Loved this book! When is the next one due? A delightful read for a cool fall evening in front of a warm fire.
I received a copy of A Summer to Surrender by Collette Perri. This historical romance book is the first book of The Tempting Tycoon Series by Collette Perri. It has been some time since I have read a historical romance book. I have been in a bit of a Bridgerton season 3 hangover, which is the reason I picked up this book. It follows the story of Phoebe Beaumont and the Earl of Westmore, Alexander Stanton.
Phoebe is an orphan from a working-class family now living with her Aunt. She has accepted that she has no place in the ton and wants to achieve her dreams and independence. She is extremely close to her cousin; they are like sisters. She wants to be a writer and move away to a small cottage alone. The first time she meets Lord Westmore is an amusing scenario, during the morning of a ball. It was something I wouldn’t have expected a meet-cute to be. This is the first time she has felt any draw to a man, and Alex is intrigued by her too.
I enjoyed reading A Summer to Surrender by Collette Perri. The characters were interesting, but Phoebe’s concerns with marriage are not properly explored. You can tell there is a reason, but it is never shown well until the end. Alex and Phoebe's romance is what kept me hooked on the story. A Summer to Surrender by Collette Perri is a historical romance that ticked almost all the boxes for me. I can't wait to read the next installment of The Tempting Tycoon series.
That was a good debut. Story was nice, not much was happening and still it kept you engaged. Unfortunately, for me there wasn’t enough of a build up for the romance, not many emotions, just flattish…
Phoebe Beaumont drew the attention of Alex, the Earl of Westmore, in a dangerous accident. Maybe it was love at first sight. Arranging a house party, Alex plans to discuss railroad business with Phoebe's cousin Catherine's husband and include Phoebe in the invitation. He has an ulterior motive. Two years ago, Phoebe sacrificed her reputation to protect her cousin thus losing her place in society. She may bring whispers and gossip to his home, but Alex doesn't care. Will they have an affair? Will she be his mistress, or maybe even his countess? How does he convince her that she deserves to be happy? Alex isn't afraid to do whatever he can to change her mind. A great start with the first book in the series.
Descriptive sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
"A Summer to Surrender" by Collette Perri is an enchanting start to The Tempting Tycoons series. The story is set against the backdrop of a luxurious summer retreat, where romance and ambition intertwine. Perri's characters are well-crafted, particularly the strong-willed heroine and the charismatic tycoon whose chemistry is undeniable. The plot is engaging, filled with just the right amount of tension and steamy moments to keep readers hooked. Although some twists are a bit predictable, the overall narrative is captivating and enjoyable. A perfect read for those looking for a blend of romance and opulence. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Phoebe isn’t your average lady. She wants to be her own person, live her own life and write romance novels. Alex, who is the Earl of Westmore, always gets what he wants. He wants the railway empire and to keep his families high status. Now they have met by chance and everything will be different. He wants her and knows he can make it happen. He offers a week of passion, no strings attached. Which is great until he falls for her. Now he has to make her his.
Collette Perri is a new author to me and I am hooked already. With fun characters, both main and behind the scenes, along with a great story line you are in for a great story and some fun adventure. Just the spice and fun I needed. I can’t wait for more.
I enjoyed this book! The writing was entertaining, well written, funny, witty, heart reckoning and steamy just in the right amount.
t’s the summer and it’s time to surrender- our dignity, our sobriety, our pants, our regency virginity #summergoals!!!
Phoebe isn’t into men because its 1835 and she wants to be a romance writer and she can’t have both a man and a career. She meats the Earl of Sternbrunchdaddyshire who is supes into her haughty spinster vibe. Before she even has the chance to brush his butt with her sleeve whilst waltzing, her dumb drunk cousin gets caught canoodling and Phoebe covers for her, thus being slut shamed and ruined forevermore. Enjoy your life of solitude, martyr.
Two years later Earl Sternbrunchdaddyshire invites Phoebe to a house party, which is real time scandalous bc that trick is a wanton whore (per society). Earl SBDS is still hot for her and makes it known, while Phoebe is all “F the F off, I want to live in a cottage and make money off all these prudes by writing regency smut for them under a very lame pseudonym”. Earl SBDS persists and Phoebe relents bc women are weak when a rich man is making them horny. Everyone wins at the end, even the prudes who continue to purchase all of Phoebe’s books bc smut is fabulous and everyone has a smutty kink just waiting to be unlocked. The end.
