A very informative book that helps the reader work through childhood trauma. It gave a lot of good exercises and techniques, as well as just writing in an easy to understand way about trauma.

I picked this book as an advanced reader copy because I myself have complex PTSD. I am glad I did. This is truly a great help book and has a lot of great and helpful strategies and advice. I really appreciate the coping activities and used quite a few for myself. I feel this book will help a lot of people and is a good companion for those seeking therapy.

I found this book helpful and realistic on my healing journey. The exercises are in-depth and easy to follow. The entire book is informative but not in an intense scientific way, which makes it reader friendly.

AN essential book for those battling the shadows of the past. I read it slowly, with tears running on my face at times and I came out of it with the feeling that there are many things I can do in order to make my life better.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Part 1 is basically a long introduction (in a good way). Parts 2, 3 and 4 contain exercises regarding relationships, stability, attachments, grounding, and many more topics, some harder to do than others but all equally helpful.
In each exercise you’ll get an introduction, what you need to complete it and then instructions in clear, detailed steps.
This is a book that you kind of have to go back to many times as it’s full of exercises and you just can’t do them all while reading. But I learned some interesting things and tried out some helpful exercises that I will definitely be doing again. For example the bilateral stimulation.

The book’s compassionate tone and integrative approach are particularly commendable. The Limas encourages readers to set their own pace, emphasizing the importance of a body-centered approach to staying grounded and safe while releasing trauma. This makes the workbook not only effective but also respectful of the reader’s emotional and physical boundaries.

It’s important to note that while Overcoming Your Childhood Trauma is an incredibly helpful tool, it is not a replacement for actual therapy. The authors make this clear, and readers are advised to approach the exercises with care.

I recommend keeping a notebook handy for prompts and reflections. Taking the time to work through the book at a comfortable pace is key to getting the most out of it. For those ready to embark on their trauma recovery journey, this book provides the tools and guidance needed to make meaningful progress.

“When worn for too long, protective armor can feel heavy and restrictive.” This workbook, authored by two licensed therapists, presents a refreshing perspective on healing by emphasizing that revisiting traumatic experiences is not always necessary. Instead, it provides alternative strategies to support recovery and personal growth. The workbook is designed to be an adjunct to therapy, making it a valuable resource for individuals seeking additional tools for their healing journey. Its insights into how protective mechanisms can become burdensome highlight the authors' deep understanding of trauma and recovery. Overall, it’s a helpful guide for those looking to complement their therapeutic work with actionable, research-backed strategies.

Thank you Zeitgeist for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

If you want tools to help you heal from childhood trauma and attachment struggles this is your book. A great overview of the impact of childhood trauma, but more importantly many tools to help you ranging from calming your nervous system and tending to childhood wounded parts. I was impressed by the breadth of what was included, and this book should help many!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!

I started reading this book as soon as I was given the arc. I certainly have not finished it yet as it will take some time to work through the exercises, but feel that it has helped already. It made me cry for the first time as I realised why I think the way I do. Lots of times I felt as though I understood a little more in what was said. I think I could be at the beginning of a long overdue healing journey. Thank you.

A guided self-help journal with extended prompts for reflection. I could see it being useful for someone if they are also talking with a professional as they heal from trauma.

(I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)

I’m embarrassed to report that I previously purchased an expensive program which turned out to be far less comprehensive and actionable as this little gem of a book.
Overcoming Your Childhood Trauma is descriptive and thoughtful without being too wordy. It’s full of short, manageable exercises geared toward healing trauma. It asks little of your time, yet does require commitment. I’ve tried the first two exercises, and found both helpful. I do plan to purchase a hard copy and follow the entire plan- it’s that good
Thanks to NetGalley and Zeitgeist for granting access to a digital ARC in response to my request.
