty superhero, and the frazzled, gorgeous flight attendant. But it's "The Death Lady" who steals the show. No one recalls noticing her board the plane, and she was neither old nor young, rude nor polite. Yet her actions during the flight are truly remarkable.

Moriarty's writing is reminiscent of Jane Austen's wit and social commentary. She humorously skewers social mores while weaving a web of mystery. The pacing keeps readers engaged, and the suspense builds as the predictions unfold. The author's exploration of free will versus destiny is thought-provoking, leaving us pondering our own choices and the impact of knowing our fate.

“Here One Moment” is a brilliantly constructed tale that balances intrigue, grief, and love. Moriarty's prose is elegant, her characters relatable, and her storytelling masterful. As the passengers grapple with their impending deaths, we're reminded that life is fleeting, and every moment matters. In a world where certainty is elusive, Moriarty invites us to consider the power of choice. Whether you believe in fate or fight against it, this novel will leave you questioning your own journey. A must-read for fans of contemporary fiction and those who appreciate a touch of the mystical.

My first Liane Moriarty book was BIG LITTLE LIES, which was one of the best books a reader could recommend to another reader. Ever since, Moriarty's books are auto-reads for me. I'm always amazed at how she can plant significant twists in a story that change how the story is unfolding only to turn around and send it another direction again. She sets a back story that is the focus of the book, then takes the reader backwards and forwards to a point where you THINK the story is over, but is it?

HERE ONE MOMENT starts with an elderly stranger making life and death predictions for everyone on a flight to Sydney, then disappearing. As each person on the flight comes to a decision, do I believe or not, the story shares the past that led them to be on that flight. Then we see a present where each makes a decision to accept the prediction and move on or do what they can to make sure their prediction changes. The personal stories build as we learn more about the Death Lady who made the predictions. Then, as the ending moves ever closer, the twists become frequent and at the end we are still left with thar one question......would we believe or not?

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was quite different from the author's other works that I had previously read. I liked the claustrophobic atmosphere at the beginning of the story, as it unfolded with a woman predicting everyone's age of death and how they would die on a plane. The passengers couldn't escape hearing their predicted fate, as foretold by the older woman. I could feel the same sinking feeling as the passengers, imagining myself in their position. The transition between Cherry's point of view, where she shares her past, and the passengers as they disembarked from the flight was smooth and easy to follow. I was engrossed in whether they would defy the odds of their death predictions. The book conveys a strong message about how individuals should live their lives to the fullest despite the challenges and preconceived circumstances they may encounter. As someone who often ponders whether life is predestined, this book made me think more deeply about that notion. The short, engaging chapters, intriguing characters, and the mystery surrounding the woman and her predictions made for a captivating story, one that I highly recommend.

Thank you to NetGallery and to Crown Publishing for giving me a copy of the book.