Smut- 2.87 stars
Romance- 4.12 stars
Story- 4.29 stars
Figuring out how to be cast out of society so I can live in a cozy cottage in rural England and read/write smut novels all day- 12.75 stars
Phoebe Beaumont is an orphan who lives with her maternal aunt, her husband and their daughter, Catherine and who she serves as a companion. She wants to write her own novels and someday live on her own. Phoebe meets Alex, the Earl of Westmore when he almost runs over her as she is trying to retrieve a dropped book from the street. They later meet again at a ball and Alex asks for a dance. Phoebe ruins herself by claiming to be in the garden with a known rake to prevent Catherine's betrothed from finding out it was her and Alex and Phoebe never have the opportunity to have their dance. Fast forward a couple of years, Alex is wanting to meet with Catherine's husband, the Duke of Clifton, to talk with him about purchasing land he needs for his railroad. He plans a house party and invites Phoebe in the hopes it will engender goodwill with the Duke and he will be more readily agree to sell him the land. Phoebe and Alex's earlier attraction to each other is rekindled and even though Alex's mother has invited eligible woman for him to meet, he is drawn to Phoebe. Phoebe knows nothing can come of their attraction to each other but Alex is destined to try to make her see things his way. Collette is a new author for me but I enjoyed Phoebe and Alex' story and I am looking forward to her next release

I received an ARC from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving a review
When Phoebe Beaumont decides to switch places with her cousin to prevent her ruin, Phoebe realises that she will be shunned by society. Not caring as she dreams of a life of independence, she knows that she will never see the man who tempted her, the compelling and mysterious Alex, the Earl of Westmore. Yet, Alex, who is ruthlessly focused on building his railway empire, finds himself compelled to invite Phoebe to his house party in order to set up a business deal with the duke. Alex also knows that he needs a countess, but one who will help maintain his family’s status—the outspoken and bewitching Phoebe is decidedly not an option. However, Alex is captivated by Phoebe, so he makes her a proposition she can’t resist—share one week of passion and make no demands of one another when it’s over. Yet, he finds that one week is not enough.
I enjoyed the path that Phoebe and Alex had to take to find their happily ever after. This is a story full of drama and angst between two headstrong characters. Chemistry abounds between them and it was so good to see that time together, made Alex rethink his whole perspective on society’s expectation of him. With so many great secondary characters to fill out this story, I am looking forward to more from this author. Amazing to think that this is a debut novel.
Another one I wished I enjoyed more than I did. I liked the plot, but the writing wasn't my cup of tea.
(I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.)
Any story that has actual conversation instead of detail in the first five pages is considered a good read to me. So this author's debut was off to a great start. And then I read the entire story in one sitting because I couldn't put it down! Phoebe is very independent, knowns what she wants and even lacking self confidence goes after it. Then Alex comes along, he's determined to always have his own way until he meets his equal. Then he must utilize his listening and compromise skills as well as take some important risks. A truly well crafted story, characters with great depth and secondary characters who will leave you wanting more. Don't miss this one, it's great!
Thank you Netgalley and Victory Editing for publishing this story.
A Summer to surrender by Collette Perri is a perfect book for historical sweet steamy romance reader.
The storyline might seem a bit slow at first but then when Phoebe can't deny her attraction to Alex, the storyline become addicting. My heart ache and breaks a little whenever Phoebe feels insecure. There's a lot of sadness, loneliness and insecurities in Phoebe which makes the book tear jerker. However, when she knows that she can't live without Alex anymore, she show herself as a strong female character by fighting for his love. The story are very happy ever after.
✅ Businessman/ Earl

✅ Angst
✅ Blackmailed
✅ High sexual tension
✅ Plenty of Spicy scenes: explicit and intense ( I really love the second library scene)
I'll definitely be waiting for the next book by Collette Perri which is about Olivia.
After having read this wonderful book, I was amazed to discover that this is a debut novel! The author can certainly write and she created a set of beautifully fleshed-out characters and I mean not only the main ones, but the side characters as well. I was especially touched by the strong love between Phoebe and her cousin and I think it was a gorgeous addition to the story. Alex is my kind of hero, strong and confident, but also capable of a deep love. The plot was simple, but entertaining, and even if there was a bunch of overused mini-tropes (like the “fallen” girl shunned by society for example), they were used in the right way to create a very interesting book.
Now I really look forward to the following books!
This book was delightful and beautifully written. Alex is the ultimate book boyfriend 💕
Phoebe and Alex's relationship was hypnotic. Their chemistry was something that pulled me in and kept me reading. The characters were so well written that it felt as if I were reading about real people 😅 I'm not sure how to explain it. I just know that the characters were not boring at all.
I truly hope to read more by Collette Perri soon.
Cute book! I thought it was a fast read. I liked the main characters Phoebe and Alex. And I liked the dialogue. Overall a good book!
I really enjoyed this story, it moved along at a really good pace and it kept me engaged right to the end. I don't really like the trope of a women's reputation making her not worthy of marriage but still sleeping with her. Thankfully Alex gives that idea up quickly and Phoebe is the one who does the rejecting. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
Phoebe and Alex have a chance meeting. He needs a countess, but not sure it is Phoebe he wants. They agree to spend one week of passion together. It is a great book!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Phoebe Beaumont dreams of a life of independence. No one could tempt her to marry—except, perhaps, the compelling and mysterious Earl of Westmore. When her reputation is ruined by a scandal, Phoebe is sure she’ll never see the earl again . . . until an invitation arrives to attend a house party at his country estate.
Alex, Lord Westmore, is ruthlessly focused on building his railway empire. He needs a countess, but one who will help maintain his family’s status—the outspoken and bewitching Phoebe is decidedly not an option. Yet he can't deny how much he wants her, and Alex always gets what he wants.
With desire threatening to consume them both, Alex makes Phoebe a proposition she can’t resist—share one week of passion and make no demands of one another when it’s over. But once he gets the beguiling beauty in his arms, she finds her way into his heart. To keep her, he’ll have to risk everything.
This book had very limited scope, with the majority of the book taking place at a single house party.
The dialect of this historical romance was off, it was set in a regency time period, yet the conversations didn’t follow suit with that era.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for my honest review.
Book one of the. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. It has everything. Wonderful characters. Good story. And a bit of steam. Excited to read the next book in the series.
