This is a beautiful book, the illustrations are amazing and the story is impeccable. It is often hard to find books about the winter season where Christmas isn't the focus (it is depicted in an illustrations, along with other winter religious holidays, but isn't the focus). I look forward to picking this book up and adding it to my son's collections of books.
If you are looking for a book that captures the magic and wonder of the winter season, please pick this up!
I received an electronic ARC from North Star Editions through NetGalley.
Beautifully illustrated tale about all that happens in winter. Kukla invites readers to explore all that happens around them during this season. The text is easy to follow so can be read aloud by young readers or explored together with family or classes.
This sweet book is simple in its presentation, but beautifully written. Reading to a class of young students, there is so much to talk about. Why is winter so quiet, why do some animals sleep, why is it a time for celebrations. I liked the illustrations and the diversity of all the characters. I will definitely use this book with planned activities as we approach the winter months.
This book has beautiful water colour images and gives the vision of entering a Dreamland. My kid would definitely love this! The words in the book were simple to understand, making it a perfect bedtime story.
The words and illustrations in this book make winter feel so warm and cozy in a deeply spiritual way. This is perfect for children and is an excellent reflection for adults.
This book was cozy and delightful from beginning to end! The art style is absolutely gorgeous, adding to the full cozy aesthetic. In The Winter demonstrates diversity in people and customs, displaying different types of celebrations in the winter, various activities, and more! This is a must-read during the winter time, and even leading up to it. Children and adults alike will find comfort and inspiration in this book. In The Winter is the true children’s hygge experience!
What a beautiful book! Author and illustrator Lauren Kukla has created a sweet story that captures the magic of the season inside and out. This is the inaugural print from the team behind mylittledigital.com, whose tagline, “Good stories make good humans” certainly encourages parents to take a look at what they have to offer.
Simple text, beautiful illustrations, and a lovely story that can be read in print or on devices, the charm of In the Winter is sure to capture the hearts of little ones ages 4 – 8 everywhere!
A whimsical story of the magic of winter in an easy to read format perfect for emerging readers and perfect as a bedtime story on a cold winters night! Beautiful illustrations fill this book and are a perfect compliment to the story. The illustrations look realistic with the blowing snow and animal tracks.
This is a beautiful book! I love the illustrations, and the muted colors complement the words. Children love playing in the snow, and this is a wonderful reminder to also appreciate the peace and calm of winter. I was pleased to see the diversity throughout the book, and that several winter holidays are depicted. Highly recommended!
Super cute picture book about winter. I absolutely love the illustrations, the use of colors and the blending. Though the text is sparse it packs a lot in with few words. . This book would be perfect for older kids to read independently, for kids to read with a parent or caregiver and for use as a classroom read aloud or to be read aloud during library story time. I will definitely be adding it to my winter story time rotation.
This is such a beautiful book!
I love warmer weather but this book reminded me how wonderful it is to have seasons. We should all enjoy the season we’re experiencing while looking for to the new weather ahead.
The children's book "In the Winter" celebrates everything beautiful about winter. Winter is a time of quiet and stillness, cool air, snowfall, creatures sleeping, gatherings, and green things resting. The illustrations will captivate children. This is a charming little book.
I loved this story.
It had the most wonderful illustrations that bring the story to life.
The book has some lovely pages that feature how animals and people prepare for the winter months including a look at those animals that go in to hibernation over the winter months. The book has a great focus on nature and the beautify that you can still find in the winter months at the darkest time of the year.
It is 5 stars from me for this one, a wonderful book - very highly recommended!
What happens when you give the ARC of a winter book filled with gorgeous illustrations and adorable characters and snow and all the cosiness to a book reviewer who lives for winters every year?
OF COURSE, she loves it and will recommend the book to anyone and everyone!
Thank you, North Star Editions/ Jolly Fish Press, for the ARC.
In the Winter outlines things people and animals do during winter along with other magical winter happenings. There are celebrations and snow and of course some cosiness. The illustrations are gorgeous and capture winter perfectly. It would be a great book for younger children learning about winter.
With winter coming to an end here in Aotearoa New Zealand it seemed appropriate to read and review In the Winter with my daughter. Her favourite things were the animals, especially the fox as they are one of her favourites.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
A beautiful book! Though it’s a little young for my students, I will definitely recommend this it to my fellow 2yo and 3yo teachers. The illustrations are gorgeous, and I love the ,different representations throughout the book. Thanks to NetGalley for this advanced copy!
The beautiful watercolour illustrations in this gentle picture book would make it a treasured gift for anyone, but especially younger children. It’s a lovely , cosy read and I particularly loved the illustrations of the Northern Lights in the winter sky. (I will definitely be mentioning this title in the festive & gift book webinar I run for UK School Library Association members in November).
This picture book is both charming and informative as it demonstrates to readers how both animals and people prepare for the winter months. The first pages highlights weather changes then moves to showing how some animals hibernate and some are still quite active during the cold months. Kukla also shows people celebrating different cultures with various traditions.
The clear and concise text combined with the gorgeous illustrations makes this a beautiful book to share with children through the course of the winter months. This would be a great addition especially for younger readers just learning about the seasons.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.
With seemingly simple text, a story that takes us to the beauty and magic of winter. A snowy winter in the wood. The best part of this book are the watercolor illustrations and little animals throughout.
A cozy little book that illustrates beautifully the various traditions of winter.
I loved that it is so inclusive and features Hannuka and Kawanza as well.
The illustrations are so charming. I would use this book to explain winter to my baby this upcoming November.
